Merry Christmas To All Of Cheyenne's Family!

Dear Roy and Donna,

I do think of Cheyenne often, and I continue to remember her beneath the Jesus and the Children stained glass window, when I see claw machines, and when I observe a great father/daughter relationship. Cheyenne was a gift to you and a gift to all who followed her story.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and Christmas cheer,

Dear Roy and Donna,

On this All Souls Day, I am thinking of sweet Cheyenne and of many other kids. Here is a litany which I have used on this day for the last six years. Please pray it with me.

Litany Of Remembrance (We Remember And Give Thanks)

Leader: Those who live no more are with us still in our thoughts and in our words. Who they are and what they did will always be a part of us and what we have become at this moment.

At the rising of the sun, and at its going down, we remember them, and we give thanks.

In the drizzle of the rain, and in the singing of the brook, we remember them, and we give thanks.

On the dark days, on the cloudy days, and on the brilliant days, we remember them, and we give thanks.

At the rustling of the leaves, and in the beauty of autumn, we remember them, and we give thanks.

At the beginning of the year, and when it ends, we remember them, and we give thanks.

When we are weary and in need of strength, we remember them, and we give thanks.

When we have joys we crave to share, we remember them, and we give thanks.

When we have decisions that are difficult to make, we remember them, and we give thanks.

When we have achievements that are based on theirs, we remember them, and we give thanks.

As long as we live, they too, will live; for they are now a part of us, and always we remember them, and we give thanks.

Closing Prayer: Loving God, may I take on the mind and heart of Christ, that I may continue to hear your call for my life and embrace your world through my prayer, my work, and my life with others, in Jesus Christ. Amen.

Dear Roy and Donna,

On her eleventh anniversary, I am remembering sweet Cheyenne. Chey was an amazing girl, and her legacy is huge. May you have peace, as you remember your beautiful and generous daughter and recall the joy of celebrations such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas shared with her. You will be celebrating with Cheyenne again, in God's eternal kingdom, where illness and suffering do not exist, but where there is joy and fullness of life.

God bless you always, and God bless all of Chey's siblings, nieces and nephews, and other dear ones.

Dear Roy and Donna,

While making a quick trip to K-Mart for three items yesterday, I could not help notice the large claw machine, which was at the end of my checkout lane. It was full of jesters, clowns, and animals. Of course, your beloved Cheyenne came to mind immediately. I miss the accounts of her adventures with the machines and the stories of her sports, jokes, games, and church activities.

I hope all is well with you both, and with Diana and her husband, and with all the rest of your family.

God bless you all.

Here is a prayer from the Native American people of New York State, which Cheyenne would like.

We return thanks to our mother, the earth,
which sustains us.
We return thanks to the rivers and streams,
which supply us with water.
We return thanks to all herbs, which furnish
medicines for the care of our diseases.
We return thanks to the corn, and to her sisters,
the beans and squash, which give us life.
We return thanks to the bushes and trees,
which provide us with fruit.
We return thanks to the wind,
which, moving the air, has banished diseases.
We return thanks to the moon and stars,
which have given us their light when the sun was gone.
We return thanks to the sun, that has looked upon
the earth with a beneficent eye.
Lastly, we return thanks to the Great Spirit,
in whom is embodied all goodness, and who
directs all things for the good of all creation.

WOW. your mockingbird stories are amazing! I am so glad you and your family get such signs from your daughter and God. It has literally brought tears to my eyes. I'm a complete stranger to you and your family, but I stumbled upon Cheyenne's page from a friend I lost, that was friends with Cheyenne, her name was McKenzie Brewer! McKenzie was my best friend, and I lost her way to early, but she use to talk about Cheyenne and how they met. Sorry for the randomness, I just had to comment. That's truly amazing how all this wonderful stuff happens to you all to let you know Cheyenne is okay. I'm sure it's one of the best feelings you all could ever have! <3 <3 I'm touched. Dear Roy and Donna,

Blessings To All Of Cheyenne's Family And Friends On The Feast Of The Holy Name Of Jesus!

Dear Roy and Donna,

The two guest book entries directly before this one, demostrate the impact that your precious daughter, Cheyenne, has had on people near and far. I know you are proud of your sweet gal. May your memories bring you comfort and peace today and in all of the days of 2012, and may your hope of heaven, with Cheyenne, remain strong.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

A Hymn For The Feast Of The Holy Name Of Jesus:

To the Name of our salvation,
laud and honor let us pay,
which for many a generation
hid in God's foreknowledge lay;
but with holy exultation
we may sing aloud today.

Jesus is the Name we treasure;
Name beyond what words can tell;
Name of gladness, Name of pleasure,
ear and heart delighting well;
Name of sweetness, passing measure,
saving us from sin and hell.

'Tis the Name for adoration,
Name for songs of victory,
Name for holy meditation
in this vale of misery,
Name for joyful veneration
by the citizens on high.

'Tis the Name that whoso preacheth
speaks like music to the ear;
who in prayer this Name beseecheth
sweetest comfort findeth near;
who its perfect wisdom reacheth,
heavenly joy possesseth here.

Jesus is the Name exalted
over every other name;
in this Name, whene'er assaulted,
we can put our foes to shame;
strength to them who else had halted,
eyes to blind, and feet to lame.

Therefore we in love adoring,
this most blessèd Name revere;
holy Jesus, thee imploring
so to write it in us here,
that hereafter, heavenward soaring,
we may sing with angels there.

Dear Fiveash Family,
I just wanted to drop by and send you warm wishes for a healthy and safe 2012. I hope life has been kind to you and those you hold dear. Honestly, I keep hoping for one of those moments where we run into each other while out and about so we can visit, but no such luck at the moment. You are still in my thoughts and prayers and very much on my heart..

I ran across Cheyenne's page about a year after her death. I took a few days to read all the journal entries and it was one of the hardest things I ever did. I had never read anything like that before, and my life was always easy. They were so detailed I felt like I was going through it with the family. Now that I've revisited her page after five years I find that it still hurts as much as it did before. I can only hope that time has helped all of you. I'll cry for Cheyenne and the family tonight, and maybe come back again in 2016. Bye.

I know that Heaven celebrates one of its most wonderful angels. Cheyenne taught me so much, and I cannot express my sorrow. I know she brightened the world more in thirteen years more than most do in a lifetime. I know that with such certainty, because she brightened mine. Love you Cheyenne, I know Heaven must be, well... "Heavenly", especially with you there. God Bless-

Dear Roy and Donna,

With the expected Nor'Easter yesterday afternoon and possible power outages here today, I wrote in Cheyenne's book very early yesterday morning. Since our power is still on, I am able to visit today, as well. Cheyenne was remembered in Holy Eucharist, at St. George's yesterday, and I prayed for both of you.

