To Kay's family,
It has been such a priviledge to have known Kay for 47 years. Even when we were kids, she was always a wonderful Christian example to us all. She has inspired me so much during her time of illness. I will never be the same, having seen her faith in and love for, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Kay will be missed so much, but she is making beautiful music, now, in heaven, I'm sure. May God's divine peace cover you all. You will continue to be in my prayers.

I was blessed to meet Kay when Jenni had her second Bone Marrow Transplant and their rooms were next to one another on the BMT Unit. I hate to hear that God called another one of His angels home, but both Kay and Jenni are dancing in Heaven in their rejuvenated bodies. God has a reason and purpose in everything. Kay served her purposed while here on Earth. My husband and I will be praying for each of you during this time.

I am so sorry for the passing of your beloved Kay. I met her over 5 years ago when my husband Tommy was at Duke after being diagnosed with Leukemia. She was one of the first people we met. She was an angel sent to us from above. If it not had been for Kay Tommy probably would of walked out of the hospital that same day. She talked to us and helped us tremendously with what we were about to go through. I spoke of her often to other people and when a new patient was admitted becasue of what she did for us we in turn did for others. She came to see us when Tommy went through transplant and her hair had completely changed so we all laughed at what we thought Tommy's would come back as. I am so greatful for the person she was and the faith and belief she had in our wonderful savior. It is evident that she had JOY(Jesus, others, yourself) in her life and I hope that many people will realize how important it is to have a realtionship wiht our wonderful Lord and Savior. I will continue to pray for you the family as you go through this difficult time. I know in my heart that my Tommy is in a better place and is patiently waiting for me to join him. You will find comfort in knowing that Kay is in a better place as well and she will wait patiently until all of her loved ones join her. If God had to choose from a field of flowers I think he would pick one of the prettiest and the best one in the field and I believe he got that in Kay. She will always hold a special place in my heart.

Dear Kay,

You are a child of the King and deserving of all blessings that our Father so richly gives to those who love Him.

I want to share a passage that meant a lot to me when I was deep in depression, Sept. 2006 - March 2007, and continues to draw me to seek a deeper relationship with Christ our Lord, everyday.

Hi Kay, I've been thinking about you all day. I'm so sorry you have to be in the hospital again. I think it is amazing, you never complain. I hope you are feeling good and that none of the medication makes you feel bad or sick. I have those books we talked about and another called "The Shack" that is wonderful. If you're up to reading, I would love to send you a few of them. They are all paperback. Have Mike or Bridget email me if you'd feel like reading and I'll send them. Hi Kay - greetings from sunny South Florida. Yesterday is history - tomorrow is a mystery - TODAY is a gift from GOD - that is why we refer to today as the PRESENT!

1 Peter 1:7 - "These trials are only to test your faith, to show that it is strong and pure." And if I remember correctly you always passed your tests with flying colors.

Kay, know that you are loved by your family, your friends, and by our GOD. It took me many years to truly understand the power of prayer, but now I believe that prayer can move mountains, mend hearts, and cure illness.

Dear Kay, I met Dr. Raybom this week at L'burg and I love him. The day before my appt., he went through my file, had little post it notes all over my chart with questions. When he walked in the door, he knew me! He is on top of everything, and he is a "now" person. We did a CT of my brain (I had been complaining with headaches for months) and a chest x-ray that day. He called me at 1pm to tell me my brain is swelling and something showed up, presumably cancer. He said we would do an MRI either that day or the next. We did it the next day, and 5 or 6 lesions showed up. He said we would stop chemo for now, get rid of the lesions with radiation, and then get back to chemo. He is so optimistic. And Dr. Helms, the radiologist is also an optimist. I feel I am right where God wants me to be now. I really believe you are going to happy at Laurinburg. I had my surgeries at Duke, and I loved it there, but Laurinburg is so convenient. if you need to talk to me, call me. 910-997-5029. You are continually in my prayers. love, Cathie

Hi Kay, I trust that you and your family had a GRAND time together at Christmas no matter where you were, as long as you were together. I hope that you continue to get well and will be home very, very soon. Lori still supplied my family with those WONDERFUL sausage rolls that we love so much and most of my family was here. Please pray for my sister in law, Leslie Haywood's family. Her mother passed away on the 20th of Dec, so she didn't make it to mothers on Christmas. She had been really sick a long time with alzheimers really bad, but still it's a hard thing to go through and especially this time of year. If you will, just add her to your prayers, thank you. Looking forward to starting back up practice this month, I have missed the fellowship with everyone. I can't wait till you are back with us.

Kay, I will pray as you have requested. In 1972 my husband went to Thailand for a year (Vietnam War). More than anything else in the world, I wanted him to be at home with me and our 3 small children. A dear friend who had gone through some deep, personal losses came to see me. She asked me if I really wanted Bill to come home right then or would I rather that God work in both of our lives and bring us back together in His time and in greater ways than we could ever imagine. I still wanted him home but I knew that God's way would be a whole lot better. I don't know "why" you can't have a 1-day break, but God knows that you have been through a lot and He knows where you need to be. Remember...although we "celebrate" Christmas on Dec. 25, we REALLY celebrate Christmas every day because Christ is in us the whole year, not just 1 day! I'm sure your family will make movies for you to enjoy later but you can also plan to have your own Christmas celebration with Brayden after you get home...tree, gifts, lots of one-on-one time. Brayden will love it and you will, too! Please don't think I am making "light" of these very intense feelings you are experiencing right now because I'm not. You're a woman who loves her family deeply and wants to be with them...God will honor that. God bless you!

I am so excited to read of your good news! God is good! I was talking with my friend, Judy this past weekend. Last year this time, she was exactly where you are and this year, she was hosting a Christmas Open House!! Praise God for all he has done for both of you. She had nothing but the highest praise for Duke, the doctors and the care the staff gives. Judy said that she prays for you daily because she feels a kinship with you and knows exactly what you are going through. Eventhough I can't relate like Judy, please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers and those of my women's Bible study group. I can only imagine how difficult it is to be away from family and friends during the holiday season but hopefully missing out this year will only mean that there will be many, many more holidays for you to celebrate with your family and friends!! Now here's a flash from the past! Becky Sawyer's brother, right?

Judging from the rich outpouring of support you have from your friends and relatives in the emails, I'd say that you are the object of much care and affection.

Judy (my wife), Lydia (our daughter), Nathanael (our son) all wish and pray (and agree!) for your immediate relief and healing from this illness.

Just to let you know that we have some inkling of what you are dealing with day by day, Lydia was treated for some mysterious symptoms this last summer. The doctors said some things that frankly put us on the edge of our faith.

Later, after repeated checkups and intensive prayer sessions, the doctors said, "Well we don't know where it went, whatever it was, but let us know if she has these symtoms again".

Kay, we know that this has been a tough and ongoing struggle and fight for you and your family. Keeping yourself reinforced with the Lord's word is invaluable. We know that "the joy of the Lord is your strength", so know that we all care for you and look forward to a great victorious outcome for you and your family.

We wish you well with the chemotherapy and pray for its success as well as the BMT procedure.

Hi Kay !!! You sounded great today when I talked with you on the phone. I don't know if I've ever told you this, but when I was a little girl in Sunday School, I had a really nice teacher who's favorite words of encouragement were "Hold your head high and look toward the sky." She was a great mentor for a lot of us kids. Be good and I'll call you from Atlanta. Miss you !!!!!
