I don't know why, but Rebecca has been on my mind so much lately and of course, that naturally leads me to thinking about all of you. I have prayed for you and hope that each day of grieving will be matched 10 fold with days of happy memories. Always know that there are people thinking about you and praying for you - you're never alone! Love and miss you.

I don't know how often you check the guestbook, but my thoughts of Rebecca and all of you are never far. I think of her at the most random times and of course, when I think of her, my thoughts then go to you and wonder how you're all doing. Her impact is still felt and will continue to be for years and years even into eternity. God bless you all.

Emmaline, I have kept up with Rebecca's journal ever since hearing through my dance dynamics friends years ago that she was sick. Now that I teach at dance dynamics and see you every Thursday when you come to tap, I always think of her, the girl I never met. What an inspiration and impact she had on me through her journal. Thank you for continuing to update. Praying for you and your family!

I regularly check in for any updates you post just to stay connected. The journey your family has gone thru has affected SOOOO many people and Rebecca will never be forgotten. This past June was extra special to us as my son Noah was the HS Honors ensemble member who received the Psalmist Award and scholarship given in Rebecca's name. His musical career at NRCA from 4th grade thru 12th was done with much dedication and hard work. He said his greatest honor was receiving the scholarship because of its connection to Rebecca. He was so humbled and said he tried to remember her struggles on those mornings he dreaded getting up so early to be at school ready to sing at 7am. She was his driving force and I'm so grateful that he knew her as a friend and had her to look up to for guidance and encouragement. He also said there were no two people more dedicated to supporting the music department at NRCA like Mr. & Mrs. Simpson. Without fail they were at every concert, volunteered for choir retreats, and even participated at Tryon Palace trips. You will NEVER know how much that meant to those students. I wish the rest of the administration and staff would attend and support them as much as you have. It's really sad that the choir doesn't get the recognition they deserve. That was never more evident to me than at graduation when one of Noah's best friends said to him he wasn't even aware that Noah could sing (he had a solo part). Because of Noah receiving the scholarship, UNCW has requested that he audition for their music department. If he does, it will certainly be with Rebecca in mind. Pretty neat that she'll be his angel sitting there on his shoulder. Love to you all and thanks again for your kind words to Noah and all the encouragement.

Jeff, Emmaline & Vinson, I've been thinking so much about you guys & Rebecca lately. I've learned throughout the years in my walk with the Lord, that when someone is on my heart so heavily, He wants me to pray for them. I can only imagine that the holidays are a tough time for you, but I'm sure there are many, many people thinking of you and lifting you up in prayer. Please let me know if there's anything I can do for you. Love to you all!

Both daughters would have been so proud of mom and dad at the HS Christmas concert this past Saturday night. During the audience participation of the Twelve Days of Christmas, group #5 (singing Five Gold Rings!) was very few in numbers. Mr. & Mrs. Simpson came running over from their section each time to help out and loudly sing along! The kids on stage were so in awe that we had a packed house on a snowy night but the enthusiasm Mr. & Mrs. Simpson showed was just priceless to them! Thank you so much for supporting our kids!

Hello Vinson-
We, of course, check Rebecca's website often and think of her and your family every day...seriously, a day does not go by that we don't. So often I look at Rebecca Mae - her blonde curly hair and those deep, sparkling blue eyes; her sweet nature and persistence - and think how much of Rebecca there is in her. I often wonder what Rebecca would think of Rebecca Mae - I am sure they would have gotten along great. Then I laugh as I remember the conversation I had with your Mom. We are pretty sure Rebecca had an awful lot to do with God giving us our Rebecca - her blue eyes and a May birthday. That was no coincidence. I can't wait to tell her the story - when she will really understand. Your entry brought me to tears. Know that we love you guys and feel so blessed to continue to be a part of your lives. Rebecca changed our lives forever, she changed our kids' lives forever, she changed our family...all for the better. We talk about Rebecca often and tell her story. She was so, so amazing. I pray that my own children will have even 1/2 as much of the love in their hearts, persistence, sense of humor and grace that Rebecca did. I pray that my children will love and take care of one another like you and Rebecca did. Hang in there. Thank you for sharing your family and your life with us. We love you guys!

