O God, you make us glad by the yearly festival of the birth of your only Son Jesus Christ: Grant that we, who joyfully receive him as our Redeemer, may with sure confidence behold him when he comes to be our Judge; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Easter Blessings To All!

Dear Julie and Jeff and Joseph,

Jeffery was remembered at St. George's both at the Great Vigil of Easter and at an Easter service this morning. Jeffery is often in my thoughts when I am in the beauty of holiness.

I hope you are having a happy day this Easter Sunday.

An Easter Collect:

Almighty God, who through your only-begotten Son Jesus Christ overcame death and opened to us the gate of everlasting life: Grant that we, who celebrate with joy the day of the Lord's resurrection, may be raised from the death of sin by your life-giving Spirit; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

Dear Julie and Family,

I am sorry that I am a few days late in contacting you about Jeffery's birthday. For some reason I was thinking it was March 19 instead of March 16. I hope you are all doing as best as you can, so many months after the passing of your precious Iron Angel.

God bless you all.

Grace and peace,

Dear Julie,

God bless you and all mothers on Mothering Sunday. This celebration started in Europe years ago. On Mid-Lent Sunday, the apprentices were sent home to spend some time with their mothers. The master's wife would prepare a Simnel Cake for each lad to take to his mother. Those boys too far away to go home would visit their local cathedral, The Mother Church of the region, to pray for their mothers. Twice a year, this day and the third Sunday in Lent, the clergy wear rose vestments. Yesterday, a beautiful rose stole and chasuble were blessed, at St. George's, for this purpose. It brought joy to many hearts. May reading this gladden your heart, and may thoughts of your iron angel be sweet.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Gracious Father, whose blessed Son Jesus Christ came down from heaven to be the true bread which gives life to the world: Evermore give us this bread, that he may live in us, and we in him; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Christmas Prayer
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

Ye watchers and ye holy ones,

Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!
Alleluia! alleluia!

O higher than the cherubim,
more glorious than the seraphim,
lead their praises,

ye patriarchs and prophets blest,

Sharing A Summer Solstice Poem:

The heavens bespeak the glory of God.
The firmament ablaze, a text of his works.
Dawn whispers to sunset
Dark to dark the word passes; glory glory.

All in all a great silence,
no tongue's clamor-
yet the web of the world trembles
conscious, as of great winds passing.

The bridegroom's tent is raised,
a cry goes up: He comes! a radiant sun
rejoicing, presiding, his wedding day.
From end to end of the universe his progress.
No creature, no least being but catches fire from him.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Jeffery was remembered in Holy Eucharist this morning. Pentecost has always been one of our favorite holy days, as we love the red colored clothing that many people wear and the red altar clothes. Amen.

Hail this joyful day's return,
hail the Pentecostal morn,
morn when our ascended Lord
on his Church his Spirit poured! Alleluia!

Like to clove tongues of flame
on the twelve the Spirit came--
tongues, that earth may hear their call,
fire, that love may burn in all. Alleluia!

Lord, to you your people bend;
unto us your Spirit send;
blessings of this sacred day
grant us, dearest Lord, we pray. Alleluia!

You who did our forebears guide,
with their children still abide;
grant us pardon, grant us peace,

A Few Quotes On Motherhood:

The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

~Honore' de Balzac (1799-1850)

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

~Washington Irving (1783-1859)

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.

~George Washington (1732-1799)

Motherhood from the outset demands the total gift of self.

~Author Unknown

If I am Thy child, O God, it is because Thou gavest me such a mother.

~St. Augustine (354-430) speaking of his mother, St. Monnica whose feast day is May 4.

Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully.

Blessings On Easter Morning!

"Welcome, happy morning!"
age to age shall say:
hell today is vanquished,
heaven is won today!
Lo! the dead is living,
God for evermore!
Him their true Creator,
all his works adore!

Refrain:
"Welcome, happy morning!" age to age shall say.

Earth her joy confesses,
clothing her for spring,
all fresh gifts return
with her returning King:
bloom in every meadow,
leaves on every bough,
speak his sorrow ended,
hail his triumph now.

Months in due succession,
days of lengthening light,
hours and passing moments
praise thee in their flight.
Brightness of the morning,
sky and fields and sea,
Vanquisher of darkness,
bring their praise to thee.

Maker and Redeemer,
life and health of all,
thou from heaven beholding
human nature's fall,
of the Father's Godhead
true and only Son,
mankind to deliver,
manhood didst put on.

Thou, of life the Author,
death didst undergo,
tread the path of darkness,
saving strength to show;
come then, true and faithful,
now fulfill thy word,
'tis thine own third morning!
rise, O buried Lord!

Loose the souls long prisoned,
bound with Satan's chain;
all that now is fallen
raise to life again;
show thy face in brightness,
bid the nations see;
bring again our daylight:
day returns with thee!

God's Blessings To All On The First Day Of Spring!

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

I am thinking of you with encouragement and love as we bid good-bye to a long winter and welcome in the spring. I hope you are feeling well and encouraged today. Having daylight until about 7:30 each night has made me think of all of those nights, a few years ago, when we rushed out to the Little League fields. March 20
Vernal Equinox

Everywhere is the green of new growth,
The amazing sight of the renewal of the earth.
We watch the grass once again emerging from the ground.
We notice the bright green atop the dark green on the pines,
the fir, the hemlock, the spruce, the cedar.
The alder is already in leaf.
The old plum trees still blossom, leaf, and give forth fruit.
The locust is late as always.
Everywhere and always the song of birds...bees
raiding the orchard, raccoon prowling at
nightfall, the earthworm tunneling the garden,
chickens and rabbits pecking and nibbling, the
goats tugging to reach new delights...all are the
ubiquitous energies of life.

O Lord,
May we today be touched by grace, fascinated and
moved by this your creation, energized by the
power of new growth at work in your world.
May we move beyond viewing this life only through a
frame, but
touch it and be touched by it,
know it and be known by it,
love it and be loved by it.
May our bodies, our minds, and our spirits, learn a new
rhythm paced by the rhythmic pulse of the
whole created order.
May spring come to us, be in us, and recreate life in us.
May we forge a new friendship with the natural
world and discover a new affinity with beauty,
with life, and with the Cosmic Christ in whom
all things were created in heaven and on earth,
visible or invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or authorities...for
all things were created through him and for him.
In his name.
Amen.

A Christmas Affirmation
by John Killinger

I believe that Christmas is more than a time for parties and ornaments; it is a time for remembering Christ and the incarnation of God’s love in human flesh. I believe there are gifts more important than the ones under the Christmas tree, such as the things we teach our children, the way we share ourselves with friends, and the industry with which we set about reshaping the world in our time. I believe that the finest carols are often sung by the poorest voices, from hearts made warm by the wonder of the season. I believe in the angel’s message that we should not be afraid – that the Child of Bethlehem is able to overcome all anxieties and insecurities. I believe in prayer and quietness as ways of appropriating Christmas – that if I wait in silence I will experience the presence of the One born in the stable, for Jesus lives today as surely as he lived then. I believe in going away from Christmas as the Magi went – another way. I want to be different when these days are past – more centered, more thoughtful, more caring. And I believe God will help me. Amen.

Blessings To All On The First Sunday In Advent!

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Jeffery has been remembered, in Holy Eucharist, on Saturday and Sunday. May God always bless his sweet spirit.

In addition to lighting the first violet Advent candle this morning, we sang five Advent hymns, at St. George's. One was new to me. I will add the words and tune link below below.

I am thinking of you, and of all of Jeffery's friends and loved ones, during these days of hope and preparation. God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Bless'd be the God of Israel who comes to set us free
and raises up new hope for us: a branch of David's tree.
So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm
God would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.

With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall,
the oath once sworn to Abraham, from foes to save us all;
that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise,
in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.

My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way,
to tell God's people they are saved from sin's eternal sway.
Then shall God's mercy from on high shine forth and never cease
to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us.

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women, revealing the image of Christ,
R: We thank you, Lord.

For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends,

The summer yields to the autumn winds blowing
While the cool burns the leaves golden red
We harvest fields we planted once knowing
Grains of truth would soon come to a head.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

Again dreams seeming hard to remember
Alluring sleep ever taking its toll
Love redeems like the snows of December
Pure and deep as the infinite soul.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

To meadowlands of the soul's flowering
We return from the roots we have sprung
To understand love we know is empowering
Though we learn from the truth where love hung.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

Dear Julie and Family,

On the anniversary of the 9/11 attack, I am thinking of you, of Jeffery, and of those brave souls that perished in New York City, in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. Among those individuals are two somewhat connected to me. One was a classmate in high school, whose wife was also a classmate, and the other was a priest, who at one time served at Siena College, a few miles from our home. (A prayer of that priest is below.) May God bless your iron angel and hero, and may God also bless all those, who perished serving others on 9/11/01.