May memories and photos of your darling Chey give you comfort and peace today, as you await your reunion in heaven.

God bless you always.

New breakthrough discovered for lethal brain tumor
Thursday, March 3rd, 2011 | By Cassandra Feliciano

Scientists at the School of Medicine have created an animal model of a rare and fatal brain tumor affecting young children. This model is the first of its kind and will allow scientists to better study Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIGP), a disease that is fatal for nearly all children who are diagnosed, according to a paper published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

(ANASTASIA YEE/The Stanford Daily)

Led by pediatric neurologist Michelle Monje, the team found that these models could be made by injecting human DIGP cells, donated by the parents of deceased patients, directly into mice. Using this model, the team found new molecular signals that prompt the cancer to grow.

“In a mouse, that population of cells is responsive to the Hedgehog pathway, a signaling pathway important in normal development and many forms of cancer,” Monje said. “We tested the role [of the pathway] by regulating it genetically, and in mice with regulated pathways, […] cells didn’t look as strange.”

These signals could also one day hold the key to curing the cancer by acting as signals for anti-tumor drugs. Monje and her team said they planned to pursue potential cures.

The animal model represents some of the biggest advances for this particular disease, where treatment advances have been stagnant for 35 years, Monje said.

Part of the problem is the lack of available samples.

“The tumor is not biopsied, as diagnosis can be made radiologically (by MRI) and biopsy is dangerous because of the tumor location,” wrote senior author Philip Beachy, professor of developmental biology, in an e-mail to The Daily.

Although Monje declined to give names, she said other research institutions have attempted to create samples as well. Stanford, however, is the first in the world to achieve any success.

DIPG is particularly difficult to treat because the cancerous cells entwine themselves with healthy cells in the brain stem. Since the brain stem is necessary for the body’s survival, surgery is not an option.

As a result, Monje’s findings “give a lot of hope,” said Danah Jewett, whose late son, Dylan, was one of the earliest donors to Monje’s research in January 2009.

“For 35 years, parents were told that their child was going to die,” Jewett said.

“These children need it so badly and their families need so badly,” she added.

DIPG, which primarily affects children ages five through nine, is one of the more common pediatric tumors, Monje said. It affects up to 400 children annually in the U.S. Less than 1 percent of victims live through the first five years once the cancer has set.

Six other families have followed in the Jewett’s footsteps and decided to donate their tumor cells, Monje said.

Her team has also been contacted by a number of other researchers interested in further studying the disease.

For their part, Beachy said that the team has two future studies lined up: the first on the new tumor model to determine what kinds of therapies might be useful, and another to understand the possible cell of origin and changes in normal cell function that cause the tumors.

Several pharmaceutical companies are also working to develop drugs that will treat this cancer. Monje’s new mouse models will test some of the drugs.
I thought you would like to hear of research progress:
The research was funded in part by the National Institutes of Health, the National Brain Tumor Foundation and the Howard Hughes Medical Institute.

Dear Roy and Donna,

I have been thinking of Cheyenne, while at church, during Advent and now during Christmas. She and other CaringBridge children were in my thoughts as I gazed at The Jesus and the Children stained glass window this past Sunday.

God bless Chey's sweet spirit, and God bless the two of you.

Today we have marked The Feast of St. Stephen the martyr. Below is the collect and one of the songs often used on this day. I could not find a midi link for the tune, but perhaps you know it. If so, please sing it with me. If not, please read the words.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

The Collect For St. Stephen's Day:

We give you thanks, O Lord of glory, for the example of the first martyr Stephen, who looked up to heaven and prayed for his persecutors to your Son Jesus Christ, who stands at your right hand; where he lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

+++

When Stephen, full of power and grace,
Went forth throughout the land,
He bore no shield before his face,
No weapon in his hand;
But only in his heart a flame
And on his lips a sword
Wherewith he smote and overcame
The foemen of the Lord.

When Stephen preached against the laws
And by those laws was tried,
He had no friend to plead his cause,
No spokesman at his side;
But only in his heart a flame
And in his eyes a light
Wherewith God's daybreak to proclaim
And rend the veils of night.

When Stephen, young and doomed to die,
Fell crushed beneath the stones,
He had no curse nor vengeful cry
For those who broke his bones;
But only in his heart a flame
And on his lips a prayer
That God, in sweet forgiveness' name
Should understand and spare.

Let me, O Lord, thy cause defend,
A knight without a sword;
No shield I ask, no faithful friend,
No vengeance, no reward;
But only in my heart a flame
And in my soul a dream,
So that the stones of earthly shame
A jewelled crown may seem.

A Christmas Prayer
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

Amen.

Dear Rhonda,

On this day, when household pets and farm animals are often blessed in honor of St. Francis of Assisi, I am thinking of your dear Cheyenne. Yesterday afternoon, Father Henry blessed many animals in the church parking lot. This ceremony is always well attended by St. George members and others, often coming from miles away to attend. May memories of Cheyenne and her animals bring smiles to your face and joy to your heart.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless Miss Cheyenne Marie Fiveash.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Today's Collect:

Most high, omnipotent, good Lord, grant your people grace gladly to renounce the vanities of this world; that, following the way of blessed Francis, we may for love of you delight in your whole creation with perfect joy; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Dear Mr. and Mrs. Fiveash,
I know I am the most horrible friend in the world but it has taken me this long to finally find the website. At the time my family didn't have a computer and then once we did I was either too busy or too unknowledgable to know how to get on and find it. After the rally this weekend I googled it and managed to find the page extremely easily much to my own shame. I'm back in Abilene at ACU but I went by and saw Chey for a little while before I left and left her a little note. I've spent the last few hours reading over the old posts you all wrote and I just can't seem to stop crying. I miss her more than I can ever convey and I wanted you both to know that I never forgot about her over the years and I miss her so much. I don't know if you have any, but if there is any pictures of her or us together that you have could you please email them to me because I'd love to have them in my dorm room... Thank you and I hope to see you again sooner than the rally next year.
Love, Michaine

Dear Roy and Donna,

Thank you for updating Cheyenne's main page. In many ways, it does not seem possible that Cheyenne has been with God for almost six years now. I know I cannot possibly understand the pain and loneliness you have experienced. I certainly miss hearing about the jokes Chey often played on her dear old dad, her sports, her faith, her hobbies, and her acts of generosity.

Please offer my congratulations to Diana upon becoming a homeowner. I know you are proud of her and of her brothers, as you continue to be proud of Cheyenne.

And now, on this day of national remembrance, may God bless all those, who perished serving others on 9/11/01, and may God bless your lovely daughter, Cheyenne Marie Fiveash, and all others who lost their lives to childhood cancer.

My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Happy Fourth Of July To All!

