Praying hard Julie. Dave's MRI came back..mixed yesterday. He refuses any and all treatment. He just finished up his protocol making it a grand total of 3.4 years of chemo...plus the radiation. Waiting to hear back from Duke...not sure what the spots are at this point...keeping both our boys in prayer...keep me updated. God Bless,

So glad you are coming back to Caringbridge!!!! I missed you! I truly enjoy hearing about you the 4/J's. You've remained in my thoughts and prayers always! I often think of closing Ryan's page down now that he is off chemo. He doesn't get many visitors now, that's kind of sad isn't it? It seemed while he was sick and on treatment more people came by. But then I figured what if one person comes by and happens to need some inspiration??? Well, my Ryan sure has a story of inspiration, so I will keep writing! Hi Julie! I was so glad to get your email and read an update! I spoke of Jeffery on January 7th when David had another follow-up at Dr. Chaparra's. He remembers Jeffery of course and I guess he's amazed at both our boys....clear Mri's....is the best thing I could ever hear. I will continue to keep you all in my prayers! You are such an amazing woman. You put your heart in your updates. Thank you so much for your ministry. Your sharing, venting, and asking really helps more people than you'll ever know. We look forward to hearing from you via e-mail. Your family is never far from our prayers... I really mean that.

I, too, had to stop visiting CB so much. I was spending many of my days on-line literally in tears. Now, I only visit a few sites, and some I can't go on because for some strange reason sites with music locks my computer up. At one point I thought about shutting down Noelle and Nicholas' site completely. Then, after some nudging from some of my CB Family, I realized that our journey is far from over. I can still let our family and friends know how we are doing without haveing to call or visti. Sorry if that sounds weird, but we are still healing and are sometimes we just don't want to be on the phone or visiting with anyone. I felt like I shared the medical updates, fears, anxieties, love, and death of our children now it is time to share our life as we walk the journey of grief.

I also feel like I can't/don't share all that I would like to. I try to update as often as I can and I know that someone out there is still praying. Take Care Julie. I am SO EXCITED about the MRI. (WAY TO GO JEFFERY!!)

DONT GO!!!!! Just kidding...what better reason to wrap up a carinbridge site than that you are realizing all is well and you don't have enough to talk about! Glad to hear things are brightening up for everyone...and so glad Jeffery had such a wonderful birthday! You guys are always in my thoughts and prayers-hang in there!! And thanks for the suggestion of the appetite booster Julie, I had not heard of it. And he starts his next round of chemo Oct 7th....so I need to get him eating more than a bite here and 1/2 a milkshake....all day. But I know he does not want to go to the hospital and be fed through a tube, so I think he's trying to put some real effort into eating, he's not nauseated at all...just does not want to eat...Thanks for your prayers and your dear sister who has visited a couple times..God Bless

Hey Girl!! My talk about statistics was supposed to make you feel better..not worse!! I could tell you were "getting funky" when we spoke and I was trying to tell you that jeffery is beating the odds and is going to continue to beat the odds. Statistics are just a bunch of numbers! They can not EVER say 100% fatal...there are always survivors..jeffery will be one of them! Jeffery IS one of them. Also, I remind everyone .... whenever you read anything about cancer and statistics you HAVE to immediately say "my, how much better would these statistics have been if the people had been on Protocel?" Because they would have been a whole heck of alot better. Julie you are awesome and your family is awesome do not let that old brain tumor that jeffery HAD take away your spirit.

I suffer from this and it is nasty, lots of abdominal pain...check out the symptoms and see if there is any connection to Jeffrey's symptoms; is he getting enough fibre in his diet? I take one dose a day of Metamucil and it helps quite a bit:) Hope you get to the bottom of it soon,

Hi Julie,
I feel like every time I read about Jeffery, I'm getting a sort-of pre-view for David. David loves school and gets distraught if he misses it. He just finished his first round of the 5 days on 23 days off protocol. It's suppose to continue through May...and he was exhausted last week. Missed 2 days of school and was spiking a 101.8 fever, which if either of my other 2 were, it wouldn'r be so nerve wracking...anyway, Gouda's office (he was not in that day) wanted to send him to St. Mary's for 48 hours just for observation...but his counts were real good and his cultures came back negative to infection...David gave the doctor his opinion, which was no hospital, just outpatient, since his counts were good...so we went to emergency room and hooked him up to IV antibiotics, sent us home with an RX for augmenten...he seems okay now..slept Friday from 6:30 pm to 7:30am the next day. Any advice you can give me? Does temedor cause learning problems..has Jeffery experienced fevers as a side effect? I'm going nuts trying to guess...may I call you? Prayers to Jeffery and Joseph.