Happy Labor Day To All!

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Andrew and I had a busy day today, so we decided to slip into Pizza Hut for the buffet lunch. As always, it was good. Today, they seemed to have an especially appealing selection of items for making a tossed salad, but we also had some pizza, pasta, and bread sticks. I know Jeffery would have loved this spread.

I hope you have had some time to relax during this long weekend.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel.

Collect For Labor Day:

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; though Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. O God, who on the holy mount revealed to chosen witnesses your well-beloved Son, wonderfully transfigured, in raiment white and glistening: Mercifully grant that we, being delivered from the disquietude of this world, may by faith behold the King in his beauty; who with you, O Father, and you, O Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Christ upon the mountain peak
stands alone in glory blazing;
let us, if we dare to speak,
with the saints and angels praise him.
Alleluia!

Trembling at his feet we saw
Moses and Elijah speaking.
All the prophets and the Law
shout through them their joyful greeting.
Alleluia!

Swift the cloud of glory came.
God proclaiming in its thunder
Jesus as his Son by name!
Nations cry aloud in wonder!
Alleluia!

This is God's beloved Son!
Law and prophets before him;
first and last and only One,
let creation now adore him!
Alleluia!

I am sorry to not have wished you a very Happy Fourth of July Weekend. We have had a lot of severe weather here, in southern Saratoga County, for the past twelve to fourteen days, so I have not used the computer very much. I hope you are all well and enjoying a good summer.

We had hotdogs for dinner one night this week. I wonder if you have your hotdog cart in operation. If so, I am sure your customers appreciate it. (We used to get a dog from a cart, in Troy, when I took my son to the dentist, and I know there are carts operating near the museum, in Albany.)

I continue to remember your iron angel, Jeffery, in Eucharist.

Sharing A Summer Prayer:

May the openness that Summer brings be a gift to us-
To open the windows of our lives to other people,
To open our homes to share the hospitality of table and church.

Open our minds to revel in the beauty of nature-
The smell of newly mown grass
The morning dew on the rosebud
The scent of honeysuckle on the evening air
The open spaces offering relaxation and a change of pace.

Open our hearts to your love and may your Spirit rest with
each one of us.

Dear Julie,

Because May 31 fell on a Sunday this year, the church is remembering the Visitation of the Virgin Mary today. In many ways, all of us who are mothers, share in Mary's motherhood of the Holy Child. (This was made clear to me, when I placed an icon of Mary and Jesus on our mantle, and one of my boys announced, "You and me, Mom!") So, may we too, be blessed, as the collect says, in keeping God's word.

God bless you always.

Here's one of my favorite Pentecost hymns. Perhaps you can sing some of it today.

Refrain: Hail thee, festival day!
Blest day that art hallowed forever;
day wherein God from heaven,
shone on the world with his grace.

Lo! in the likeness of fire,
on them that await his appearing,
he whom the Lord foretold,
suddenly, swiftly, descends. Refrain

Forth from the Father he comes
with his sevenfold mystical dowry,
pouring on human souls
infinite riches of God. Refrain

Hark! in a hundred tongues
Christ's own, his chosen Apostles,
preach to a hundred tribes
Christ and his wonderful works. Refrain

Praise to the Spirit of life,
all praise to the Fount of our being,
light that dost lighten all,
life that in all dost abide. Refrain

God, who art giver of all
good gifts and lover of concord,
pour thy balm on our souls,
order our ways in thy peace. Refrain

God Almighty, who fillest
the heaven, the earth and the ocean,
guard us from harm without,
cleanse us from evil within. Refrain

Kindle our lips with his live bright coal
from the hands of the Seraph;
shine in our minds with thy light;
burn in our hearts with thy love. Refrain

Prayer For Our Country

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. To My Mother

~by Wendell Berry (born 1934)

I was your rebellious son,
do you remember? Sometimes
I wonder if you do remember,
so complete has your forgiveness been.

So complete has your forgiveness been
I wonder sometimes if it did not
precede my wrong, and I erred,
safe found, within your love,

prepared ahead of me, the way home,
or my bed at night, so that almost
I should forgive you, who perhaps
foresaw the worst that I might do,

and forgave before I could act,
causing me to smile now, looking back,
to see how paltry was my worst,
compared to your forgiveness of it

already given. And this, then,
is the vision of that Heaven of which
we have heard, where those who love
each other have forgiven each other,

where, for that, the leaves are green,
the light a music in the air,
and all is unentangled,
and all is undismayed.

Blessings To All On St. George's Day!

Dear Julie,

I am smiling thinking of events on this day in years past. One year, at the annual St. George's pageant, at St. George's, as the child portraying the saint, kicked the dragon's cave, a startled young Andrew began to cry. Minutes later, the same young Andrew was all smiles, when tasty treats were served.

I wonder, did Jeffery ever see this pageant? What plays and shows did Jeffery enjoy? Did he ever participate in a play? What role did he have? You know the answer to these questions. May they be a source of joyful remembrance to you today.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel.

O Sorrow Deep!

O sorrow deep! Who would not weep
with heartfelt pain and sighing!
God the Father's only Son
in the tomb is lying.

The Paschal Lamb, like Isaac's ram,
in blood was offered for us,
pouring out the life that he
might to life restore us.

Blest shall they be eternally
who ponder in their weeping
that the glorious Prince of Life
should in death be sleeping.

O Jesus blest, my help and rest,
who tears I pray thee, hear me:

~Palm Sunday Blessings To All!

Dear Sample Family,

As Andrew and I enjoyed spinach omelets on a cold Palm Sunday, I thought of my CaringBridge friends. Jeffrey will be remembered in many services this week.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

The Collect For The Sunday Of The Passion (Palm Sunday):

Almighty and everliving God, in your tender love for the human race you sent your Son our Savior Jesus Christ to take upon him our nature, and to suffer death upon the cross, giving us the example of his great humility: Mercifully grant that we may walk in the way of his suffering, and also share in his resurrection; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+++

Traditional Palm Sunday Processional Hymn:

Refrain:
All glory, laud, and honor
to thee, Redeemer, King!
to whom the lips of children
made sweet hosannas ring.

Thou art the King of Israel,
thou David's royal Son,
who in the Lord's Name comest,
the King and Blessed One. Refrain

The company of angels
are praising thee on high;
and mortal men and all things
created make reply. Refrain

The people of the Hebrews
with palms before thee went;
our praise and prayer and anthems
before thee we present. Refrain

To thee before thy passion
they sang their hymns of praise;
to thee, now high exalted,
our melody we raise. Refrain

Thou didst accept their praises;
accept the prayers we bring,
who in all good delightest,
thou good and gracious King. Refrain

Words: Theodulph of Orleans (ca. 750-821), ca. 820
Trans. John Mason Neale (1818-1866), 1854,
as altered in Hymns Ancient and Modern

Music: St. Theodulph (Valet will ich dir geben),

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

We are beginning to get a few somewhat warm days, here, in southern Saratoga County, and we certainly are happy that today will be the first, of many to come, with more daylight. I am sure things look more like spring in your area than they do here. I hope the beginning of the rebirth of the earth, makes you smile, as you think of the eternal life promised us in Holy Scripture.

God bless you both, and of course, God bless your sweet iron angel, Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

O God, whose glory it is always to have mercy: Be gracious to all who have gone astray from your ways, and bring them again with penitent hearts and steadfast faith to embrace and hold fast the unchangeable truth of your Word, Jesus Christ your Son; who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hi Julie,
Just stopping to let you know I'm thinking of you guys. Glad Epiphany To All!

Dear Julie,

On this holy day, I am thinking of you, and of your iron angel, Jeffery. We are having nasty weather, and I am not feeling my best, so I did not get out to Eucharist tonight. I am contenting myself singing some of my favorite Epiphany hymns. I will include the John Mason Neale hymn that not many people know, but which is probably my favorite. Tony Barrand and John Roberts, who study and perform traditional music, are the ones that introduced it to me. It is on a couple of their Nowell Sing We Clear albums and also on a William Pint and Felicia Dale recording.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Over the Hill and Over the Dale
by John Mason Neale

Over the hill and over the dale
Came three kings together
Caring naught for snow and hail
Cold and wind and weather
Now on Persia’s sandy plane
Now where Tigris swells with rain
They their camels tether
Now through Syrian lands they go
Now through Moab faint and slow
Now o’r Edam’s heather.

Over the hill and over the dale
Each king bears a present
Wise men go a child to hale
Monarchs seek a peasant
And in front a star proceeds
Over rocks and rivers leads
Shines with beams incessant
Therefore onward, onward still
Ford the stream and climb the hill
Love makes all things pleasant.

