Vonda N. McIntyre died at 6:25 pm, Pacific Time, in no pain and surrounded by friends. The funeral home has collected her body which will be cremated. Vonda was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on February 7; her death came swiftly, just short of two months later. Vonda's posse and local friends will get together for a brief gathering within the next couple days. A reception that is open to the public will be scheduled within about a month and will be announced here on CaringBridge as soon as the details are known. Good-bye, Vonda.

Vonda and I took our first Aikido class together after watching a demo at a writing workshop. She persevered, I didn't. Always regretted that, and that we lost touch. She mentored me through my first experience with an agent, and cheered me on when I finally got published. But best of all, that week of her guidance in the writing workshop instilled in me a little voice--hers, of course--reminding me never to run with the easy idea. Shine on, Starfarer.

Vonda’s trek books got me thru my teenage years they were great reads. Now 55 having lost my wife to cancer 9 years ago I know the strength of the person that goes thru the disease. Long live Vonda in her words and great spirit

As Sara said, Vonda's spirit is strong. She was a wheel horse at Book View Cafe—a kind, caring, giving person and a dear sister in arms. We miss her so very much. When I flounder in the face of a project I'm not sure I can pull off, I do believe Vonda's spirit will help me keep at it. She is an inspiration.

I never got to meet Vonda, but she impacted my life profoundly through her work. I adored her Star Trek novels, which shaped a future that beckoned to me with hope. And her historical fantasy The Moon and the Sun ignited my imagination and inspired me, showing me that was it possible to blend fantasy and history in a seamlessly graceful way. I'll miss her and her voice and her faith in all of us.

I got to meet Ms. Vonda at my place of Employment, when I worked at the Library. I was introduced by a fellow Co-worker. She and I had our Picture taken, and had a 15 minute discussion about writing. :) She was a GREAT Writer, and one of my Inspirations to begin writing. :) <3 R.I.P Ms. Vonda... You will be sorely Missed. <3

A gentle passage into the light for you, Vonda! Yesterday evening, I suddenly had a strong sense of Vonda passing, and lit a candle for her on my outdoor shrine. Then later I read the news here that she had died. Her spirit is strong!
