Hi,

My name is Cathy and I am the mother of Colby Barrett who was diagnosed last year with the exact same thing as you. He was 8 yrs old when he was diagnosed. I have not found anyone with the tumor in the same place. We live in Mississippi and have been cancer free for about 7 months. Colby's website is www.caringbridge.org/visit/colbybarrett. I hope everything is still going good for you.

Thanks,
Cathy aka Colby's mom

Wow! That was an update. It sounds like things are going well and that you are staying busy. You definitely should put up before and after pictures of Jay's braids and then short hair. I'd love to see that! Madison actually just cut 10 inches off her hair and sent it to Locks of Love. She looks a lot different now. Sorry to hear that your knee injury sidelined you for a while. Hopefully you can get back to running. And good luck to Shawn on the tri. Let me know when his LiveStrong link is up so I can donate. I've actually thought of doing it myself, but we'll see. Enjoy your summer and try to rest some. Praying that the scans were all fine.

Hi Wendy and boys!

I have been thinking about you all week because of Jay's scans.... I know you will be really glad to get them over with and hear good news!! Give him a big hug for me! I always want to give him a big hug everytime I see him and I think he hates it....I'm just so proud of him! He's a really great kid! All your boys are!!

I'm so happy for you that you get to have some time away with Shawn....it's so hard to get to do that, especially, and I can't even imagine when you are juggling 4 kids and their active schedules! I'm always in awe of how you keep up with everyone....Since the very first time I met you at camp several years ago! I don't know how you do it!!!

Tell Josh way to go on his hockey! Maybe he can teach me how to play...it looks fun! I'm so glad he is having an easier time in school too!!! That's gotta make him feel really proud! Tell him way to go!!!! And Jay too!

It was nice to see you guys on Sunday. I didn't get to talk to you much but I'm glad you got to make it out! I thought it was fun! I still feel bad for Colleen though for being out in the heat all day with the boats. But, I think she had fun out there cause I traded with her so she could come inside to the booth, but she was calling me about 20 minutes later wanting to go back outside. I certainly wasn't going to argue!! I'm spoiled to the AC....yes, I'm a wimp about the heat! Go figure I live in Texas....

Anyway, if you get a chance to read this before you leave in the morning....call me if you need some help with the kids during Jay's appt. Even if it is early!! I know Kylie would be happy to see the boys.

Keeping you in my prayers,

Love and hope,
Brenda

Hey, Faherty's! It's now the end of April, and I keep hoping that your front journal entry will have a new date on it soon! :0) I'm hoping that no news is good news. I want to hear about the Capitol 10K. Did you do it, Wendy? Hope you are all well. Spencer has scans on the 8th of May, so it's getting to be nervous time again, and I keep thinking that it's scan time for Jay, too. If you get a chance to update, it would make a certain family in Utah very happy!!!

Good Morning Faherty family. I just wanted to tell Jacob that it is time again for me to participate in the American Cancer Relay for Life here in Houston. We will have ours on April 28th & 29th. I am looking forward to it again, and I have ordered two of the Luminarias one in honor of Jacob and one in memory of Garrett. Hope you are all doing well. Sorry we missed seeing you when you were in town a couple of weeks ago. Well I better get back to work. Sending hugs and kisses to you all. Love, Lida

Wendy, You need to update and tell everyone about Jay's results!!! Also, did you take a picture of him this time in his braids so that you can post that? Kyle was shocked to see him in his braids the other week. He said that he might get them and I reminded him that he had to wear a helmet for football and that might bother him. So football won out (dodged that bullet! you know Darrell would never go for him getting braids) Hope you guys have a great retreat this weekend, sorry that we cannot be there. We had such a great time two years ago with you all there. Get James to do the climbing course and the drop line and I bet he will make the youngest that does it. Caleigh missed that mark by two weeks when she did it. Do me a favor and paint a rock for Garrett to leave there will you? Love you!

My heart goes out to you Wendy...hockey AND football...ouch!!! You are so brave!!!!! And it sounds like you have much more in store with James!! Tell Josh to have fun playing hockey and tell Jeffrey to have fun at school!! And give James a big hug!!!