He is God ye go to meet
Therefore incense proffer
He is king ye go to greet
Gold is in your coffer
Also man he comes to share
Every woe that man can bear
Tempter, railer, scoffer
Therefore now against the day
In the grave when him they lay
Myrrh ye also offer.

Over the hill and over the dale,
Riding east together
Caring naught for snow and hail,
Naught for wind and weather
Warned by God from Herod’s door,
Each king turns for home once more
Hearts and footsteps lighter,
Now behind them shines the star
Which they followed from afar,
Shining ever brighter.

+++ Remember, each time we encounter the living Christ, we continue with hearts and footsteps lighter. +++

Today's Collect:

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

A Christmas Prayer
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

God bless you, dear Sample family. I am thinking of you tonight, and I am remembering your iron angel.

Dear Julie and Family,

I cannot believe how long it has been, since I have signed Jeffery's guest book. I have been here, a few times, but I had little, or nothing, to say, each time.

We were without power last week, due to an ice storm, for three days. I am catching up on things I could not do then.

Today was another blustery December day. We have fresh snow, but, due to the wind, I did not see, or hear, any children playing outside, after school.

We marked the Feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle, today. (It is normally celebrated on December 21, and is often the day of winter ordinations, but it was transferred, due to Sunday, which is always a Feast of Our Lord.) I will leave the collect and a hymn below.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel, Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Almighty and everliving God, who strengthened your apostle Thomas With sure and certain faith in your Son's resurrection: Grant us so perfectly and without doubt to believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, that our faith may never be found wanting in your sight; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

By all your saints still striving, for all your saints at rest,
Your holy Name, O Jesus. for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious, that they might wear the crown
And ever shine in splendor reflected from your throne.

All praise, O Lord, for Thomas whose short-lived doubtings prove
Your perfect two-fold nature, the depth of your true love.
To all who live with questions a steadfast faith afford;
And grant us grace to know you, made flesh, yet God and Lord.

Then let us praise the Father and worship God the Son
And sing to God the Spirit, eternal Three in One,
Till all the ransomed number who stand before the throne
Ascribe all power and glory and praise to God alone.

Words: Horatio Bolton Nelson (1823-1913); ver. Hymnal, 1982
Music: King's Lynn, English melody; adapt. Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
or Nyland, Finnish folk melody; adapt. David Evans (1874-1948)

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

I am thinking of you, and of all of Jeffery's other loved ones, on this great feast day. God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Now thank we all our God,
with heart and hands and voices,
who wondrous things hath done,
in whom his world rejoices;
who from our mother's arms
hath blessed us on our way
with countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God
through all our life be near us,
with ever-joyful hearts
and blessèd peace to cheer us;
and keep us in his grace,
and guide us when perplexed,
and free us from all ills
in this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God
the Father now be given,
the Son, and Holy Ghost,
supreme in highest heaven,
the one eternal God,
whom earth and heaven adore;
for thus it was, is now,
and shall be evermore.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

I was planning to be at the polls at this time, but instead, a minor household emergency has brought me and my plumber together, at this hour. (I will go over to vote later.) I hope you are well and having a good day.

God bless you, God bless sweet Jeffery, and God bless America.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Someone sent me this prayer thought. I do not know the author's name.

Whether your political color is red or blue, I ask your prayers for justice and non-violence at the polls today. Give thanks that this election has drawn more Americans to participate than at any time in our history; please pray that everyone who wants to vote will be able to do so, and that those votes will be counted as they were cast. Pray that long lines may not lead to short tempers, that fairness will guide the process across our land, and that justice may roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

I am wondering whether you will be taking the hotdog cart out this weekend. Up here, it is a great, clear period, after a very rainy spring and summer. I think there will be hungry crowds at parks and fairs.

Jeffery will be remembered in Holy Eucharist, as he is week by week. May God bless his sweet spirit.

Of this I am certain, that no one has ever died who was not destined to die some time. Now the end of life puts the longest life on a par with the shortest... And of what consequence is it what kind of death puts an end to life, since he who has died once is not forced to go through the same ordeal a second time? They, then, who are destined to die, need not be careful to inquire what death they are to die, but into what place death will usher them.

Dear Julie and Jeff,

Today's saint is Bartholomew. One of my connections with this name is that when they were young, my boys gave me a lovely, soft, white teddy bear that I named Thomas Bartholomew. We had such a good time with that bear! Dear Julie,

On a day when many think of mothers, in honor of St. Mary, I am thinking of you, Jeffery, and all of the mothers in your family. May God bless you all.

I apologize for not signing Jeffery's guest book in over a month. It has been a long, busy, and, at times, discouraging summer here in southern Saratoga County. I am just not able to get to the books as often as I would like. Jeffery was remembered, in Holy Eucharist, last Saturday, when I served as lay reader, at St. George's, and he is remembered there, and at our house, often.

Below is the collect of the day and one of my favorite hymns. The second verse speaks of the mother of our Lord, who is a role model and friend to all Christian moms everywhere.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

A Collect For The Feast Of St. Mary:

O God, who have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of your incarnate Son: Grant that we, who have been redeemed by his blood, may share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom; through your Son Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

+++++++

Ye watchers and ye holy ones,
bright seraphs, cherubim, and thrones,
raise the glad strain,
Alleluia!
Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers,
virtues, archangels, angels' choirs,
Refrain:
Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!
Alleluia! alleluia!

O higher than the cherubim,
more glorious than the seraphim,
lead their praises,
Alleluia!
Thou bearer of the eternal Word,
most gracious, magnify the Lord, Refrain

Respond, ye souls in endless rest,
ye patriarchs and prophets blest,
Alleluia,
alleluia!
Ye holy twelve, ye martyrs strong,
all saints triumphant, raise the song, Refrain

O friends, in gladness let us sing,
supernal anthems echoing,
Alleluia,
alleluia!
To God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Spirit, Three in One, Refrain

Amen.

+++++++

Ye watchers and ye holy ones,
bright seraphs, cherubim, and thrones,
raise the glad strain,
Alleluia!
Cry out, dominions, princedoms, powers,
virtues, archangels, angels' choirs,
Refrain:
Alleluia! alleluia! alleluia!
Alleluia! alleluia!

O higher than the cherubim,
more glorious than the seraphim,
lead their praises,
Alleluia!
Thou bearer of the eternal Word,
most gracious, magnify the Lord, Refrain

Respond, ye souls in endless rest,
ye patriarchs and prophets blest,
Alleluia,
alleluia!
Ye holy twelve, ye martyrs strong,
all saints triumphant, raise the song, Refrain

O friends, in gladness let us sing,
supernal anthems echoing,
Alleluia,
alleluia!
To God the Father, God the Son,
and God the Spirit, Three in One, Refrain

Words: Athelstan Riley (1858-1945), 1906

Music: Lasst uns erfreuen (Geistliche Catholische Kirchengeäng, Cologne, 1623)

Hi Julie. Just wanted to stop in and let you know I was thinking about you and Jeffery. I don't get a chance to stop in as much as I'd like, but wanted you to know that I think of you often and that I always end up with a smile on my face when I think of Jeffery. Such a beautiful, warm, loving son. How lucky we are that God chose us to be the parents of such beautiful children. Take care and know that you're thought of often.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

How the time from Friday to Friday passes! Once again, I am praying for you and remembering Jeffery on the day when many pray William Reed Huntington's prayer. I hope all is well with you and with all of Jeffery's loved ones.

God bless you always.

A Collect For Fridays:

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but
first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he
was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way
of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and
peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.

Dear Julie,

I just want to let you know that I am thinking of you and of your iron angel, Jeffery. I know yesterday must have been bittersweet for Jeff, and for all of you.

We had a hectic weather day today, in upstate New York. Colonie, only about a fifteen minute drive away, had golf ball size hail. Other areas, within an hour of here, had nickel and penny size hail. The Poughkeepsie area had a tornado. We had heavy hard rain. I just saw pictures of the large hail stones, and the thought went through my head, "I wonder what Jeffery would have gotten into, if he had had access to those big ice balls?" May that thought bring a smile to your face.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Thinking Of Jeffery:

Almighty God, we entrust all who are dear to us to your never-failing care and love, for this life and the life to come, knowing that you are doing for them better things than we can desire or pray for, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Happy Flag Day, Sample Family!

Dear Julie,

I guess almost everyone loves a parade. One of the largest Flag Day Parades in our nation is held each June, in nearby Troy, NY, the home of Uncle Sam Wilson, meat packer during the War of 1812. We have missed it this year, as it was held earlier in the week, but our thoughts are toward our country this morning.

Our thoughts are also toward your family. Jeffery will be remembered in the celebration of the Holy Eucharist, at St. George's.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel.