Praying for Rebecca's friend. Was she a NRCA student? Our son Michael "MJ" graduated 2009 and was in the choir with Rebecca in his earlier years. Rebecca will forever be remembered for her sweet spirit and her courage. I'm writing a story about another WF teenager battling cancer and I thought of Rebecca. I had wanted to read Jeff's log of his trip but misplaced the website. Would still like to read it if it's available. We know that you still miss her terribly and know that shes not forgotten.

Hi Simpsons,
Just wanted to let you know that you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I was looking back over some of your beautiful journal entries and was reminded that Jeff's Journey took him very near my backdoor. I'm in Blacksburg on sabbatical at Virginia Tech. So if you want to revisit some of the "old stomping grounds" you are welcome to come on up. Seriously, I'm renting a huge house for the fall semester and would be happy to have you visit, check out the Blue Ridge Parkway, and/or just chill. It's pretty quiet up here all by myself!

Hello Simpsons! We were just reading Rebecca's journal from 6 years ago. It seems strange that we didn't know you then, yet it feels like we've known each other forever. The craziest thing happened today...we were looking at a gift that we thought you would enjoy and Ben asked the saleswoman, "where is this company from?" She replied, "Raleigh, NC". He just laughed and said, "that is where I would be sending this." It turns out the company is not based out of Raleigh which makes it even stranger that she would have said that.
Vinson, your journal gave me chills - it was so well written. There are things that happen to us to that make us feel Rebecca's presence too. The other day Rebecca Mae found the picture of Rebecca and Ben on our fridge. She pulled it down and started "talking" to it...she does that often.
We think of y'all often and especially today. Sending our love-
Ben & Shannon

PS. I know you are jealous of our negative temperatures...it was minus 1 windchill today. It felt like a heat wave...we didn't need jackets! :)

Hello from sometimes sunny but usually partly cloudy and yes, SNOWY Minnesota. Last week it snowed two or three days. People are actually putting their Christmas lights out.....we think it is a little too early for that. Rebecca finally is learning to walk. She will walk a little bit, stop, and then clap for herself with a big cheesy grin on her face. Very cute. We will have to send you a video of this. As always, we are thinking about you all. Emmaline,Jeff and Vinson,
It's been so long since I popped on here to read I am so sad that I have been gone so long. It's sure not that I haven't thought about Becca and I've kept all of you in my prayers.Everytime I see a turtle ,I think of Becca, when Ashley has a milestone I think how cool it would be for Becca to have done that or for Ashley to have been able to share that with Becca. It makes me sad, but I just try to think that she's up there watching out for you all and Ashley and that we will see her again someday.
Some people live to an old age and don't ever make the impact that Becca did, in her short time here on earth. I am just so glad that she was apart of Ashley's life and that I knew her too and of course you all.
We played a game the other night with a bunch of Ashley's friends and one of the questions was " Do you have any regrets in life" I knew what Ashley was going to write and it just makes me cry. She wrote " I just wish I had spent more time with Becca." I know Becca forgives her cause that's just the way Becca was and someday they'll be able to sit and talk about it.It just makes me sad and I know Ashley too.
On a Happier note, Ashley is very excited to be invited to Vinson's bridal shower and is coming home from Appalachian this Friday so we can come together!
Love and hugs to you all,

So today marks the three year anniversary of the death of one of my good friends. For some reason Becca came to mind as well as I thought about the people that have impacted me in such strong ways that I no longer have in my life. I want you to know that Becca was an amazing and beautiful young girl. Please be aware that there are still people out there that continually think of you and do and will continue to continually pray for you. Its such a hard thing to deal with but knowing that God is right next to me holding my hand is what keeps me going. I think Becca did such a beautiful job spreading her beliefs and dreams and that the people who knew her will continue loving her for forever. Please know that you're so very loved and so very prayed for.

I loved that sermonette just as much 2 years ago as I did reading it today. So well written, Vinson! I always find myself thinking about the good times I had with Becca and am so thankful that I got to have her in my life, even if for such a short time. I'll be praying for you all and Mr. Simpson as he goes on that hike...what a neat way to honor Becca!
Love you all!

Jeff, Emmaline, Vinson- Even though Beca and you all are on my mind so very often, know that this past week, she has been heavy on my heart. Oh, the joy she is experiencing with Jesus-that is certain. I am still and always will be so amazed at Vinson's incredible way of hittin' the nail right on the head. She has a gift with words that clearly flows through her from God. I wish I could soak up just a bit of your pain, but as you say, with the pain comes the good memories too. Just know that your Beca is not forgotten by many people. Neither are any of you. In my experience it can seem so hard to see the rest of the world just keep moving on. Know that I paused today in remembrance of Rebecca and your family. With love.