WOW, that was a suspenseful entry! HOORAY FOR CLEAR SCANS! I read the first sentence and then skimmed through the rest looking for the happy ending :). Honestly, though, I have heard a lot about how sensitive CT scans are. If it can pick up a speck of dust, you never know what that spot it showed could be. For instance, he could have inhaled a bug while bike riding! Or some sort of liquid- I drank some orange juice once and somehow it got down my windpipe and I coughed for about two days :). No, but seriously, if Dr. Lockhart isn't worried then I wouldn't think a thing about it. And I definitely agree that Jacob is the picture of health- it may be hard to see the changes if you are around him every day, but I noticed at the Relay that he really looked healthy and full of energy. Spencer has blossomed off treatment too, and it is so wonderful to see everybody doing so well! Have a fantastic day tomorrow; it takes someone special to be a great mom but it takes someone really incredible to be a great mom when dealing with cancer AND four energetic young boys! You are amazing. Enjoy your week and I'm looking forward to seeing your whole crew at the meeting next Friday!

Great job on the bike ride! Our youngest finally decided he was ready to ride his bike a few weeks ago. Congratulations Shawn!!! 43 miles is a LONG WAY! (I think I've made it up to nine miles on a bike, but that might be stretching it- give me solid ground and running shoes any day! :)). Jay and Josh will have so much fun doing swim team, it is a blast once you get used to the early hours. I swam on my neighborhood swim team for eleven years, from the summer I was six through last summer, but I don't think I will do it again this summer because I finally have to face the fact that I am almost as long as the pool :). I think my favorite part was getting to know the people on the team, because you form special bonds with people with whom you whine about how cold the water is and who you cheer on at the meets and then bomb with water balloons (epic water balloon fights: one of my most favorite childhood memories of all time). Which reminds me, I will have to teach them about the greased watermelon game because it is the coolest game ever! At first, they will probably not like the early wakeup time, the coach, the cold water, etc., but give it a few weeks and I think they will really start to enjoy it. Not to mention how muscly(?) they're going to be when they go back to school :)! Anyway, I can't wait to see you guys at the Relay for Life on Friday and I hope you have a great week until then!!!
P.S. Jacob, I can't remember if 3rd graders have to take any TAKS tests other than the reading one, but if you do have to take any, GOOD LUCK!!! (And if not, you are a lucky dog!!)

I'll keep Jay in my prayers for his upcoming scans, and I'll keep you all in my prayers as you participate in the Relay for Life this weekend. Ours is the 29th-30th, but if we have some spare time Friday evening, maybe we'll come out to Round Rock for a little while.

I hope that your meeting for your support group goes well. I keep telling my husband that I'd like to be able to help in some way, but don't know how. If you come up with a way that people like me (who don't have a child with cancer) can help, let me know. Our youth group at church wants to keep helping in some way as well.

Hi Jacob and Wendy!!!

So glad you had a good appointment yesterday!! I know what you mean about low counts, Wendy!!! I'm worried about Korey's especially now!! But if Dr Lockhart isn't worried, then everything is probably OK! They aren't giving him anything to boost them, so that is a good thing!! I hope you can find a little comfort in that!! And some comfort in knowing it takes a year or so for their counts to be normal again...is that right?

When I start to worry about all of the bad stuff that could go wrong....I remember what you wrote on your page one day about living and enjoying today and not worrying about what tomorrow could hold....You said that you can spend your whole life worrying about something that may never happen, then you look back and you wasted your life worrying. I think you said you mother told you that... I really, really try to remember that when I'm scared about stuff like low counts. I know it isn't easy!!! Please know that you aren't alone when you are worried!!! Us Cancer Moms know how you feel!!! Hang in there!!!!

I'm sorry we haven't been able to get the boys together and for us to talk about our support group ideas!! I'm so excited about the possibilities, but I am kind of discouraged about it being so hard for us all to have time to do it!! I told Scott, how will people fit a support group into their lives when they are already so busy? We were talking about the best night to have a group...what do you think? What would be a good night for your family?

I don't know how you do it Wendy!! You completely amaze me how you handle all of the kids alone a lot of the time!!! I wish we lived closer so I could help more! Scott has an idea about setting up child care for families affected by a serious illness....I've been told that there will be some kind of child care available at the new Children's Hospital...not sure of the details, but any help is great!!!!

Do you know Tommy? www3.caringbridge.org/tx/thomas
His mom is worried that he will have to go to the hospital and is trying to work out alternate day care...my heart went out to her!! I am going to be out of town for the next few days, but when I get back I want to see if I can help. I have never met them...don't know if I would let some stranger watch my kids, but I can offer!!!! I'd love to watch the boys again for you too! They are really nice kids!!!! I can't wait to get the whole gang together!!! I know they will all be missing Garrett!! At camp this summer too...I'm glad Cynthia will be there with them. She will understand. I'm so thankful for her. She has been there for Korey the whole 3 years and 2 months !!! He loves her!!! Thank you Cynthia!!!!!!!!