Julie thanks for all your kind and psoitive words on Dave's page. So happy Joe is going school! Dave will get his license before I sign him out...if anything, I can get someone to write a letter, but right now it appears that you can't get a license if you drop out, but if you get it prior to signing out you're okay, the car insurance may not be though..but I feel with Dave I can get letters written explaining his medical history and leave it at that. I know you 'get it'....time is more important than anything for David so I want him to live his dream. You are always on my mind and in my prayers. Jeffery too. Hugs and Love,

Greetings To All On The Feast Of Pentecost!

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Jeffery is in my thoughts today, as we celebrate the birthday of the church. It is not often that this great feast of the Holy Spirit also falls on Mother's Day. Here in the Capital District, of New York, is it also the Albany Tulip Fest, in honor of our Dutch heritage. What a busy day for folks involved in all!

The birds are singing here today, and the sky is bright and pretty. Some people will grill today, and others will go out for brunch. Perhaps you will use your smoker. Whatever you do, I wish Julie a Happy Mother's Day.

Even when I do not sign, I think of your beautiful family. God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

The Collect:

O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Dear Sample Family,

The sun is shining in Clifton Park today, and I am hoping you are having a good day, too. Probably the weather is good enough where you are, to have the hotdog cart out.

I would like to ask you, and all of Jeffery's friends, to pray for Samuel, a ten and a half year old boy, from Clifton Park, who is a patient at Children's Hospital, in Philadelphia. Sam's grandmother, Gert, is a storyteller, a good friend of mine, and the founder of our faith based story circle. I have been praying for Samuel, since he was in the womb, as testing revealed that he had half a heart. Sam, who had surgery on his heart, the day he was born, is in Philadelphia for testing and to have a pacemaker replaced. Thank you.

Today's saint is Catherine of Sienna, a reformer and spiritual teacher, who died on this date in 1380. Our Daughters of the King, at St. George's, is St. Catherine of Sienna Chapter, in her honor. I will leave the collect beneath my signature.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel, Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Colette

Everlasting God, who so kindled the flame of holy love in the Heart of blessed Catherine of Siena, as she meditated on the passion of your Son our Savior, that she devoted her life to the poor and the sick, and to the peace and unity of the Church: Grant that we also may share in the mystery of Christ's death, and rejoice in the revelation of His Glory, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

I thought of Jeffery several times today, including while having ice cream, at Friendly's, with Andrew. He had a peanut butter topping on vanilla/peanut butter ice cream, and I had blueberry topping on black raspberry. Of course, since Andrew likes blueberries, he leaned over and took a few spoons of my treat, which was more than OK with me. I wonder if Jeffery would have liked either of these sundaes, or if perhaps a banana split, pie a la mode, or a hot fudge on chocolate, would have been more to his liking. I certainly wish Jeffery could be here, to go out for ice cream, pizza, or some other treat, with his folks, and to help with the family hotdog cart.

I hope you have had a good weekend. God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect (One Of My Favorites):

O God, you have prepared for those who love you such good things as surpass our understanding: Pour into our hearts such love towards you, that we, loving you in all things and above all things, may obtain your promises, which exceed all that we can desire; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Sample Family,

Today is St. Mark's Day, and Father Bill is away, so there was not a Eucharist, at St. George's. It seems funny to me to not be attending a Red Letter Day service, but I will be remembering Jeffery in the beauty of holiness, over the weekend.

I hope you are well and anticipating a good weekend.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Almighty God, by the hand of Mark the evangelist you have given to your Church the Gospel of Jesus Christ the Son of God: We thank you for this witness, and pray that we may be firmly grounded in its truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Since I could not receive today, I have been singing. Perhaps you will join me in this hymn that mentions St. Mark.

By all your saints still striving,
for all your saints at rest,
your holy Name, O Jesus
for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious,
that we might wear the crown
and ever shine in splendor
reflected from your throne.

For Mark, O Lord we praise you,
the weak by grace made strong:
his witness in his Gospel
becomes victorious song.
May we, in all our weakness,
receive your power divine,
and all, as faithful branches
grow strong in you, the Vine.

Then let us praise the Father
and worship God the Son
and sing to God the Spirit,
eternal Three in One,
till all the ransomed number
who stand before the throne
ascribe all power and glory
and praise to God alone.

Almighty Father, we praise your name for those who, following in the footsteps of your beloved Son, have preached the good news of salvation to the despised and rejected of the earth, not counting the cost to themselves; and we pray that your love for us may enkindle in our hearts an answering love for you and our neighbors, and that your grace may give us wisdom to see the opportunities you give us to serve you, and the courage to grasp them; that in all things we may be made conformable unto the image of the same your Son our Savior Jesus Christ, who now lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and ever. Dear Sample Family,

Sunday afternoon, Andrew decided to treat Kristen and I to dinner at the Red Lobster, which is one of my favorite places. We had a lovely time, although we all had a difficult time choosing from the ample menu. I was even able to bring home a couple of their excellent Cheddar Bay Biscuits. We have had a lot of cold, rainy weather, so the trip to the restaurant was a little break for all of us.

As today's outing brought me some cheer, I hope you, Jeff, and Joseph, are having some special occasions.

Just stopping by to let you all know I'm thionking of you. Keeping you all in my prayers and thoughts. Julie, thanks for the emails and keeping in touch. Keeping Jeffery in my thoughts and wondering what he's up to. You have yourself a true warrior and I know you are very proud. I cannot imagine how each day is for each of you. I only know how to pray. So I pray that each of you, on your darkest days, has the other to hold you up. To be there when it's just so hard it hurts to breathe. Today's Collect:

Do not let your Church close its eyes, O Lord, to the plight of the poor and neglected, the homeless and the destitute, the old and the sick, the lonely and those who have no one to care for them. Give us the vision and compassion with which you so richly endowed your servant William Augustus Muhlenberg, that we may labor tirelessly to heal those who are broken in body or spirit, and to turn their sorrow into joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I am thinking of sweet Jeffery today, and I have paused, here, at my keyboard, to pray for you. A few minutes ago, I received a "Cancer Candle," which I sent along in honor of family members and friends, who have died from this terrible disease. Dear Julie,

I have been here, at least three times, since you posted your entry on March 24. You are a hard act to follow.

I want to assure you that I pray for your family, and for several other CaringBridge families, on a regular basis. I have not walked in your shoes, but I do care, and I miss your iron angel, Jeffery, very much. How good it is to know that Jeffery, and many others, are now in a place where there is no sighing or saddess, but where there is peace, joy, abundance, and eternal life.

God bless you, Jeff, Joseph, and of course, sweet Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

I am Resurrection and I am life says the Lord.
Whoever has faith in me shall have life,
even thought he die.
And everyone who has life,
and has committed himself to me in faith,
shall not die forever.

As for me, I know that my Redeemer lives
and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
After my waking, he will raise me up;
and in my body I shall see God.
I myself shall see, and my eyes behold him
who is my friend and not a stranger.

For none of us has life in himself,
and none becomes his own master when he dies.
For if we have life, we are alive in the lord,
and if we die, we die in the Lord.
So, then, whether we live or die,
we are the Lord's possession.

Happy from now on
are those who die in the Lord!
So it is, says the Spirit,
for they rest from their labors.

Hello all, Jeffery's mom here. I'm writing on the sign in sheet cause I don't want to move the journal from the front page, I'd like to leave that there for anyone it may help.

It's been a year since Jeffery went Home but it feels like its only been about
5 weeks. We are all still very raw from his illness. The pain that has set in
from not being able to touch him has left us very weak, no energy to speak of
and lonely to say the least. For some reason we are able to still wake in the
morning and move though the day.

Joseph has proven to be a very special person in this world. He is
spiritually strong and sound. He can say something to us to make us understand
what we're doing, just like that. Seems he's becoming an adult while we're
kinda reserved or unsure, don't misunderstand in most situations he is still so
young and doing "young people crap", I don't know how to explain it but he has
been able to step into our shoes and help direct us. I've been reading a lot of
books and most believe when the loss of a loved one occurs the family circle is
broken and the remaining family unit steps in and tries to physically fill the
loss in the circle. We have seen that to be true. Everyone in the family has
picked up something from Jeffery, even down to his messy, messy room! I won't
speak for everyone else but for me, I've picked up his ability to laugh at the
simplest of humor (loudly). After a few times, I was like, what was that? I
realized that I was laughing for Jeffery, keeping what
we would have heard, here with us. It makes perfect sense when you think about
it.

A few times during each day I can't seem to believe that he's gone, this
overwhelming panic grabs me and freaks me out. I'm able to somehow move through
it and go on. I'm trying to work through the grief, a better word would be
hell, or anything worse you can think of. I stop and cry on demand now because
holding it in can cause severe trauma to the heart and soul! I'd say we are all
doing as best as we can at this point. Jeffery is with us when we need him, he
still is comforting us even if we can't touch his beautiful body. When I cry,
my minds eye can see him standing beside me holding me, saying it's ok. Then I
feel a calm and move on. I know it's my baby comforting me, just as he always
had the ability to do. My Iron Angel!