Dear Roy and Donna,

While at church, I remembered sweet Cheyenne and prayed for all of you. I hope things are going well at work and at home. I also hope Cheyenne's grandparents and siblings are all well.

Below is the collect for Independence Day and some patriotic quotations I have seen in recent days. Please pray the prayer with me and think of the founders of our country and of the brave men and women serving in the military today.

God bless you always.

When an American says that he loves his country, he means not only that he loves the New England hills, the prairies glistening in the sun, the wide and rising plains, the great mountains, and the sea. He means that he loves an inner air, an inner light in which freedom lives and in which a man can draw the breath of self-respect.

Summer Blessings To All!

Dear Roy and Donna,

I am thinking of you and of Cheyenne on the first day of summer. I believe she would be glad to have the freedom of these warm days to ride horses, tend sheep, and do outdoor sporting activities. May thoughts of a well and happy Chey fill your hearts with peace and joy.

God bless you always.

Sharing A Summer Solstice Poem:

The heavens bespeak the glory of God.
The firmament ablaze, a text of his works.
Dawn whispers to sunset
Dark to dark the word passes; glory glory.

All in all a great silence,
no tongue's clamor-
yet the web of the world trembles
conscious, as of great winds passing.

The bridegroom's tent is raised,
a cry goes up: He comes! a radiant sun
rejoicing, presiding, his wedding day.
From end to end of the universe his progress.
No creature, no least being but catches fire from him.

Blessings To All On The Feast Of Pentecost!

Dear Roy and Donna,

Cheyenne was remembered in Holy Eucharist this morning. Pentecost has always been one of our favorite holy days, as we love the red colored clothing that many people wear and the red altar clothes. It is also a festival not generally spoiled by commercialism, although a very young Andrew once suggested marketing "Pentecost Pizza."

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet sunshine gal, Cheyenne Marie Fiveash.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Today's Collect:

The Collect:

O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Hail this joyful day's return,
hail the Pentecostal morn,
morn when our ascended Lord
on his Church his Spirit poured! Alleluia!

Like to clove tongues of flame
on the twelve the Spirit came--
tongues, that earth may hear their call,
fire, that love may burn in all. Alleluia!

Lord, to you your people bend;
unto us your Spirit send;
blessings of this sacred day
grant us, dearest Lord, we pray. Alleluia!

You who did our forebears guide,
with their children still abide;
grant us pardon, grant us peace,
till our earthly wanderings cease. Alleluia!

A Few Quotes On Motherhood:

The heart of a mother is a deep abyss at the bottom of which you will always find forgiveness.

~Honore' de Balzac (1799-1850)

A mother is the truest friend we have, when trials, heavy and sudden, fall upon us; when adversity takes the place of prosperity; when friends who rejoice with us in our sunshine, desert us when troubles thicken around us, still will she cling to us, and endeavor by her kind precepts and counsels to dissipate the clouds of darkness, and cause peace to return to our hearts.

~Washington Irving (1783-1859)

My mother was the most beautiful woman I ever saw. All I am I owe to my mother. I attribute all my success in life to the moral, intellectual and physical education I received from her.

~George Washington (1732-1799)

Motherhood from the outset demands the total gift of self.

~Author Unknown

If I am Thy child, O God, it is because Thou gavest me such a mother.

Blessings On Easter Morning!

"Welcome, happy morning!"
age to age shall say:
hell today is vanquished,
heaven is won today!
Lo! the dead is living,
God for evermore!
Him their true Creator,
all his works adore!

Refrain:
"Welcome, happy morning!" age to age shall say.

Earth her joy confesses,
clothing her for spring,
all fresh gifts return
with her returning King:
bloom in every meadow,
leaves on every bough,
speak his sorrow ended,
hail his triumph now.

Months in due succession,
days of lengthening light,
hours and passing moments
praise thee in their flight.
Brightness of the morning,
sky and fields and sea,
Vanquisher of darkness,
bring their praise to thee.

Maker and Redeemer,
life and health of all,
thou from heaven beholding
human nature's fall,
of the Father's Godhead
true and only Son,
mankind to deliver,
manhood didst put on.

Thou, of life the Author,
death didst undergo,
tread the path of darkness,
saving strength to show;
come then, true and faithful,
now fulfill thy word,
'tis thine own third morning!
rise, O buried Lord!

Loose the souls long prisoned,
bound with Satan's chain;
all that now is fallen
raise to life again;
show thy face in brightness,
bid the nations see;
bring again our daylight:
day returns with thee!

March 20
Vernal Equinox

Everywhere is the green of new growth,
The amazing sight of the renewal of the earth.
We watch the grass once again emerging from the ground.
We notice the bright green atop the dark green on the pines,
the fir, the hemlock, the spruce, the cedar.
The alder is already in leaf.
The old plum trees still blossom, leaf, and give forth fruit.
The locust is late as always.
Everywhere and always the song of birds...bees
raiding the orchard, raccoon prowling at
nightfall, the earthworm tunneling the garden,
chickens and rabbits pecking and nibbling, the
goats tugging to reach new delights...all are the
ubiquitous energies of life.

O Lord,
May we today be touched by grace, fascinated and
moved by this your creation, energized by the
power of new growth at work in your world.
May we move beyond viewing this life only through a
frame, but
touch it and be touched by it,
know it and be known by it,
love it and be loved by it.
May our bodies, our minds, and our spirits, learn a new
rhythm paced by the rhythmic pulse of the
whole created order.
May spring come to us, be in us, and recreate life in us.
May we forge a new friendship with the natural
world and discover a new affinity with beauty,
with life, and with the Cosmic Christ in whom
all things were created in heaven and on earth,
visible or invisible, whether thrones or
dominions or principalities or authorities...for
all things were created through him and for him.
In his name.
Amen.

We sang this hymn at St. George's tonight. It is my favorite Lenten hymn. Perhaps you can sing it with me some time this week.

Lord, who throughout these forty days
for us didst fast and pray,
teach us with thee to mourn our sins,
and close by thee to stay.

As thou with Satan didst contend
and didst the victory win,
O give us strength in thee to fight,
in thee to conquer sin.

As thou didst hunger bear and thirst,
so teach us, gracious Lord,
to die to self, and chiefly live
by thy most holy word.

And through these days of penitence,
and through thy Passiontide,
yea, evermore, in life and death,
Jesus! with us abide.

Abide with us, that so, this life
of suffering over-past,
an Easter of unending joy
we may attain at last!

Happy Valentine's Day To All!