Better run! Just wanted to say that we were thinking about you and my heart goes out to you for your worry!!! Just know...I'm worried right along there with you...and Lisa right along with you...and Shauna....and many other Cancer Moms! We'll be here for you to worry with!!!! Cause we all know....no matter who tells us not to worry, that everything is going to be fine....................................WE STILL WORRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Keeping you in my thoughts and prayers...praying for some peace... praying for your heart not to worry!

Have a happy day and a great weekend!!! Tell Shaun good luck with the bike ride!!!!

Love,

Brenda

P.S. Give Jay a hug and tell him it is from me!!! He's such a great kid!!

Sounds like Easter was a lot of fun. It's always nice to be around family, but as the kids get older, it gets harder. I'm glad that Jacob is going to camp this summer, even thought I'm sure it will be hard for him to be there without Garrett. He will be in my prayers.

Hi Jacob, I hope that you and your family have a great Easter. We are having all of our family at our house tomorrow. I would love to get together so that we can compare GKTW stories. We had the most exciting time. Blake felt so special as did Clay and Abby. Hopefully, the weather will get better soon. I would love to host a get together with Korey, Spencer, you, Ms. Colleen, and the rest of the family. I think it would be great if Allie could come too. We have not gotten to meet her yet. Take care. Have a great day and I will call mommy next week.
Blessings,

Hey Jacob,
Sorry I haven't signed in a while; we went out of town for Spring Break and then things have been pretty crazy since we've been home. I just wanted to leave you a quick note to tell you about what happened when I went to see Spencer today. The minute the door opened, Spencer yelled, "AYYIE, COME UPSTAIRS!", and when I followed him upstairs guess what he was so excited to show me? His new bed!! He said, "Spencer has a big bed," and then he pointed to his old bed, which is now Sophie's, and said "Sophie has a little pink bed." He LOVES his big boy bed, it was so nice of you to pass it on to him. Anyway, I can't wait to hear about your Spring Break and I hope you have a great Easter!

Hi Jay and Wendy and family!

I'm really sorry we haven't got to get together yet!! It's been kind of crazy around here! I hope you got your relaxing Spring Break you were planning!! I thought of you when I was running around like crazy! Hoping you were getting to relax!! It's amazing how exhausting it is to run to appointments all day...you know exactly what I mean I'm sure with 4 little ones!!! You are such a great mom to keep up with everything, especially when it's just you doing it all by yourself so much!!! I bet you really appreciate the days when he is home!

I really enjoyed hanging out with the boys the other day! I'd love to do it again if you need us! They are really great kids! It was really neat talking to Jacob. He is such a sweet boy!!

I'm so glad you are enjoying your off treatment life!!! I'm so happy that Blake and family are getting to enjoy theirs too!!! We are right behind you! Tomorrow is the last day of chemo!!! 3 years and 2 months of chemo every single day almost.... unless he was too sick...and those didn't feel like happy off chemo days!!! Those were " I'm freaking out because my baby is too sick to have chemo" days !! I'm ready to join the "Off Treatment Club" and have those no chemo days!!! Just like Jacob and ya'll!!! Yeah!!! Does it still feel new to be off chemo? Korey is so excited!!!!

Anyway, just wanted to apologize for not calling or signing in lately! I think of you guys everyday and hope you are somewhere having fun!!!

Have a great Easter weekend and we'll see you guys soon!!!

Have a good day Wendy!

Love,

Brenda

I was so glad to see all the Fahertys yesterday, what a treat! You guys are such a wonderful (and well-behaved :)) family, and it is so much fun to have you at the clinic. I'm going to hate not seeing you there this summer, but I would much rather have you be off-treatment and not see you than the alternative. Speaking of which, Jacob, you look awesome!!! Stay healthy! (That's an order :).) Hope you guys have a great week!

Jacob and Family,

Thanks SO MUCH for coming to Spencer's off-treatment party, and, Jacob, thanks so much for the Little Foot toy for Spencer. He loves it and is so excited about it. It meant a lot to us to have you there. We are so glad that we know you. It's true what Jaron's mom said at the clinic, we are really blessed to have known each other through this whole ordeal. It makes it easier to know that someone else knows exactly how you feel. Jacob, you look so good! I love your hair and you just look healthy--we are happy for you! Anyway, enjoy your new washer and dryer, Wendy, and thanks again for coming today. You guys are great!