We will survive these days in our lives no matter how dark they can be. I pray
that NO more children will die, that NO other family has to go through this
horrible, horrible pain, that God will come and get us, soon!

Someone just
recently asked me is life worth it? This saddness, is not worth this life, this
price is to high to pay. I can't believe that God intended for us to feel this
much pain. Maybe we grow, the books keep talking about growth. Who cares about
growing, I just want my baby back! I don't care about the person I'm to become
from this. I was perfectly happy with the person I was before Jeffery was taken
from us! I know, I know, maybe 100rds would benefit from the person I'm to be.
BUT, I'm not God, I would not willingly give my son for the sake of all others!
I'm human, stingy that way. Go figure.............

Peace and Prayers to you all and thank you for your continues prayers for us, as
you can see, we need them still!
4js*4ever!

Hi, Jeffery.

It's been a year. Do you remember what a year means down here? It can be a long time to someone who is in physical or emotional pain. It's hard for us to understand the timelessness of Heaven - eternity without pain, fear, or sadness. Without even having to wait for the next exciting thing to happen or take time out to rest.

This is not at all how
We thought it was supposed to be
We had so many plans for you
We had so many dreams
And now you've gone away
And left us with the memories of your smile
And nothing we can say
And nothing we can do
Can take away the pain
The pain of losing you, but ...

We can cry with hope
We can say goodbye with hope
'Cause we know our goodbye is not the end, oh no
And we can grieve with hope
'Cause we believe with hope
(There's a place by God's grace)
There's a place where we'll see your face again
We'll see your face again

And never have I known
Anything so hard to understand
And never have I questioned more
The wisdom of God's plan
But through the cloud of tears
I see the Father's smile and say well done
And I imagine you
Where you wanted most to be
Seeing all your dreams come true
'Cause now you're home
And now you're free, and ...

We have this hope as an anchor
'Cause we believe that everything
God promised us is true, so ...

So we can cry with hope
And say goodbye with hope

We wait with hope
And we ache with hope
We hold on with hope
We let go with hope

O Great Spirit, whose breath gives life to the world and whose voice is heard in soft breeze, we need your strength and wisdom. May we walk in beauty. May our eyes ever behold the red and purple sunset. Make us wise so that we may understand what you have taught us. Help us learn the lessons you have hidden in every leaf and rock. Make us always ready to come to you with clean hands and straight eyes, so when life fades, as the fading sunset, our spirits may come to you without shame.

Dear Sample Family,

As we draw near to the end of the Christmas season, let us remember that Christmas is really an everyday feast.

Work of Christmas Begins
By Howard Thurman (adapted)

"When the song of the angels is stilled,
when the star in the sky is gone,
when the kings and princes are home,
when the shepherds are back with the flocks,
then the work of Christmas begins:
to find the lost,
to heal those broken in spirit,
to feed the hungry,
to release the oppressed,
to rebuild the nations,
to bring peace among all peoples,
to make a little music with the heart…
And to radiate the Light of Christ,
every day, in every way, in all that we do and in all that we say.
Then the work of Christmas begins.
The message of the Feast of Epiphany announces to all people, everywhere:
Rise up in splendor…your light has come,
The Glory of the Lord shines upon you!

Let the work of Christmas begin, and let it begin with you."

My thoughts and prayers are with you all, and I am remembering your iron angel, Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

During this upcoming year tune my heart
to seek Your truth,
to listen for Your voice,
to learn Your ways and incorporate them in my life,
to speak Your love,
to remain faithful regardless of setbacks
one day at a time, one person at a time, one heart at a time.

Like your servant Francis, make me an instrument of Your peace
in and to this broken world. Amen.

Dear Julie and Jeff,

Jeffery was remembered, in Holy Eucharist, this morning, on the Feast of St. Stephen. Perhaps you have sung Good King Wenceslas with your boys, when they were little. The king and his page, in the song, were celebrating this feast.

Good King Wenceslas looked out, on the Feast of Stephen,
When the snow lay round about, deep and crisp and even;
Brightly shone the moon that night, tho' the frost was cruel,
When a poor man came in sight, gath'ring winter fuel.

"Hither, page, and stand by me, if thou know'st it, telling,
Yonder peasant, who is he? Where and what his dwelling?"
"Sire, he lives a good league hence, underneath the mountain;
Right against the forest fence, by Saint Agnes' fountain."

"Bring me flesh, and bring me wine, bring me pine logs hither:
Thou and I will see him dine, when we bear them thither."
Page and monarch, forth they went, forth they went together;
Through the rude wind's wild lament and the bitter weather.

"Sire, the night is darker now, and the winds blow stronger;
Fails my heart, I know not how, I can go no longer."
"Mark my footsteps, my good page. Treadst thou in them boldly:
Thou shalt find the winter's rage freeze thy blood less coldly."

In his master's steps he trod, where the snow lay dinted;
Heat was in the very sod which the saint had printed.
Therefore, Christian men, be sure, wealth or rank possessing,
Ye who now will bless the poor, shall yourselves find blessing.

~John Mason Neale (1818-1866)

God bless you always, and of course, God bless Jeffery.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

We give you thanks, O Lord of glory, for the example of the first martyr Stephen, who looked up to heaven and prayed for his persecutors to your Son Jesus Christ, who stands at your right hand: where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Jeffery was remembered, in Holy Eucharist, last night and this morning. I have thought of Jeffery many times both days, and I have thought of you, and of all of Jeffery's other loved ones. May it be well with you all on this Christmas night.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your iron angel, Jeffery.

A Christmas Prayer

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus' sake. Amen.

Early this morning, I spotted a bright red cardinal, in the tree, near my bathroom window. I had to smile, watching him. He made me think of Jeffery and of other CaringBridge young adults. Merry Christmas to all!

Julie, Jeff, and Joseph, as I was at church, earlier in the evening, I thought of all of the families I know, who are in bereavement this year. You were there, in my prayers. I wish things could be different for all, especially those like you, who have lost a young gentleman, and those who have lost children. Hang in there, as the reason Jesus came into the world is to give us all hope, in this life, and eternal life, in the next. Jeffery is safe in his tender love and keeping.

God bless you always.

The call of Advent is a call to live wide awake so that we can be alert to God working in us and in our world to bring about the Kingdom. Awareness is another way of talking about being awake. Work today to be aware of the needs of people around you, because God calls us through those very needs. Each time we answer to them, the Kingdom comes nearer.

Lord God, make us so reflect your perfect love; that, with your Deacon Nicholas Ferrar and his household, we may rule ourselves according to your Word, and serve you with our whole heart; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend. Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today, and creates a vision for tomorrow.

~Melody Beattie

Dear Sample Family,

I just want to say, "Happy Thanksgiving!" to all of you. May you enjoy everything about this holiday weekend, with grateful hearts, despite this being your first Thanksgiving without Jeffery.

God bless you always.

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Over the past few days, Jeffery has been remembered in several celebrations of the Eucharist. May God always bless him.

I hope your are having a good Veteran's Day Weekend. May God bless you all, and may God bless all those in your extended family who are serving, or who have served, in our military.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Almighty God, we comment to your gracious care and keeping all the men and women of our armed forces at home and abroad. Dear Sample Family,

Jeffery was remembered again today in Holy Eucharist. Our bishop was with us for Confirmation, and we had some marvelous All Saints music. Things like that make the heart glad. I hope you are finding things that make your hearts glad. Jeffery would want that, that is for sure.

God bless you always.

he Gap by Michael Crenlinsten

The gap between those who have lost children and those who have not, is profoundly difficult to bridge. No one, whose children are well and intact can be expected to understand what parents who have lost children have absorbed and what they bear. Our children come to us through every blade of grass, every crack in the sidewalk, every bowl of breakfast cereal. We seek contact with their atoms, their hairbrush, their toothbrush, their clothing. We reach for what was integrally woven into the fabric of our lives, now torn and shredded.

A black hole has been blown through our souls and, indeed, it often does not allow the light to escape. It is a difficult place. To enter there is to be cut deeply, and torn anew each time we go there, by the jagged edges of our loss. Yet we return, again and again, for that is where our children now reside. This will be so for years to come and it will change us profoundly. At some point in the distant future, the edges of that hole will have tempered and softened but the empty space will remain - a life sentence.

Our friends will change through this. There is no avoiding it. We grieve for our children, in part, through talking about them and our feelings in having lost them. Some go there with us, others cannot and through their denial - a further measure, however unwittingly, is added to an already heavy burden. Assuming that we may be feeling "better" in six months is simply "to not get it."