Dear Roy and Donna,

Today I have thought of young children having their Valentine's parties at school, hoping their heart shaped envelope or decorated shoe box would overflow with cards, eating heart shaped cookies and special cupcakes, and playing games. Hi! I found your site through Claire's caringbridge. Thought I would drop a little line to say hello, and that I love your page.... but hate the "reason" for the page. Cheyenne is a very beautiful child. I am so very sorry that she is no longer with you. I wont say "loss" because she is not lost, we all know where she is. I'll bet she met my grand daughter Caitlyn when she entered the gates of heaven. I noticed that you are in San Angelo, TX. We live in Odessa, TX. I will, however, add you to my prayer list. Collect For The Confession Of Peter The Apostle:

Almighty Father, who inspired Simon Peter, first among the apostles, to confess Jesus as Messiah and Son of the Living God: Keep your Church steadfast upon the rock of this faith, that in unity and peace we may proclaim the one truth and follow the one Lord, our Savior Jesus Christ; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Dear Roy and Donna,

While doing errands today, I caught a glimpse of a claw machine, as I was hurrying along. I immediately thought of sweet Cheyenne. One of the toys was a New York Giants Teddy in a coach's jacket. I wonder if Cheyenne would have laughed with me at this particular toy, as the Giants have had a rough season and fired one of their coaches this week.

Earlier in the day, Cheyenne was remembered in Holy Eucharist. Mother Laurie, our curate, spoke of the courage of the magi. Truly Cheyenne had that same kind of Godly boldness. Chey's friends miss her very much.

God bless Cheyenne's sweet spirit, and God bless both of you.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Today's Collect:

O God, by the leading of a star you manifested your only Son to the peoples of the earth: Lead us, who know you now by faith, to your presence, where we may see your glory face to face; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

~The Book Of Common Prayer, Page 214

An Epiphany Hymn:

As with gladness men of old
did the guiding star behold;
as with joy they hailed its light,
leading onward, beaming bright;
so, most gracious Lord, may we
evermore be led to thee.

As with joyful steps they sped
to that lowly manger-bed;
there to bend the knee before
him whom heaven and earth adore;
so may we with willing feet
ever seek the mercy seat.

As they offered gifts most rare
at that manger rude and bare;
so may we with holy joy,
pure and free from sin's alloy,
all our costliest treasures bring,
Christ! to thee, our heavenly King.

Holy Jesus! every day
keep us in the narrow way;
and, when earthly things are past,
bring our ransomed souls at last
where they need no star to guide,
where no clouds thy glory hide.

In the heavenly country bright,
need they no created light;
thou its light, its joy, its crown,
thou its sun which goes not down;
there for ever may we sing
alleluias to our King.

Dear Roy and Donna,

Today we celebrate the Feast of the Holy Innocents. Let us pray for a cure for childhood cancer, of all varieties, so holy innocents, like Cheyenne, will stop dying from this terrible scourge. Below is the collect of the day and a hymn.

God bless you always, and God bless Cheyenne, and those with Chey, in God's heavenly country.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

We remember today, O God, the slaughter of the holy innocents of Bethlehem by King Herod. Receive, we pray, into the arms of your mercy all innocent victims; and by your great might frustrate the designs of evil tyrants and establish your rule of justice, love, and peace; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

By all your saints still striving, for all your saints at rest,
Your holy Name, O Jesus. for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious, that they might wear the crown
And ever shine in splendor reflected from your throne.

Praise for your infant marytrs, whom your mysterious love
Called early from life's conflicts to share your peace above.
O Rachel, cease your weeping; they're free from pain and cares.
Lord, grant us crowns as brilliant and lives as pure as theirs.

Then let us praise the Father and worship God the Son
And sing to God the Spirit, eternal Three in One,
Till all the ransomed number who stand before the throne
Ascribe all power and glory and praise to God alone.

A Christmas Affirmation
by John Killinger

I believe that Christmas is more than a time for parties and ornaments; it is a time for remembering Christ and the incarnation of God’s love in human flesh. I believe there are gifts more important than the ones under the Christmas tree, such as the things we teach our children, the way we share ourselves with friends, and the industry with which we set about reshaping the world in our time. I believe that the finest carols are often sung by the poorest voices, from hearts made warm by the wonder of the season. I believe in the angel’s message that we should not be afraid – that the Child of Bethlehem is able to overcome all anxieties and insecurities. I believe in prayer and quietness as ways of appropriating Christmas – that if I wait in silence I will experience the presence of the One born in the stable, for Jesus lives today as surely as he lived then. I believe in going away from Christmas as the Magi went – another way. I want to be different when these days are past – more centered, more thoughtful, more caring. And I believe God will help me. Amen.

Blessings To All On The First Sunday In Advent!

Dear Roy and Donna,

Cheyenne has been remembered, in Holy Eucharist, on Saturday and Sunday. May God always bless her sweet spirit.

In addition to lighting the first violet Advent candle this morning, we sang five Advent hymns, at St. George's. One was new to me. I will add the words and tune link below below.

I am thinking of you, and of all of Chey's loved ones, during these days of hope and preparation. God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Bless'd be the God of Israel who comes to set us free
and raises up new hope for us: a branch of David's tree.
So have the prophets long declared that with a mighty arm
God would turn back our enemies and all who wish us harm.

With promised mercy will God still the covenant recall,
the oath once sworn to Abraham, from foes to save us all;
that we might worship without fear and offer lives of praise,
in holiness and righteousness to serve God all our days.

My child, as prophet of the Lord you will prepare the way,
to tell God's people they are saved from sin's eternal sway.
Then shall God's mercy from on high shine forth and never cease
to drive away the gloom of death and lead us into peace.

Let us give thanks to God our Father for all his gifts so freely bestowed upon us.

For the beauty and wonder of creation, in earth and sky and sea,
R: We thank you, Lord.

For all that is gracious in the lives of men and women, revealing the image of Christ,
R: We thank you, Lord.

For our daily food and drink, our homes and families, and our friends,

For the brave and courageous, who are patient in suffering and faithful in adversity,
R: We thank you, Lord.

For all valiant seekers after truth, liberty, and justice,

Blessings On The Feast Of Christ The King!

Dear Roy and Donna,

Once again, sweet Cheyenne has been remembered in Holy Eucharist. While at church, I also paused to pray for you, and I am pausing, once again, as I write in Chey's book.

On this date, in 1963, three famous people died. They were President Kennedy, Aldous Huxley, and C.S. Lewis. I am including a quote from Lewis before I leave the collect of the day.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

"When Aslan said you could never go back to Narnia, he meant the Narnia you were thinking of. But that was not the real Narnia. That had a beginning and an end. It was only a shadow or a copy of the real Narnia which has always been there and always will be there: just as our own world, England and all, is only a shadow or copy of something in Aslan's real world. You need not mourn over Narnia, Lucy. All of the old Narnia that mattered, all the dear creatures, have been drawn into the real Narnia through the Door. And of course it is different; as different as a real thing is from a shadow or as waking life is from a dream."

