Last week, our beautiful, Lilly-clad, pink-lipstick-wearing Gwendolyn suffered a massive brain stem stroke that caused significant damage to her brain. The team of neurologists managing her care are experts in stroke. She is also being closely monitored and cared for by a team of other medical professionals including physical therapists, occupational therapists, respiratory therapists, and the wonderful nursing staff in the Neuro ICU at Augusta University.
Gwen’s recovery requires rest in between visits from these team members, which means visitors must be strictly limited. We are so thankful for the outpouring of support from the community, and we are sharing your messages of love and encouragement with Gwen daily. Please continue to use the email prayersforgwen2022@gmail.com to share your messages. You can send a simple email, a prayer, photos, or video messages.
Gwen has Locked-In Syndrome (LIS). She's able to communicate with us using eye movements. She’s listening to music while she rests, and her room is covered in notes of encouragement and photos of loved ones.
In the coming days, some friends will start a meal train to help provide for the family as we assist in Gwen’s care. In the meantime, they are already being provided with plenty of food. A plan is underway to create donation opportunities as well. Please keep an eye on this page for updates and links. There are so many people who want to help in other ways as well, and we are grateful. Right now, there isn’t much to do, but this will be a long road for all of us, and we are certain there will be more opportunities to help as we move forward.
The current plan of care involves a lot of waiting. Please understand that updates will not be frequent, as there is often no new information to share.
Praying daily for you, your family and your medical team🙏