The excruciating and isolating reality that bereaved parents feel is hermetically sealed from the nature of any other human experience. Thus it is a trap – those, whose compassion and insight we need most, are those for whom we abhor the experience that would allow them that sensitivity and capacity. And yet, somehow there are those, each in their own fashion, who have found a way to reach us and stay, to our comfort. They have understood, again each in their own way, that our children remain our children through our memory of them. Their memory is sustained through speaking about them and our feelings about their death. Deny this and you deny their life. Deny their life and you no longer have a place in ours.

We recognize that we have moved to an emotional place where it is often very difficult to reach us. Our attempts to be normal are painful and the day to day carries a silent, screaming anguish that accompanies us; sometimes from moment to moment. Were we to give it its own voice we fear we would become truly unreachable, and so we remain "strong" for a host of reasons, even as the strength saps our energy and drains our will. Were we to act out our true feelings we would be impossible to be with. We resent having to act normal, yet we dare not do otherwise. People who understand this dynamic are our gold standard. Working our way through this over the years will change us as does every experience - and extreme experience changes one extremely. We know we will have recovered when, as we have read, it is no longer so painful to be normal. We do not know who we will be at that point or who will still be with us.

We have read that the gap is so difficult that, often, bereaved parents must attempt to reach out to friends and relatives or risk losing them. This is our attempt. For those untarnished by such events, who wish to know in some way what they, thankfully, do not know, read this. It may provide a window that is helpful for both sides of the gap.

Your Friend,
Kathy

Dear Julie, Jeff, and Joseph,

Today is the tenth anniversary of the passing of Mother Teresa. Recent information in the news, taken from her letters, indicates that she struggled for years, as many do, with spiritual dryness. Please let the knowledge that the great ones of faith struggle with problems, doubts, and dryness, help you, as you struggle with missing Jeffery.

I have just paused, here, at my keyboard, to pray for all of you, and to remember sweet Jeffery.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Colette

I don't know what God is doing. He knows.  We do not understand, but of one thing I'm sure,  He doesn't make a mistake.

Happy Labor Day, Sample Family!

I have just had an email from my cousin, Jennifer, who has two little boys. Liam, a new age five, called it "Pregnancy Day," so they have had a discussion of the various meanings of "labor" this morning, before heading out to the parade.

I hope, that whatever plans you have for today, you have a positive day, full of good memories of Jeffery and of the hope of heaven.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Collect For Labor Day:

Almighty God, you have so linked our lives one with another that all we do affects, for good or ill, all other lives: So guide us in the work we do, that we may do it not for self alone, but for the common good; and, as we seek a proper return for our own labor, make us mindful of the rightful aspirations of other workers, and arouse our concern for those who are out of work; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

I continue to think of your Iron Angel, beneath the Jesus and the Children stained glass window.

Dear Julie,

I continue to think of Jeffery, and of several other young men, beneath the Jesus and the Children window, in our church. May God bless their sweet spirits.

Today's saint is Augustine of Hippo, a great scholar, writer, and teacher, in the church. An important thing for folks, like us, to remember about Augustine, is his faithful mother, Monnica, who prayed for him, for many years, just as you prayed for Jeffery and for Joseph, and as I pray for my sons.

I will leave the collect, beneath my signature.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Collect For Feast Of St. Augustine Of Hippo (August 28):

O Lord God, the light of the minds that know you, the Life of the souls that love you, and the strength of the hearts that serve you: Help us, following the example of your servant Augustine of Hippo, so to know you that we may truly love you, and so to love you that we may fully serve you, whom to serve is perfect freedom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

I am a friend of Wendy. Her angels Noelle and Nicholas have a page. I have seen your name on the Babers guestbook for years and wanted to say how sorry I am about your son, Jeffrey. I hope you continue to have more days that are better days than days you feel unable to go on. I am so sorry you lost your son. My son was born in '87, but my youngest is the same age as Noelle would be now, 11. I have prayed for the families on this site, and wanted you to know that you and your family were in my prayers, too. God bless all of you during this time of intense grief.

Julie: What happened? I thought Jeffery was doing much better. I am completely shocked; to say the least. I hate cancer and what it does to our children. We can cope... but the effects on our children... it's just not fair to them. I have to say that even five years out I am stil bewildered. It's not what you would ever expect to happen to your own family. Things like this only happen to "someone else." Yeah right. Good Lord, I know that you are crying your eyes out and you will for a long time to come. I still cry myself to sleep many nights.

I used to love to look at Jeffrey's drawings. He was such a brilliant artist. Now, he's dazzling our kids with his masterpieces. Nothing anyone says to you will ease your heart and mind. You have your memories of him and they will last your for your lifetime. As for the famous saying, "time heals all wounds;" I'm not sure I agree with that, but through time, life has become more tolerable.

Please know that I am praying for your peace and comfort. Jeffery has his and now, may you feel the Lord's loving arms wrapped ever so tightly around your entire family.

We're hanging in there. School is keeping me very busy; I'll update sometime over the summer.

I continue to keep you all in my thoughts and prayers. I know how terribly you miss Jeffery, and certainly understand that some moments are so incredibly overwhelming. This Sunday it will be 3 years since Maddie died, and I miss her more every day. I have found that the support and love that continues to come our way from so many really does help enormously.
With love,

Dear Sample Family,

I just want you to know that I remembered Jeffery at Holy Eucharist, yesterday. We have a beautiful window, in the nave, of St. George's, of Jesus and the Children, and that is one place where I remember children, teens, and young adults, like Jeffery, who have passed on, all too soon.

I know you must feel sadness behind your laughter, when joking around, and at parties, without Jeffery. It is hard not having a family member present. You remain in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

I had to laugh when I saw the 4 some picture on teh staircase, Jeffery with the holes in his shirt for the thumbs to go in, whoever thought of that!? My girls do it to their sweatshirts too.... A Prayer Attributed To St. Francis:

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

Jeffery's Viking funeral will be on the second anniversary of Mamie's death.

After two years I still cry, but not nearly as much as before. It wasn't long after she went to live with Jesus that I found I could laugh again, but not nearly as much as now. With each passing week you will find that the memories that now bring mostly tears will bring more and more smiles instead.

I hope you had a happy Easter, realizing that Christ went through death on Earth so that we can share life again in Heaven.

Dear Julie,

Thank you for updating Jeffery's guest book. I have never heard bereavement likened to arthritis, but it is an apt metaphor. May God bless you, Jeff, Joseph, and all of Jeffery's loved ones, as you grieve the passing of your Iron Angel.

We had a cold Easter here, but we experienced beauty and fellowship at church and at table. I hope your faith inspired and heartened you all.

Good luck with the hotdog cart tonight. It would be far too cool here to generate much interest tonight, but the thoughts of it make me want to prepare some dogs here at the house. I have not had lunch, so now I know what to make.

God bless you all. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Blessings On Easter Morning!

"Welcome, happy morning!"
age to age shall say:
hell today is vanquished,
heaven is won today!
Lo! the dead is living,
God for evermore!
Him their true Creator,
all his works adore!

Refrain:
"Welcome, happy morning!" age to age shall say.

Earth her joy confesses,
clothing her for spring,
all fresh gifts return
with her returning King:
bloom in every meadow,
leaves on every bough,
speak his sorrow ended,
hail his triumph now.

Months in due succession,
days of lengthening light,
hours and passing moments
praise thee in their flight.
Brightness of the morning,
sky and fields and sea,
Vanquisher of darkness,
bring their praise to thee.

Maker and Redeemer,
life and health of all,
thou from heaven beholding
human nature's fall,
of the Father's Godhead
true and only Son,
mankind to deliver,
manhood didst put on.

Thou, of life the Author,
death didst undergo,
tread the path of darkness,
saving strength to show;
come then, true and faithful,
now fulfill thy word,
'tis thine own third morning!
rise, O buried Lord!

Loose the souls long prisoned,
bound with Satan's chain;
all that now is fallen
raise to life again;
show thy face in brightness,
bid the nations see;
bring again our daylight:
day returns with thee!

Hi to my wonderful Sample family members, How could we not all love the boy with the best hugs in the world!! I miss him, I miss seeing and talking to him and to you. The picture on the stairs is great, everyone is happy, he just took the first step on the stairway to Heaven. He was brave and courageous. I am glad you had those final weeks together for fellowship, pain, crying, laughing and preparing for God's plan. You are an amazing family. People often ask me how I do this job as Oncology Nurse and I have to say that meeting, knowing, caring, hurting, laughing, crying, smiling and loving my patients and their families through it all is a blessing that not all nurses receive. This is a gift, Jeffery is a gift that will live on forever in our hearts. He is artistically painting the sky as we speak. May you cling to one another, realize that each day in our lives is a blessing and smile at the stars where your Jeffery shines. God bless you. Love always, Susan

We heard about Jeffery's passing and wanted to add our warmest, deepest thoughts and prayers for all of you. Jeffery fought long and hard, as did you all. This ordeal in some crazy way, brought all of you together in an unbreakable bond. Jeffery certainly knew he was loved. And was he ever loved!!! Dear Julie, Jeff, Joe, and All,

The previous writer has said some important things. I will remember Jeffery, when I attend Stations of the Cross next Wednesday. I often find a strong connection to the losses I have faced in my parenthood, when I consider the losses Mary faced. Perhaps reading the Scriptures about the passion of Christ, or walking the Stations, will aid and comfort you, now, or at some time in the future.