~C.S. Lewis, in The Last Battle, 1956

Today's Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God, whose will it is to restore all things in your well beloved Son, the King of kings and Lord of lords: Mercifully grant that the peoples of the earth, divided and enslaved by sin, may be freed and brought together under his most gracious rule; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Dear Roy and Donna,

We were in Pizza Hut for salad and bread sticks the other day. While there, I noticed a claw machine. Inside were sports toys, turkey and pilgrim dolls, totebags, and more. I immediately thought of Cheyenne, who enjoyed those machines so much, and who played them to gather toys for others. May God bless her sweet spirit!

Cheyenne was remembered in Holy Eucharist earlier today. Right now, I am pausing, here, at my keyboard, to pray for both of you.

God bless you always.

Dear Roy and Donna,

I have thought of Cheyenne a lot during the last few days. I know it doesn't get any easier for you, but the hope of heaven, which we focus on, during the days of All Saints and All Souls, must encourage you.

This morning, at St. George's, some of the young people processed in dressed as saints. I noticed St. Dennis, St. Mary, St. Dominick, St. Dorothy, and St. Patrick. Looking at the children, I wondered what saint Chey would have chosen and who would have helped her prepare her hagiography to be shared with the people. Following Eucharist, we had a luncheon in the parish hall. I am sure Cheyenne would have enjoyed all of the good food and good conversations.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless Cheyenne.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

The Collect For The Feast Of All Saints:

Almighty God, you have knit together your elect in one communion and fellowship in the mystical body of your Son Christ our Lord: Give us grace so to follow your blessed saints in all virtuous and godly living, that we may come to those ineffable joys that you have prepared for those who truly love you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who with you and the Holy Spirit lives and reigns, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.

A Traditional Hymn For All Saints' Day:

For all the saints, who from their labors rest,
who thee by faith before the world confessed,
thy Name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

Thou wast their Rock, their Fortress and their Might;
thou, Lord, their Captain in the well fought fight;
thou, in the darkness drear, their one true Light.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

For the apostles' glorious company,
who bearing forth the cross o'er land and sea,
shook all the mighty world, we sing to Thee:
Alleluia, Alleluia!

For the Evangelists, by whose blest word,
like fourfold streams, the garden of the Lord,
is fair and fruitful, be thy Name adored.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

For Martyrs, who with rapture kindled eye,
saw the bright crown descending from the sky,
and seeing, grasped it, thee we glorify.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

O may thy soldiers, faithful, true, and bold,
fight as the saints who nobly fought of old,
and win, with them the victor's crown of gold.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

O blest communion, fellowship divine!
we feebly struggle, they in glory shine;
all are one in thee, for all are thine.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

And when the strife is fierce, the warfare long,
steals on the ear the distant triumph song,
and hearts are brave, again, and arms are strong.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

The golden evening brightens in the west;
soon, soon to faithful warriors comes their rest;
sweet is the calm of paradise the blessed.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

But lo! there breaks a yet more glorious day;
the saints triumphant rise in bright array;
the King of glory passes on his way.
Alleluia, Alleluia!

From earth's wide bounds, from ocean's farthest coast,
through gates of pearl streams in the countless host,
and singing to Father, Son and Holy Ghost:
Alleluia, Alleluia!

On the day after Cheyenne's eighteenth birthday, I have been viewing some of her pictures. I have always thought the one on the main page, of Chey in a pink top, was especially lovely, but I like many, including the one of her receiving a kiss from little Cinnamon Sugar. Dear Roy and Donna,

I am thinking of you, very early in the morning on Cheyenne's birthday. It doesn't seem possible that sweet Chey has been gone almost five years, but your gal did more in her thirteen years, than many do in thirty. Cheyenne was, and is, a real blessing! Her sense of humor, generosity, and love of people will not be forgotten.

God bless you all.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Dear Roy and Donna,

As autumn begins, I am thinking of you and of sweet Cheyenne. I hope you enjoy this season of color and of harvest.

Below I am adding a favorite seasonal poem. I hope you find a blessing in it.

Of course, today is also Cheyenne's Birthday Eve. I am thinking today of how you, her older siblings, and her grandparents, were anticipating your gal's arrival eighteen years ago. May your memories of this precious time be sweet.

God bless you both, and God bless all of your family.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

The summer yields to the autumn winds blowing
While the cool burns the leaves golden red
We harvest fields we planted once knowing
Grains of truth would soon come to a head.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

Again dreams seeming hard to remember
Alluring sleep ever taking its toll
Love redeems like the snows of December
Pure and deep as the infinite soul.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

To meadowlands of the soul's flowering
We return from the roots we have sprung
To understand love we know is empowering
Though we learn from the truth where love hung.

Mystery Healer, I feel your hand above my brow
Into your love I bow.

Dear Roy and Donna,

Three days before Cheyenne's eighteenth birthday, Cheyenne was remembered in Holy Eucharist. I sat near the Resurrection/New Life window, where the depicted deer and squirrel often reminds me of Chey and of her great love for all animals. May God bless her, and you, always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Today's Collect:

Grant us, Lord, not to be anxious about earthly things, but to love things heavenly; and even now, while we are placed among things that are passing away, to hold fast to those that shall endure; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Collect For The Commemoration Of Theodore Of Tarsus, Archbishop Of Canterbury, 19 September 690:

Almighty God, who called your servant Theodore of Tarsus from Rome to the see of Canterbury, and gave him gifts of grace and wisdom to establish unity where there had been division, and order where there had been chaos: Create in thy Church, we pray, by the operation of the Holy Spirit, such godly union and concord that it may proclaim, both by word and example, the Gospel of the Prince of Peace; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Dear Roy and Donna,

Email just brought me the news of baby boys born to families in our parish. One child's Christian name is Brennan Patrick, and the other's name is Tate David. For you, all such events remind you of the birth of your own dear Cheyenne Marie and of her three siblings. May those memories bring you joy and peace today.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless Cheyenne, Diana, Christopher, and Michael.

Dear Roy and Donna,

On the anniversary of the 9/11 attack, I am thinking of you, of Cheyenne, and of those brave souls that perished in New York City, in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon. Among those individuals are two somewhat connected to me. One was a classmate in high school, whose wife was also a classmate, and the other was a priest, who at one time served at Siena College, a few miles from our home. (A prayer of that priest is below.) May God bless your hero, Cheyenne Marie Fiveash, and may God also bless all those, who perished serving others on 9/11/01.

Happy Labor Day To All!

Dear Roy and Donna,

Andrew and I had a busy day today, so we decided to slip into Pizza Hut for the buffet lunch. As always, it was good. Today, they seemed to have an especially appealing selection of items for making a tossed salad, but we also had some pizza, pasta, and bread sticks.

I hope you have had some time to relax during this long weekend.