My name is Kathy and my 10 year old son David was diagnosed with a glioblastoma multiform stageIV brain cancer 5/6/03.
He was operated on at Palms West Hosp. on 5/13. We started the same protocol you've been on, June 5th...today is the beginning of his last week of radiation and he will get that 4 week break from temador as well. I heard about you from Dr. Gowda's office! I'am so happy that all is well with you! So far all David's scan's are clean too. You sound like you have such a wonderful family and that really helps too! Hey 4J's:

Faze you out, no way. Never in a million years. The Caringbridge Family has become part of ours that will remain a part of us until the end of our days. And even then we will watch over ALL of the Caringbridge kids when we are no longer here. We plan to do an update very soon. The truth is that though some things have happened, not much has changed. I guess it feels good to say, for the first time in two years, that we are pretty boring right now... still sad and depressed but boring.

I do hope that all of you are well. I read about a newly diagnosed little girl with a brain tumor... boy, that was hard to hear. I know how they are feeling right about now.

I did dream about my sweet Noelle the other night. Ok, since I haven't done an official update, I'll tell you the jist of it. I was at a cemetery... where Noelle and Nicholas were buried. (Not their real cemetery, but it was one with headstones and not markers). I had my hand on Noelle's headstone and began to cry. Noelle suddenly appeared over my left shoulder. I could see her bright smile and beaming eyes. She was just beautiful. I asked Noelle if she was in her old body or her sick body. Noelle told me that she was in her old body and began to laugh. Julie, I can still remember the sound of her precious voice and sweet giggle. Then, out of nowhere Noelle said, "Mommy, you're not fat you're just fluffy!" Yep, that's my Noelle. She may have been in her old body but she had the comment of the Decadron Noelle. I must admit that when I woke up, I was quite disappointed that the dream was not more profound. Then the Lord reminded me that He did let me encounter Noelle the way she was. I am so thankful for that encounter. Of course, I am human and greedy... so I want more.

Ok, more to come on my next update... surely by this weekend. (Still waiting on the cemetery... nothing really to report there either). Thanks for continuing to check on us... it really means to world to us.... truly!!!! I sometimes wonder what I would do without wonderful people like you encouraging us to go on. THANK YOU!!!

Hey Julie & family. It's Julie, Tonya's best friend. I was on and was reading your page to my daughter Diana. We also went to Jaylan's web page. It's so sad but I hope his family can find comfort in knowing that he's well now. Julie & Jeffery, I haven't experinced the daily pain of cancer or the pain of watching a loved one go through it. However, I have experienced almost losing a child. My oldest son, now 16, at 3 yrs. old got a rare blood disiese that kills within a few hours. By the time the doctor's figured out what was wrong with him he was crashing. Vitals were 30 over 32. The rolled in the cardiac machine and ran us out. They told us there was no hope. Our son was dying. By the grace of God,which the doctor's agreeded, he came out of it. There is hope! There is always hope! Keep up your faith and know you are ALL in our prayers! And if Joseph &/or Jeffery needs some good, christain kids to hang with, I have four! Diana 17, Michael 16, Joshua almost 13 & Matthew almost 9. I'd like for our kids to meet. Hi 4J's!!!! Sorry I haven't signed in for a while, but please know that I check in all the time. The kids have been out of school for almost two weeks now and we have been so busy. Of course, doing all normal and happy things!

Your entry really got to me today. By the end of Ryan's 3 year treatment for his Leukemia, our youngest child, Bret had to start counseling with a psychiatrist. He was just 2 years old when Ryan was diagnosed and our oldest child, Miranda was 7. We immediately took her to a counselor at Children's Hospital, but not Bret because he had just turned 2 and he was so little. After 3 years of treatment, we really noticed Bret (then 5 years old) really acting out. He was acting up at preschool, home, etc. I went straight to my pediatrician and she said it was definitely from Ryan's diagnosis. It was so hard to hear. It was like getting kicked in the teeth by Leukemia once again. It's just not fair. Everyone in the family suffers in so many ways. It's hard enough to deal with a child having cancer, but then you have to watch everything said and done so that the siblings don't get hurt or feel left out. Anyway, thankfully we got him help immediately. Going to this doctor was the best thing we ever did. Bret enjoyed it just being 'his time' with mom and dad also. He went for about 6 months and it helped him tremendously. He is now a normal 6 1/2 year old and adjusting to our new life without chemo, hospital visits and getting to be with his best buddy in the world without worrying about him being sick. Life is good......

I hope and pray things go well for all of you. I will be praying hard for Jeffrey to be healed and have no tumor growth ever again! Take care and God bless all of you!

So glad that everything is going well. Jeffery, way to go. I am so excited for you. I hope you know that SOOOO MANY people continue to pray for you.

Thank you for continuing to send words of encouragement our way. I realize that I have not done an update in a while. We are pretty much doing the same... just doing. We go through life these days wearing the "smile mask" for Nathan's sake. Deep down inside we are just as crushed as we were 14 months ago when our little Nicholas left us.