Jeffery is alive and at peace, in the nearer presence of Jesus, and for that, we are all thankful. You will see your Iron Angel again, and when you do, "all shall be well."

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

There are no words to lessen the pain and emptiness that lies in your hearts but there will be peace to follow. This is the most difficult time in your lives. Our Lord and Savior tells us that death is but a transition into the spiritual world. Death is not the end but the beginning of eternity. Jeffery will send you all signs letting you know that he is okay. I am sure that he bargained with God for ways to bring comfort to his earthly family. You all did a terrific job at raising such a wonderful child and I know God is smiling. He knows that your hearts are being ripped from your chests. I look at how Jeffery has inspired so many of us and how God chose you to be his parents and his brother. There is no understanding why our children were chosen to go HOME before us and as unbareable as the pain is at times, we continue to exist. I often think of the movie "The Passion of Christ". Mary watched her son, Jesus Christ be tortured and put to death on the Cross. Watching that scene, I relived every second of Colby's illness and his amazing strength to keep on living even though his physical body was broken. I ponder at the ability and courage it took for him to comfort us, his family during his last days on earth. It is okay to be angry and confused. God created us with such emotions. It doesn't mean that your faith is shaken. You will feel Jeffrey everywhere!!!! He is a part of you just as you all are a part of him. May God wrap His loving arms around each of you and carry you when you can't find the strength to lift your head and may the wind in circle you and dry your tears as though Jeffrey is wrapping his arms around you.
Our loss has become HEAVENs gain.

and that at the last he will stand upon the earth.
After my waking, he will raise me up;
and in my body I shall see God.

Dear Julie,
I wanted to let you and your family know how truly amazing you are! You took such excellent care of Jeffery and made his life so fulfilling. I will miss our late night and early morning talks trying to make medical decisions to help you and Jeffery through this long process. But I am so thankful for being allowed to be part of Jeffery's life during such an important time. He was truly an amazing young man. I will miss my big hugs from him, but have comfort in knowing he is finally at peace. Wishing you all God's peace and comfort through your grieving during this difficult time.

Dear Julie and Family,

I receive a daily thought from the Nouwen Society. Today's thought, from the writings of the late Henri Nouwen, spoke to me of Jeffery. Perhaps it will say something of value to you, as you prepare for Jeffery's funeral.

You are in my thoughts and prayers.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

The Infinite Value of Life

Some people live long lives, some die very young. Is a long life better than a short life? What truly counts is not the length of our lives but their quality. Jesus was in his early thirties when he was killed. Thérése de Lisieux was in her twenties when she died. Anne Frank was a teenager when she lost her life. But their short lives continue to bear fruit long after their deaths.

A long life is a blessing when it is well lived and leads to gratitude, wisdom, and sanctity. But some people can live truly full lives even when their years are few. As we see so many young people die of cancer and AIDS let us do everything possible to show our friends that, though their lives may be short, they are of infinite value.

~Henri Nouwen (1932-1996)

Jeffery knew he was loved and that his life mattered to God and to his family. Some people never realize that, so Jeffery was blessed.

Jeffery's life bore fruit, while he was on earth, and it will continue to bear fruit in the days and years to come.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Grant, O Lord, to all who are bereaved, the spirit of faith and courage, that they may have strength to meet the days to come with steadfastness and patience; not sorrowing as those without hope, but in thankful remembrance of your great goodness, and in joyful expectation of eternal life with those they love. And this we ask in the Name of Jesus Christ our Savior. Amen.

Dearest Julie,
My heart is breaking for all of you. I too have never understood why there is so much suffering during this process..as told to me by a few parents who have been through this journey. And yes, my faith too is strong, and I do believe things happen for a reason we will not understand until we also go to Heaven..but as a parent, there is nothing more difficult then to see your child suffer. I pray for peace and comfort for Jeffery. He is a warrior. I pray for God's strength to be with you and surround you with love. I just wish we lived closer to one another.
Thanks for your kind words and great ideas. Dave had been home schooled in the beginning of his illness, but missed all his friends so much and he loves sociaization and at this point, just wants to finish up and leave this middle school behind and start new at the high school. For him, he doesn't want to leave his band of friends. It's difficult because I'd pull him out in a millisecond and have him on homebound programs...we both know what this disease does and it's hard to see a child going through all this and having to deal with adults that are just unprofessional and without compassion.

Julie if you ever need to talk my # is on the site. I do not want to disturb you as I know you need to spend all those valuable moments with Jeffery and the family. Sending you love

Dear Julie,

Each of us, as mothers, sometimes sees our children suffer physically, emotionally, socially, and/or spiritually. It is never easy. Most of us would rather be the one to suffer than to see it in a dear, much loved child. I am so sorry that you and your family are suffering this week, as Jeffery is dying. I am also glad that hospice is there with you, to provide nurses, to help care for Jeffery, and to walk with you. One of my best friends, Lynne, was a hospice social worker for many years. She is also an ordained clergy. She has a deep spiritual life, and she always prayed for and with her clients. Hospice also has chaplains. Make use of them, as you are able. You do love God. That is obvious, and God loves you, Jeffery, and all of your family. Suffering, like birth, is a mystery. Right now, we do not know why, but perhaps the quote I will add beneath my signature, will be of some help. I am also going to add a collect I learned, many years ago, when my mother was terminally ill, which has helped me through many rough places.

God bless you. You, Jeffery, Jeff, Joey, and the rest of your family, are in my thoughts and prayers.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

O God, I do not understand why any suffering is necessary, much less the suffering of the innocent as Jesus was. Give me the consolation of faith to know that, could your Kingdom of Love grow without suffering, you would have done it that way. Amen.

James E. Adams, in Lord, Open My Heart, Page 110

Amen.

Dear Julie,

Thank you for taking the time to update Jeffery's journal. Like the previous writer, I have tremendous respect for all of you. I also agree that letting hospice come in is a good thing. The hospice people I have known are wonderful people, and I am sure it is a relief to have them carrying the physical and medical aspects of Jeffery's care. May God bless them, and may God bless all of you, especially Jeffery.

Beneath my signature, I will add a prayer which may be helpful during the night.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Be present, O merciful God,
and protect us through the silent hours
of the night, that we who are wearied
by the changes and chances of this
fleeting world
may repose upon your eternal
changelessness,
through the everlasting Christ our Lord. Amen.

Julie, I've sat here typing and then retyping a message to leave for you and your family, and everything I type just doesn't seem to come out quite right and really express what I want to say. I've followed Jeffery's caringbridge site for so long that I really feel as though I actually know you and my heart is just breaking. As a mom of a child whose battled a life-threatening disease, it's easy for me to say that I have an idea of what you must be feeling, but I know the reality must be a million times worse. I can't even imagine and I am so sorry for all your family and your beautiful son are enduring. From all of your journal entries, especially the ones from these past few days, I can tell that Jeffery is an extremely lucky young man to have such a wonderful woman for his mother, and I'm sure he knows that too. I know this is a kids poem but I LOVE it!

A giraffe looks in my window
At the same time everyday,
He just appears with silly ears,
When I turn on the light to play.

I tell him the things I do at two
While he munches and crunches the leaves,
That are so very tasty too,
From the tippy tops of the trees.

One night he didn’t look so good,
His eyes were filled with pain.
I asked him, "What is the problem, the food?"
He said, "I must explain!"

"My knees are hurting pretty bad
And my long neck is so sore.
I really do like our talks,
But I can't take much more!
If you do a favor for me,
I know how my pain will be free.

CAN YOU MOVE UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR!!!

My Dear Family,
I love you all so much it hurts... I have tried to write several times and just couldn't find the words.. I still can't.. but I will do my best to express how I feel...(my heart is breaking)... I believe the dying process is percieved differently by ALL...
1. The PAIN,SUFFERING,DISBELIEF,ANGER,SADDNESS,HURT,GRIEF,HEART ACHE,etc... just consumes you and you aren't sure how to do or take care of anything.. everyday you just ask God to carry you through and thank him for doing so...Wishing all the time that you could change what is happening...knowing you have no control of the situation...can't stop anything from happening...wondering where your FAITH is... second guessing everything..how in the world are we going to go on???
2. The FAITH,JOY,HAPPINESS,STRENGTH,LOVE,HOPE,MERCY,etc.. that God gives us is how we handle this...PAINFULLY BEAUTIFUL process.. we call "passing away"...giving everything to God. Trusting in Him for COMFORT, COMPASSION,STRENGTH,SERENITY, etc...
I pray Father that you "FREE" Jeffery's MIND,BODY AND SOUL!!! KEEP YOUR LOVING ARMS AROUND HIM AND FLY!!!!
FLY HOME JEFFERY!!!! We will FOREVER BE LOVING YOU!!!! YOUR IN MY HEART ALWAYS!!! FOREVER LOVING YOU!! AUNT JANET

Dear Sample Family,

I was here last night and thinking of you all, but I did not sign the guest book. I am here, praying for you all again, this morning. May God bless you with peace.