Hi Jeff and Emmaline!
Hope you're feeling OK, Emmaline...we'll be praying for a quick recovery. Just wanted to rub it in that our HIGH on Thursday is supposed to be MINUS 1...we know you wish you were here! :) Also, I forgot to mention on the phone the other day but Rebecca Mae got 3 toys for Christmas...two of them had a turtle on it (from people who don't know the significance of the turtle)...

Love and Hugs,

For some reason your family has been on my heart today. It took me awhile to find where I had saved this site. So glad I found it because You write such heartfelt words. Peace, joy, and much love to all of you this special season. Pam

What a beautiful entry. I truly believe that Rebecca has had a hand in your lives in the past and continues to presently. I think of Rebecca often and your family. Every time I hear the song Word of God Speak, I think of Rebecca. I associate that song with Rebecca when I cared for her in the hospital, she would play that CD while she was in the hopsital. I also heard that song on the radio on my way to my bridal shower in Feb 2007. Once I arrived at my shower I was told that Rebecca had passed away the previous evening. I was shocked but felt peace that, I had thought of Rebecca that morning when I was listening to that song. I never found the right moment to tell you this story but your entry got my thinking and remembering Rebecca and the influence she had on my life.

Have a very Merry Christmas with your family. Love you!

What a beautiful entry Emmaline! I am a friend of the Pattons and have been praying for you all for some time. I will never forget the night that Maggie called and asked me to pray for her friend. Rebecca had just been admitted to the hospital. I continue to check in periodically and just wanted you all to know that my prayers go up for all of you on a daily basis. Merry Christmas!

Jeff, Emmaline, & Vinson,
Thinking of you especially today, Rebecca's Birthday. As we continue to miss her and grieve for her here on earth, may we find comfort knowing that she is singing, dancing and celebrating in heaven.
It's been a gorgeous day here in Minnesota, I am sure Rebecca had some pull to have the sun shine down on us as we brought our Rebecca Mae home from the hospital.

Dear Jeff, Emaline, and Vinson,
We are so very happy with our new little granddaughter and especially happy that Ben and Shannon chose to name their baby girl after your Rebecca. Rebecca was a very remarkable girl and left a lasting impression on our entire family. God so blessed us by her life and honored us with her entry into our family. Please join us in being special grandparents to little Rebecca Mae now and in the years to come. It is a privilege to know you and want to share our blessing as you shared Rebecca with all of us.

Thanks so much for sharing your thoughts with us. Sometimes I wonder how you're doing or how you're handling everything. I just ache some days thinking of the past and all you've been through, but that only makes me pray harder and put you in His hands. I guess I'm especially touched because of the way Rebecca touched her classmates and everyone in my family. Now you, Jeff & Vinson are still affecting us in an enormously powerful way. I'm not as good at putting down my thoughts into words as you all are, but just know that I continue to pray for you all often. Thanks for sharing. We love you.

It's crazy to think that it has only been 5 years...my how things have changed and how God has indeed used Rebecca's life. I have no doubts that God used her to make the change within our class, but not only that, within NRCA, within the Raleigh-Durham area, and really across the world. I hope and pray that we may continue her mission. My thoughts and prayers with you always! :)

It's been five years since I first cared for Rebecca on 5 Children's at UNC. I have no idea how many children I took care of in my career as a RN working in peds hem/onc. I do know however that Rebecca is one of a very small number of kids that touched my life in a way that I will never forget. I still think about her a lot, the things we talked about, and her wisdom that was far beyond her years. I'm so glad that you posted that essay, it certainly makes me think! Your family is in my thoughts and prayers. You're right "they" say a lot of things, and I think "they're" wrong when "they" say that it will get easier for you. My prayer is that God will keep you wrapped in His love and His comfort, and that He can buffer some of the pain that you feel!

Hi friends- I can only imagine what these days must be like, as the year anniversary of Rebecca's death is coming closer. It has been in my mind and on my heart so often. I wish it was in fact not true and that Vinson's "other reality" where Rebecca is still at home and healthy with you were true.