God is good to us. He manages to sustain us and give us grace as we need it. Even when we are not as obedient as we should be, God continues to hold us and love on us... but it still hurts.

Thank you again for the push to keep on keeping on. (I'll do an update this week)!

It's nice to know that you all have settled in now in the big city of Jacksonville. I like your scary description of it, Linda, for there have been times in years past that we've driven through at night and it really does feel that way. But, as you say, you are living in the burbs plus God has placed you there, removing the fear. Praise God! Jeffrey, I'm glad to hear that you are doing so well health wise. We're off to North Carolina next week for 2 weeks. The surgery Karis needs is only done by 40 doctors in the U.S., and the one in Florida doesn't accept our insurance. So, traveling we will go! God has us going there for a reason and we are blessed that family live with 2 1/2 hours in different directions. We will do some visiting while there between procedures and that will also help defer hotel expenses. Her actual surgery is on the 14th and we are naturally praying for success, looking for complete healing on her hip so she can regain the 60% of strength she lost 2 years ago from her injury. It all depends on the size of the tear as well as if there are any arthritic conditions that have since developed.

God bless! Enjoy the cooler weather in the fall, more of a taste of seasons and I'm sure you'll have that southern accent down pat soon, if you haven't already!

Hi there!! It was so awesome to finally meet you both. Glad Jeffery is doing so well.
There have been a number of butterflies flying around over at the cemetery. My Emily loves to chase them. Emily helps me water all the flowers (fake ones too). Zenida usually always has bright flowers on her grave. Emily is very attracked to them. The cemetery finally put Seth's marker back but they have not put Zenida's back (they took hers the same day as Seth). I guess they only return it if someone complains......and we are doing alot of it these days.
Anyhow thank you again for the visit.I always enjoy seeing the families from O2/Dr G's office.
Thank you too for the train cufflinks. They are so cute. I think of all of you when I see them. I wished we had more time to spend chatting so we could have gotten to know each other better.

Please tell Jeffery that Zenyda is buried very close to Seth, only a few yards away. If you have not been there before it over looks a very pretty little garden.If he wants to leave her a note, or flowers or what ever we would be happy to do it on his behalf. (you can email me a note to put on her grave site from Jeffery and so on). We are out there at least once a week and now that I will be back to work I will probably go more often. My mom watches Emily and they are not too far from Queen of Peace Cemetery.Another idea if he wants to write her a note is to write it on a helium balloon and release it, that is what we did on Valentines Day for Seth.

Hope you get some good needed sleep soon. I know when Scott snores I can't sleep......it is not that often.
I can't believe how tall Jeffery is. I come from a short family. My Seth was always small for his age. He was 25 pounds at 5 1/2 years old. He still wore 3Ts in clothes. I could not imagine having a child 6 foot 2. WOW!
I will keep checking in to see what becomes of surgery.

I work in the building behind CMS (where Dr Gowda's office is), the Early Intervention Program, although I have not been there in months. I am a social worker and work with families with children born with disabilities.

Hi Julie & Jeffery, My name is Mrs. Diane and I recieved your website from Ruthie Bunklemann. I work at Dunkin Donuts and she use to bring her son Seth in all the time for his pink frosted donut. Seth and I became very close( not because of his cancer, because i met him before he got it).I know this is a very rough time for you but you always have to think positive. Seth made me realize just how much is taken for granted each and everyday. He has taught me to deal with my problems in a different way. The strength that i got from Seth is amazing and I continue to have that strength to this day. YOU gave me alot today by your guestbook entry. I was having a tough day and then I read your entry..knowing I helped someone else gave me a boost I needed.
You said a nurse gave you the entry(?) ....well it has to be one those great nurses on the O2 floor at St Mary's. They are the best! God Bless them all.
I have put Jeffery's site on my favorites so I will check on you daily.
Not sure if there is anything I can do to help but let me know if I can. Hope you know the wonderful ladies in the Pediatric Oncology Support Team Office (next door to Dr Gowda's..he knows us well too)they are great for support and knows us well.

Hi! Jeff, I'm so glad to hear that you're doing well after your last treatment. I'm very sorry to hear about your friend...you are experiencing a walk that few your age or mine normally go. Psalm 16:11 says we are to find joy in the presence of the Lord. Up until recently I would lump joy and happiness in the same category. Now I understand that happiness is momentary and outward while joy is constant and internal. As we walk our trials knowing that God walks along with us, we should have consistent joy internally at His companionship even if externally we are solemn due to the struggles of the moment.

You are a remarkable young man with a tremendous family. Know that as you walk this journey, many are walking along with you through their prayers.

Hug your mom long and tight. We need that more than you know! God bless!