Dear Roy and Donna,

Today I wish you and your whole family, a good Labor Day Weekend. When my boys were little, if the weather was good, we always had an outdoor outing at this time just before our New York schools open. One thing they enjoyed doing was packing a picnic and going to the canal to watch the boats pass through the locks. Sometimes the care taker would invite us to come into the building and watch him work up close. I am sure sweet Cheyenne would have enjoyed seeing the locks raise and lower the boats and waving to the people aboard.

May your faith and your memories of Labor Day Weekends spent with Cheyenne comfort and sustain you.

God bless you always.

Prayer For Labor Day:

On this weekend, when we rest from our usual labors, loving Father, we pray for all who shoulder the tasks of human labor—in the marketplace, in factories and offices, in the professions, and in family living.

We thank you, Lord, for the gift and opportunity of work; may our efforts always be pure of heart, for the good of others and the glory of your name.

We lift up to you all who long for just employment and those who work to defend the rights and needs of workers everywhere.

May those of us who are now retired always remember that we still make a valuable contribution to our Church and our world by our prayers and deeds of charity.

May our working and our resting all give praise to you until the day we share together in eternal rest with all our departed in your Kingdom as you live and reign Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Dear Roy and Donna,

Yesterday afternoon, I attended the ordination of a Lutheran friend. Jennifer, like your precious Cheyenne, and like your other children, was baptized into the body of Christ, raised in a Lutheran Sunday School program, and active in a Lutheran youth group. For about four years, after her college graduation, Jen worked at our church, St. George's, as youth minister, just down the road from her beloved Prince of Peace Church. As she worked among us, she discerned her call to the ordained public ministry. Our rector during Jen's time with us, Father Bill Hinrichs, presented Jen to Bishop Marie Jerge and Bishop Kurt Kusserow. What a dynamic moment in ecumenical sharing!

Cheyenne was certainly blessed to have been given the same spiritual gifts that Jennifer received. You were good parents in this, and in many other things to sweet Chey. The results of your excellent parenting were always displayed in your teenager's life, despite her grueling illness.

God bless you for being Godly and loving parents, and God bless all of your children and grandchildren.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Dear Mr. Fiveash,

I have been quietly reading about your precious daughter and praying for your family for many years now. Friends of ours recently lost their son, and shared some pictures taken in St. Peter's Cathedral of a large aura next to them. This Cathedral was a special place for the family, and this very large aura appears in no other pictures, except the ones taken there. I immediately thought of something you had written on this site about a book called "Heaven" which described how our loved ones remain among us, and how much comfort that gave you. I would like to get this book for our friends, and was wondering if you could provide the author's name so that I can be sure to get the right book. Though I did not know Cheyenne, I have been so touched and inspired by your tremendous love for her, and hope that by sharing this book our friends may find some peace in knowing that their son is still with them. Thank you for sharing your amazing daughter, and the lessons you have learned along the way. God bless you.

Dear Roy and Donna,

We set a new record for rain, here in the Albany area, in the month of July. We had the most rain in 183 years, coming in at about ten inches. I probably should not mention it here, as I understand your state is very dry this year. Here people are having difficulty finding a time, when it is not raining to do their yard work, and many have been denied time to golf, camp, fish, play or watch baseball, and have barbecues. Andrew and I had plans to attend a rodeo on Friday, but instead, we saw the movie, "Up." We enjoyed the Disney-Pixar presentation, and I thought of Cheyenne, Connor, and others, who would have enjoyed it.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet gal, Cheyenne Marie Fiveash.

Hi Roy and Donna
My Preschool's church got a new pastor the 1st of July. The Parsonage is having a complete Extreme Makeover. The pastor and his wife are living in another church's parsonage for two months while we try to make ours livable. Gayle and I are doing all the landscaping (which I might say is looking good!) One day we decided to cut the grass...there were two lawn mowers in the garage. I have not cut my own grass for two years (and now I remember why:
my sciatica doesn't take well to mowing the lawn.)
Well, the head of the trustees got a kick out of "this old lady with the lawn mower" and took several photos. Apparently he shows photos (big on the wall of the church) and gives the updates to the congregation at the two late services. (I sing at the 1st service) So, yesterday evening at the church's ice cream social, I heard that folks had seen me. (This is a long story, but there is a point!)
so, Gayle and I got a private showing of our photos, and there I was wearing
CHEYENNE'S T-SHIRT!!!!

Roy, hope your job is still going well, and that Donna is doing okay on the home front.

Hello Fiveash Family

I just came back to NY from Texas where I spent two weeks fencing the USFA Summer Nationals in Dallas. Boy was it hot there. Oneday it was 108!
Aside from the fact that I was fencing nonstop and am also the youngest national referee and tournament director for the USFA so I was reffing alot of events I did not fence in, I had a great time. I did not see much of Dallas but all the Texans were so nice. My Tumbleweed buddy Savannah Remington, who was my buddy beginning at the same time as Cheyenne came to visit to see me fence with her family from Tulsa, Oklahoma and that was great because we had never met before in all these six years. Believe it or not I am coming back to Dallas next March where there is fencing North American Cup. Hopefully I will get to see a little more of Texas then. As we were leaving at the airport yesterday, a woman with a little chichuaua (sp?) walked up to where we were sitting and the little dog, Molly, who reminded me of Cinnamon jumped up to sit on my lap and I thought of Cheyenne and what a perfect way it was to say goodbye to her home state. Only the very best to your whole family.

Sweet Cheyenne has been remembered once again in Holy Eucharist. Also, right now, I am pausing at my keyboard to pray for both of you and for all of Chey's loved ones.

God bless you always, and God bless all of the people of Trinity Lutheran Church, as well.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Almighty and everlasting God, you have given to us your servants grace, by the confession of a true faith, to acknowledge the glory of the eternal Trinity, and in the power of your divine Majesty to worship the Unity: Keep us steadfast in this faith and worship, and bring us at last to see you in your one and eternal glory, O Father; who with the Son and the Holy Spirit live and reign, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Roy and Donna,

Today's saint Justin, reminds me of the value of names and the fun of naming, as one of my boys used the name "Justin," as his Confirmation name. Your lovely daughter is the only person I have ever known named "Cheyenne," so perhaps someday you will post some information about how Cheyenne Marie Fiveash was named. I am sure there is a good story there.

The name "Justin," is associated, in the church, with character and with courage, as Justin was a teacher and a martyr, traits that Cheyenne Fiveash also had in great abundance. God bless her sweet spirit.

Below is the collect for today.

God bless you both.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Almighty and everlasting God, who found your martyr Justin wandering from teacher to teacher, seeking the true God, and revealed to him the sublime wisdom of your eternal Word: Grant that all who seek you, or a deeper knowledge of you, may find and be found by you; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Dear Roy and Donna,

On a windy Pentecost afternoon, I am thinking of you and remembering Cheyenne. I read the lessons at one of our services, including a long lesson from Acts 2, with many difficult names identifying groups of ancient peoples.