Beneath my signature, I will add a quotation I found earlier this morning. Perhaps it will be of some help.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette~

As a physician, I have seen men, after all other therapy has failed, lifted out of disease and melancholy by the serene effort of prayer. It is the only power in the world that seems to overcome the so-called "laws of nature"; the occasions on which prayer has dramatically done this have been termed "miracles". But a constant, quieter miracle takes place hourly in the hearts of men and women who have discovered that prayer supplies them with a steady flow of sustaining power in their daily lives.

Stopped by to "see" you all, and it was nice to read the update- I totally understand your ability to find humor in the story you shared. Good for Jeffery, letting everyone know what he wanted and helping to bring laughter to you all.

Praying for peace and comfort for you all.

Dear Julie,

Thank you for updating Jeffery's journal. I know writing today's entry must have been difficult to do. Please know that I am praying for Jeffery, and for all of you, right now, here at my computer. I am sure those who know you, in the flesh, are praying even harder and more frequently.

There is an interesting book of prayers for those seriously ill and for their caretakers. The title is Be Not Afraid: I Am With You. It is by Mary Brian Durkin, who has served as a chaplain in two Chicago hospitals. Beneath my signature, I will add the last part of the prayer from pages 76-77.

God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Strengthened by our belief that life is eternal
and true love is everlasting, we ask you. God:
Come with your angels and saints
and welcome into resurrected life
one whom we love, and who, when able,
served you so well.
Give eternal rest to our dear one,
and the joy that surpasses all understanding.
We ask this in Jesus' name. Amen.

Dear Jeff, Julie, Jeffery, Joey, and Aunt Tonya,

The prayer I am sharing tonight, is one I learned many years ago, when a family member was very ill with cancer. I learned it on a weekend retreat, led by David S. Ball, then Dean of the Cathedral of All Saints, in Albany, NY. He later became our bishop and now serves again at the cathedral, in his retirement. I hope it will be of help to you.

God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

A Collect For Fridays:

Almighty God, whose most dear Son went not up to joy but
first he suffered pain, and entered not into glory before he
was crucified: Mercifully grant that we, walking in the way
of the cross, may find it none other than the way of life and
peace; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord. Amen.

Love is such an inspiring thing to see, and it is flowing in bright torrents in your home. I am sure that Jeffery is experiencing the greatest love possible from those at home with him, and from those in Heaven, and from those of us who are praying that God will work a miracle and heal him completely and permanently. May God bless you Jeffery, and heal you, and keep you with your loving family for many, many more years to come. There are so few angelic people on Earth...Lord please don't take Jeffery from us.

Hi my family, Jennifer wrote a poem that I want to share with you.I hope it brings you the joy it has brought to me.

A LIGHT IN THE NIGHT
by Jennifer Weaver

As I was sleeping soundly in my bed,
Suddenly I saw a bright light over my head.
I sat up in bed to see what was wrong,
Then an angel started singing a pretty song.

He sang:"God's light is coming to you,
No matter what happens he will always stay true."
I sat up straighter and started to pray.
I asked God:"What would happen today?"

Just then the light came even brighter,
I pulled the covers around me tighter.
It was the middle of the night you see,
and I had no idea what would happen to me.

Then God came to me and said:
"Please ,beloved get up out of bed.
For you have received your sight,
Come out of the dark, look into the light."

I was so excited to see,
the faces of all my family and ME!!
God had given me a miracle!
Everything looked so beautiful!

My mom had an angel face,
Now I felt like I was drifting out to space.
From that night on while I pray,
I will always remember what happened that day.

Thankyou God, I love you
love, Jennifer

The hardest part in life, I think has to be, watching our children suffer.Being Jennifers mom and watching her suffer and knowing & loving Jeffery since he was just a tiny little guy and now watching him struggle & suffer has really taught me that we truly have to conform to the will of God, no matter how difficult that may be.It is comforting to know that this is not the end for Jeffery, just the beginning of a new and joyous journey. One he will not be alone on,Jesus will be with him and he will know peace he has never known before. No more suffering or trials or sadness. As Jennifer says, only light mom and peace and joy. This past year, Jennifer has lost five very special friends, as they have gone home to paradise. She loves Jeffery very much and it saddens her that he will be away from everyone. But as she reminded me,in his new home in heaven, he can" rock out" ( her words) with Elvis & Jesus & the angels. We love you Jeff, Julie,Jeffery & Joey.
We are here if you need us for ANYTHING.
Peace be with you.

Dear Sample Family and Aunt Tonya,

I continue to think of you all. May the peace of Christ be with you always.

Beneath my signature, I will place something you may be able to share with Jeffery during one of his alert periods. I shared it with another family that lost their teenage son to cancer recently. Perhaps it will help Jeffery, or one of the others, in the family. (I know you are not a Catholic family, and we are not Roman either, but I think it speaks a universal truth of Christianity that is helpful to many.)

God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

One day, I was sitting with Rodleigh, the leader of the troupe, in his caravan, talking about flying. He said, "As a flyer, I must have complete trust in my catcher, The public might think that I am the greatest star of the trapeze, but the real star is Joe, my catcher. He has to be there for me with split-second precision and grab me out of the air as I come to him in the long jump."

"How does it work?" I asked.

"The secret," Rodleigh said, "is that the flyer does nothing and the catcher does everything: when I fly to Joe, I have simply to stretch out my arms and hands and wait for him to catch me and pull me safely over the apron behind the catchbar."

"You do nothing!" I said, surprised.

"Nothing," Rodleigh repeated. "A flyer must fly, and a catcher must catch, and the flyer must trust, with outstretched arms, that his catcher will be there for him."

When Rodleigh said this with so much conviction, the words of Jesus flashed through my mind: "Father into your hands I commend my Spirit." Dying is trusting in the catcher. To care for the dying is to say, "Don't be afraid. Remember that you are the beloved child of God. He will be there when you make your long jump. Don't try to grab him; he will grab you. Just stretch out your arms and hands and trust, trust, trust."

Dear Sample Family and Aunt Tonya,

I have not visited Jeffery's site in many months. (I have cut back a little in computer use.) I was sorry to learn, on Monday, on Cheyenne Fiveash's site, that Jeffery has become progessively ill. Certainly we all hoped that Jeffery would be one of those lucky ones to beat cancer. What an awful disease it is!

Let Jeffery know that many people are proud of him for his courage, strength, and faith. My prayers are with him, and with you all, this morning.

God bless you.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

This Psalm, in this particular wording, has helped me through and beyond a lot of difficult things. May its words bring you whatever it is you most need today.

5. O LORD, YOU are my portion and my cup; *
it is you who uphold my lot.

6. My boundaries enclose a pleasant land; *
indeed, I have a goodly heritage.

7. I will bless the LORD who gives me counsel; *
my heart teaches me, night after night.

8. I have set the LORD always before me; *
because he is at my right hand I shall not fall.

9. My heart, therefore, is glad, and my spirit rejoices; *
my body also shall rest in hope.

10. For you will not abandon me to the grave, *
nor let your holy one see the Pit.

11. You will show me the path of life; *
in your presence there is fullness of joy,
and in your right hand are pleasures for evermore.

My eyes fill with tears
When I hear him say he has no fear
What strength this child has shown
So much more than those of us who are grown
It doesn't seem fair to take him away
We've only had him a short while and want him to stay
I know I can not be selfish for the Lord must need him now
I know we have to let him go, I just don't know how
Every precious hug and every precious smile will forever be etched in my heart
And I will hold on to every memory if we HAVE to be apart
So if you go to Heaven before I do
Save a place for me close to you

I have tried sending you an e mail to your new e mail address but it keeps coming back undeliverable..... I am praying and believing that somehow in these next weeks you will feel Jesus' arms and peace in your home. No words can tell how hard I know this is , but yet I pray that the thin veil between this world in the next is shown to you so that you understand how close we really are to those who now live on the other side with Jesus. Much love to you all and many prayers for daily miracles that help you all get through such a time as this....... even writing that i feel stupid , what words can anyone say to you all if they have not experienced this? I love you all though, please know that
