I hope you are enjoying your winter weather!!! We have been having either warm rain or freezing dry. We are still waiting for the cold and the wet to get together and form snow. Andrew can barely stand the wait. LOL He has had the worst cold. I am not used to him being sick. He has been sick for a week and had a fever off and on since Wed. Makes me wish Dr K could get her hands on him and fix him up. He was crying last night. He is just so tired of being sick. I hope you had a wonderful Christmas. Love, Anne

Wow Mel,
I don't know how I missed this surgery but you guys had a really rough time. I am almost glad I didn't know about it. I would have been scared to pieces. I am so glad things are healing well now. Are you guys trying to set some kind of record?
I hope your Christmas season is going great and you are all ready for Thur. My kids will be out of school in about 15 min and then let the fun begin. Jeff took next week off so that will either help or make things crazier. I am not sure which. Andrew has been sick off and on now for awhile. We had the ER visit in Sept and then the asthma in Nov? and he was home sick again yesterday and two days the week before last. I am not used to this. He is usually the healthy one. Oh well, nothing major. I hope you guys have a WONDERFUL Christmas!!! Love Anne

Hi Mel and Steve, OMG...I just logged on to check on Jake and was surprised to see the surgery was just done and I couldn't believe he fell out of the hospital bed! THank goodness all seems to be ok now, but that must have been quite a few stressful days for you. I hope he is feeling less agitated and I'm glad to read he's back on the regular floor. I'll keep him in my prayers and will check back often!

So glad the surgery went well! You may want to consider padding the miami-j collar with something like padding ie: mole skin. Also a back up collar is a good idea - this would help you with bathing and so that you can clean the pads on the first collar - I am still working on getting a second brace myself! A scarf or something to that effect could be tied around the brace to keep Jake from getting it off.
Many prayers and thoughts continuing!

I am knows as "Austin's mom" I dont think many people know my first name!!! Check out the site, I just had another baby in March and there are 3 pics on there of Austin with his new baby brother, I need to change the pics but I dont have a computer at home and my moms' is shut down with a virus! Austin and poppy just went to duke last week and made out good! Good luck this month when you guys go!! I would love to hear from you!

Jake is such a cute kid. I really think having this kind of website is very important, it puts a face to MPS and helps others understand it better from a 'family' perspective (Trey's is www.treypurcell.com). I'm looking forward to getting to know the boys better if i'm ever in the area! I hope you guys have a great stress free (as much as possible) summer, and i hope the august appointments go well. I am glad things are going so well. I am glad that you can avoid back surgery for now. I swear Andrew's looks worse but last time we were at Fitch's he said it was fine. Andrew is supposed to be having hand surgery July 1st. I hope it will go smoothly. We have him off his ADHD meds for a trial and believe me, it is a trial. Every day he survives, is a miracle!!! He is driving me CRAZY!!! He just put Hannah's car pillow out with the trash and I didn't realize it until after the trash truck had come. Still got his trash fetish. Hope your summer goes better than ours is going. Hang in there. Lots of love, Anne

Hello Irish family! Your big holiday is tomorrow!!! I've been reading the website tonight and it's so great to read about everything little Jake is doing. I have his picture on my wall, from when he first came to Duke -- this might sound corny, but it inspires me to keep studying and trying hard in med school. Noah is SO CUTE, by the way. I love those bottom teeth. Anyway, I love reading about you guys. Thanks for keeping us all posted.

A giraffe looks in my window
At the same time everyday,
He just appears with silly ears,
When I turn on the light to play.

I tell him the things I do at two
While he munches and crunches the leaves,
That are so very tasty too,
From the tippy tops of the trees.

One night he didn’t look so good,
His eyes were filled with pain.
I asked him, "What is the problem, the food?"
He said, "I must explain!"

"My knees are hurting pretty bad
And my long neck is so sore.
I really do like our talks,
But I can't take much more!
If you do a favor for me,
I know how my pain will be free.

CAN YOU MOVE UP TO THE SECOND FLOOR!!!