I hope you are well and that you have had a good weekend. I also hope that Diana, Michael, and Christopher are doing well. You have a lovely family.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Here's one of my favorite Pentecost hymns. Perhaps you can sing some of it today.

Refrain: Hail thee, festival day!
Blest day that art hallowed forever;
day wherein God from heaven,
shone on the world with his grace.

Lo! in the likeness of fire,
on them that await his appearing,
he whom the Lord foretold,
suddenly, swiftly, descends. Refrain

Forth from the Father he comes
with his sevenfold mystical dowry,
pouring on human souls
infinite riches of God. Refrain

Hark! in a hundred tongues
Christ's own, his chosen Apostles,
preach to a hundred tribes
Christ and his wonderful works. Refrain

Praise to the Spirit of life,
all praise to the Fount of our being,
light that dost lighten all,
life that in all dost abide. Refrain

God, who art giver of all
good gifts and lover of concord,
pour thy balm on our souls,
order our ways in thy peace. Refrain

God Almighty, who fillest
the heaven, the earth and the ocean,
guard us from harm without,
cleanse us from evil within. Refrain

Kindle our lips with his live bright coal
from the hands of the Seraph;
shine in our minds with thy light;
burn in our hearts with thy love. Refrain

Words: Venantius Fortunatus (530-609);

I sing a song of the saints of God,
Patient and brave and true,
Who toiled and fought and lived and died
For the Lord they loved and knew.
And one was a doctor,
And one was a queen,
And one was a shepherdess on the green:
They were all of them saints of God—and I mean,
God helping, to be one too.

~Mrs. L.L. Scott (1898-1986)

Dear Roy and Donna,

I know I have shared the hymn above in its entirety with you previously. The "shepherdess on the green," Joan of Arc, is remembered today 578 years after her death. Over twenty movies and more than 20,000 books have been written about her, but she still remains a puzzle to many of us today. We remember Joan, in the words of James E. Kiefer, "not for winning military victories, or even because her visions were necessarily authentic, but because, being persuaded of the will of God for her life, she responded in faith and obedience to that will as she understood it." May we be able to also respond to that Will in our own time.

I am thinking of you and of your sweet gal, Cheyenne today, and I will remember Chey in Holy Eucharist.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect (For Joan Of Arc, Visionary, 30 May 1431)

O God, by whom the meek are guided in judgement, and light rises up in darkness for the godly: Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, to ask what you would have us do; that the spirit of wisdom may save us from all false choices, that in your light we may see light, and in your straight paths may not stumble, through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer For Our Country

Almighty God, who hast given us this good land for our heritage: We humbly beseech thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of thy favor and glad to do thy will. Bless our land with honorable industry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion; from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people the multitudes brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endue with the spirit of wisdom those to whom in thy Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that, through obedience to thy law, we may show forth thy praise among the nations of the earth In the time of prosperity, fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in thee to fail; all which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

I give thanks for arriving
Safely in a new dawn,
For the gift of eyes
To see the world,
The gift of mind
To feel at home
In my life.
The waves of possibility
Breaking on the shore of dawn,
The harvest of the past
That awaits my hunger,
And all the furtherings
This new day will bring.

I am sure that Cheyenne's garden is coming along well. Roy, you give so much energy and dedication to it.

Today's Collect:

O God, whose Son Jesus is the good shepherd of your people: Grant that when we hear his voice we may know him who calls us each by name, and follow where he leads; who, with you and the Holy Spirit, lives and reigns, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

+++

The King of love my shepherd is,
whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack if I am his,
and he is mine for ever.

Where streams of living water flow,
my ransomed soul he leadeth,
and where the verdant pastures grow,
with food celestial feedeth.

Perverse and foolish oft I strayed,
but yet in love He sought me,
and on his shoulder gently laid,
and home, rejoicing, brought me.

In death's dark vale I fear no ill
with thee, dear Lord, beside me;
thy rod and staff my comfort still,
thy cross before to guide me.

Thou spread'st a table in my sight;
thy unction grace bestoweth;
and O what transport of delight
from thy pure chalice floweth!

And so through all the length of days
thy goodness faileth never:
Good Shepherd, may I sing thy praise
within thy house for ever.

Dear Roy and Donna,

I cannot believe that four and a half years have passed, since Cheyenne left her earthly home for her heavenly dwelling. What a bittersweet anniversary period this is for you, for all of Chey's family, and for all of her fans! Yet, we are not like those who have no hope. Cheyenne will be seen, known, and loved again, in that place where there is no sorrow or grief, but only life eternal. You can count on it.

In the meantime, Cheyenne is remembered in our thoughts, prayers, and candle lighting.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless your sweet daughter, Miss Cheyenne Marie Fiveash.

I recently went through a file box I keep in my room, mostly it contains pictures and keepsakes but I managed to get some old court documents mixed in and wanted to weed that out...I found a card Cheyenne had written to David in the summer of 2004, along with a couple pictures...I do have her picture along with several CB children, on the wall in my room....so these too will go up, I shared the note with Dave.....he gets very quiet and I know it is all so surreal, we will keep her note forever.

O Sorrow Deep!

O sorrow deep! Who would not weep
with heartfelt pain and sighing!
God the Father's only Son
in the tomb is lying.

The Paschal Lamb, like Isaac's ram,
in blood was offered for us,
pouring out the life that he
might to life restore us.

Blest shall they be eternally
who ponder in their weeping
that the glorious Prince of Life
should in death be sleeping.

O Jesus blest, my help and rest,
who tears I pray thee, hear me:

Hello from Michigan..I run across this site from a person in a game site that had it posted in her profile. Your daughter was/is a very beautiful girl and I'm so very sorry for your loss. I just loved the entries on the little ways she shows you she is still here! I lost my father in 2003 from colon cancer and the summer after, we started getting butterflies all over our yard around the pool when my son who was 2 when my dad passed would be out there swimming.And every year they come back. Hello Fiveash Family!
It was so wonderful to see you all last night and share that special cheerleading moment with you! Bethany was excited to see you albeit a bit embarrassed. But, she felt really good about her performance once she was finished. She was thrilled to have so many folks there to see her!
Hope all is well with you guys! Love and prayers to you!