Hi everyone,
Sorry the leg will have to be re-done, but hope the next time fixes both the out-turn and the hip and he keeps on growing. 2 inches. WOW! Found another tip on helping with the itching. Use stockingette and rubbing alcohol. Feed the stockingette (damp with alcohol thru the chest portion of the cast. Pull from top to bottom, back and forth, around his body. Takes care of itches and dead skin cells. Taylor said "cold, Mom" then later asked me to do it again. Take care,

Very glad to hear you had a wonderful summer camping and going to this wonderful camp to meet with old friends and I'm sure you make new ones all the time too. Noah sure is a beautiful little boy and Matt is now getting to be a big boy. I do continue to check from time to time and it was wonderful to see this update (minus Jake's incident). Hi Jacob,
You need to give Taylor some tips on getting around in the cast. He goes on Oct 13 for hip surgery and will wear a cast just like yours for 6 weeks. Don't forget, school is just a few weeks away. Maybe you'll even get a homebound teacher. Hope your leg gets better fast.

Hi again! I just had to share with you, I think it was the Thursday before school got out, when the kids were meeting their new teachers, and Ms. Honey had to go chase a kiddo down, and asked me to watch Jake, he grabbed my hand and smiled, and I really just felt so warm inside. That sounds so sappy, but really he touches my heart every time I see him. We played on the playground for about a half hour, mostly on the slide, he actually wanted to sit on my lap/between my legs a couple times! :)
After a while he said, well I am pretty sure this is what he said " You're silly". He is such a good kid, really. Just wanted to say hi to everyone and say thanks, to Jacob for always caring. Lots of Love.

Oh my gosh, what an exciting time for your family with new babies! I'm so gland Jake's doing well in school -- sorry he got chicken pox though. That potty training had to be a hard thing, too, if you think about it -- to go from just not caring about when you go, to always having to think about it AND get to a bathroom in time (not to mention get in position, etc). Just seems like something I'm glad I've already gotten through in life. But anyways...

You've got those boys in the lap of luxury, Steve and Mel -- double beds and chairs that hang from the celings?! I had to sleep in bed with my brother until high school. Ha. Sounds awesome, though. 4 weeks until a new brother. Do the guys understand what's going to happen? I guess they'll figure it out soon enough. Matt does look like a big boy, and Jake's adorable in the picture at Church, as always.

Med school is still pretty tough -- I'm still not in the hospital, but learning in the classroom. My dad thinks I should be a pediatrician, because he thinks I react most "passionately" to kids when I'm just hanging out. I'd never thought about it that way before, but maybe it's true -- course, I don't have to decide what I want to be today, but it's fun to think about sometimes. Speaking of doctors, I heard mention of Dr. Fitch in the last journal post. I know everything's hectic in a good way right now, but if you're gonna come to NC let me know!

Hi Jakie, Matt, Mel and Steve,

It's Grammy Cindy (MeeMee) checking in and writing you a note. It's been a long time since I've written to you in your journal. Jake, you have made so many wonderful strides and accomplished so much over the past year. Grampy Mark and I are so proud of you. We're very hopeful that all will be fine with your spine and are anxious for your Mommy and Daddy to hear back from Dr. Fitch. Matt, you are getting so tall, and gaining weight, and such a vocabulary. What a big boy you are--and boy do you love to get on the scale and see how much you weigh--unlike your Grammy! We're so happy that Mommy's pregnancy is going so well and are anxious for the arrival of our next little grandson, Noah Charles. I know that you will all have so much fun together and with Christian Shay Van Denburgh, your new little cousin. He's a precious little baby and doing so well since leaving the hospital on Sunday.

(Stacy, I love your posting about Mar and the Chinese dinner--yes, she remembers you!! We'd all love to see you again).

We love you all so very much!

Hi, Jacob,
I really like your website. The pictures are great. You and Matt look happy about Christmas. You are getting to be such a big boy. I also like the picture of your new little cousin, Christian. I am his great-grandma. You boys will all have fun together. Love, Helen Van Denburgh