Hello Fiveash family,
I just wanted to check in and let you know that I include you in my prayers each night. I have gotten in the habit of reading Maddie's past journal entries on the corresponding day of the week. Yesterday I read an entry mentioning her phone call with Cheyenne. She and Cheyenne seemed to experience very similar symptoms and still were so upbeat and determined on enjoying life.
Whenever I imagine Maddie up in heaven (in her Mansion, with a karaoke club on the first floor) I see Cheyenne close by her. I am guessing that we will be welcomed by both of them when that day comes and they will immediately start showing us around heaven, being their same inclusive and outgoing selves.
Thank you for sharing your wonderful memories of Cheyenne and the stories of her "visits" to you in many forms. Reading her page continues to comfort me.
Sending my love and prayers,

It really stinks!!
I wrote in our journal we are doing a memorial/remembrance service for her in October (Oct.1) We could cure your empty nest syndrome for a few days if you want to visit! :)

I think of you guys often.

I came across your website via another Caringbridge site. Your story has touched me to the core. I am an adult going back to school for nursing and when I'm feeling a little weary from school, the Caringbridge stories help me to remember why I'm pursuing a degree in nursing. I love your stories of "signs from Cheyenne". I too get them from my Dad who passed from cancer a little over a year ago. I seem to receive them exactly when I need them. Your story, and many others are my inspiration to keep going in school. As hard as it is, I know nursing is my true calling and someday I can only hope to make someone's day just a little easier. God bless you and your family.

Dear Roy and Donna,

I was here yesterday, but I got called away before I could sign Cheyenne's guest book. I just love the bracelet story. Truly Cheyenne is with you in many, many ways.

About a week ago, Andrew and I saw the movie, Inkheart. When the show got out, we stopped at Friendly Ice Cream for dinner. There, just inside the door, was the claw machine. Of course, I thought of Cheyenne and all the fun and opportunities for charitable gifts that she created with those machines. God bless her sweet spirit!

God bless you both, and God bless Cheyenne's grandparents and siblings, as well.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect (Note the words between "keep" and "conclusion."):

Almighty and everlasting God, you sent your servant Anskar as an apostle to the people of Scandinavia, and enabled him to lay a firm foundation for their conversion, though he did not see the results of his labors: Keep your Church from discouragement in the day of small things, knowing that when you have begun a good work you will bring it to a fruitful conclusion; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Glad Epiphany To All!

Dear Roy and Donna,

On this holy day, I am thinking of you, and of sweet Cheyenne. We are having nasty weather, and I am not feeling my best, so I did not get out to Eucharist tonight. I am contenting myself singing some of my favorite Epiphany hymns. I will include the John Mason Neale hymn that not many people know, but which is probably my favorite. Tony Barrand and John Roberts, who study and perform traditional music, are the ones that introduced it to me. It is on a couple of their Nowell Sing We Clear albums and also on a William Pint and Felicia Dale recording.

God bless you always.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

Over the Hill and Over the Dale
by John Mason Neale

Over the hill and over the dale
Came three kings together
Caring naught for snow and hail
Cold and wind and weather
Now on Persia’s sandy plane
Now where Tigris swells with rain
They their camels tether
Now through Syrian lands they go
Now through Moab faint and slow
Now o’r Edam’s heather.

Over the hill and over the dale
Each king bears a present
Wise men go a child to hale
Monarchs seek a peasant
And in front a star proceeds
Over rocks and rivers leads
Shines with beams incessant
Therefore onward, onward still
Ford the stream and climb the hill
Love makes all things pleasant.

He is God ye go to meet
Therefore incense proffer
He is king ye go to greet
Gold is in your coffer
Also man he comes to share
Every woe that man can bear
Tempter, railer, scoffer
Therefore now against the day
In the grave when him they lay
Myrrh ye also offer.

Over the hill and over the dale,
Riding east together
Caring naught for snow and hail,
Naught for wind and weather
Warned by God from Herod’s door,
Each king turns for home once more
Hearts and footsteps lighter,
Now behind them shines the star
Which they followed from afar,
Shining ever brighter.

+++ Remember, each time we encounter the living Christ, we continue with hearts and footsteps lighter. +++

Amen.

Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully.

Shed upon your Church, O Lord, the brightness of your light, that we, being illumined by the teaching of your apostle and evangelist John, may so walk in the light of your truth, that at length we may attain to the fullness of eternal life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. A Christmas Prayer
by Robert Louis Stevenson

Loving Father,
Help us remember the birth of Jesus,
that we may share in the song of the angels,
the gladness of the shepherds,
and worship of the wise men.

Close the door of hate
and open the door of love all over the world.
Let kindness come with every gift
and good desires with every greeting.
Deliver us from evil by the blessing
which Christ brings,
and teach us to be merry with clear hearts.

May the Christmas morning
make us happy to be thy children,
and Christmas evening bring us to our beds
with grateful thoughts,
forgiving and forgiven,
for Jesus' sake.

Amen.

God bless you, dear Fiveash family. I am thinking of you tonight.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Dear Roy and Donna,

Today is another blustery December day. We have fresh snow, but, due to the wind, few children will be playing outside, after school.

We are marking the Feast of St. Thomas, the Apostle, today. (It is normally celebrated on December 21, and is often the day of winter ordinations, but it was transferred, due to Sunday, which is always a Feast of Our Lord.) I will leave the collect and a hymn below.

God bless you always, and of course, God bless sweet Cheyenne.

Grace, peace, love, and all good,

~Colette

Today's Collect:

Almighty and everliving God, who strengthened your apostle Thomas With sure and certain faith in your Son's resurrection: Grant us so perfectly and without doubt to believe in Jesus Christ, our Lord and our God, that our faith may never be found wanting in your sight; through him who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen.

By all your saints still striving, for all your saints at rest,
Your holy Name, O Jesus. for evermore be blessed.
You rose, our King victorious, that they might wear the crown
And ever shine in splendor reflected from your throne.

All praise, O Lord, for Thomas whose short-lived doubtings prove
Your perfect two-fold nature, the depth of your true love.
To all who live with questions a steadfast faith afford;
And grant us grace to know you, made flesh, yet God and Lord.

Then let us praise the Father and worship God the Son
And sing to God the Spirit, eternal Three in One,
Till all the ransomed number who stand before the throne
Ascribe all power and glory and praise to God alone.

Words: Horatio Bolton Nelson (1823-1913); ver. Hymnal, 1982
Music: King's Lynn, English melody; adapt. Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958)
or Nyland, Finnish folk melody; adapt. David Evans (1874-1948)

Gratefully. Faithfully. Peacefully.

Dear Roy and Donna, I am thinking of you! I am so sorry to hear about Blackjack, and I remember well hearing about him so often. God rest his gentle soul! I just ordered a book from Amazon called Notes Left Behind: 135 Days with Elena. It's the journal of a child with brain cancer, written by her family so that her sister will always remember her. Roy, I always said that you had a book in you. Maybe someday you will write it. Meanwhile, I am sending you healing thoughts and hope that you and your family will have a blessed Christmas and a healthy and happy New Year ahead. Take good care, my friends. Love, Linda

days. ugh ugh. fortunately, I stayed with friends.