Jacob-
I found your site through Garret's, which I found through a friend of mine's. (www.caringbride.com/in/kameronjohnson) Everytime I look at a new caringbridge site I learn something new, and with this one I learned that people with cancer don't have to feel alone or excluded. You sure have a big circle of friends! My grandmother had cancer, but I am sure she never had a site like this or as many friends as you do. Hope you are doing great, as I am sure you are. God Bless.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY JOSHUA!!!
Hope you had a great time at your G.I. Joe party yesterday! Jackson sounds like a wonderful friend, you two will probably be close for your whole lives. I have a friend kind of like that, we have known each other since we were six months old and we are still very close- there is just something special about a friend you've known for such a long time. It is so cool that you like art, you will have a great time taking classes in high school. You get to chose whether you want to be in drawing or painting or even sculpture and then you can do it all four years! Have you ever tried prismacolor pencils? They are oil-based colored pencils and they are SO MUCH FUN!!! They draw really smoothly, and they aren't too expensive if you just buy a twelve pack (you can also get them individually at Michaels or Hobby Lobby, and the packs go on sale a lot). Just something you might try. Strangely enough, we have some at the clinic but no one ever uses them. (Top left cabinet over the sink by the fish tank if you're ever there with Jacob.) Prismacolor makes good markers, too, but I really think the Crayola ones work just as well. Don't EVER let people tell you that art is not a "cool" thing to do or a "boy" thing to do, because there are a bunch of guys in my class and they are all "cool" and are really awesome artists. Also, the Austin Museum of Art has great art classes available all year, but that's kind of a drive for you guys. Anyway, hope your birthday is really special!

P.S. How is the bedroom/playroom idea working out? Four boys, you are so brave! My sister and I tried that once and I think it lasted about three days, but it might be one of those things that you just have to try so you're never tempted to do it again :).

Jacob,
YUCK, I am SO sorry you had to take TAKS today. I took the 11th grade reading/writing test yesterday, and so I can officially say that those tests are AWFUL!!! Just remember what my mom always told me- that the tests are really to test the teachers and make sure they have been teaching you well, so you shouldn't feel any pressure about scores. And no matter how you did, I've realized over the years that how well you do on TAKS has absolutely nothing to do with how well you will succeed in that subject. In my humble opinion, TAKS is a very big waste of time, so please don't worry about it AT ALL. On another note, it's great that you like math, so next year should be a breeze! Anyhow, that's really cool that you are going to play football, and being able to play like T.O. is a wonderful goal! (Jacob's mom: You might have heard about Owens because he was the guy who had surgery on his ankle and then played in the Super Bowl against doctors' orders :)) Also, it was very nice of you to go to the radiothon, because even if you didn't say much I'm sure it was neat for people just to know that you really appreciated your trip. See you later!

Hi Jacob
My name is Christian Bowman. I play the character Steve on the t.v. show Lost. I have been guided to these pages from Garrett's page and wanted to spread a little Aloha your way.
I used to live in Austin, I now live in Hawaii while filming on the tv show. I will be moving to California in July and will be visiting Austin hopefully not long after that. I just wanted to say that I'm sorry that your friend Garrett has left to the arms of the angels. I happen to have a bunch of angels up there in heaven that I hope will play dominoes with him. Anyway, if you want, you can go see my website so that you know what I look like at www.christianbowman.net. I only have one more episode next week. It may be a little depressing though, so... Either way, have fun with every moment that you have!
Aloha!,

Hey Jacob,
I don't think I've ever signed your guestbook before- I guess I just didn't know where to start. This is kind of a lousy place, but oh well. It was nice seeing you yesterday with your mom and dad, I'm sure it was really hard to have to say goodbye to your best friend like that. I am so sorry for your difficult, personal loss. I know you and Garrett were very close, and I want you to know that I think it takes a lot of courage to love someone that much even when you don't know what the outcome will be. I hope that your new guardian angel helps you find peace, and remember that you still have all the wonderful memories he gave you; no one can take those away. I will continue checking on you, as I do often, and praying for you. Hope that the scans went well on Friday, and I am praying that you get the "all clear" tomorrow and forever.

Hi Jacob,

I am very sorry to hear about your best friend. I know at your age, it is a very difficult thing to understand. You were a wonderful best friend to Garrett and you have so many personal times that you and Garrett shared that you can treasure always. Garrett would have never left you on purpose, and I know he wants you to continue to be strong and to continue fighting against your cancer. Jacob, you are going to beat this thing. You are a very special, smart, handsome little boy that is going to set a wonderful example for all the kids that are in your predicament. You know we are always here for you if you need anything. We love you so very much. With all our love,

Dearest Jay,

I am so sorry to hear about your best friend Garrett. I know how sad you must be right now. Death is hard to understand even for us adults. It's okay to be sad and maybe to even be angry, but sweetheart remember that Garrett would not want you to stay that way. He would want you to be happy and to have fun. Don't worry about forgetting Garrett, because you never will. He will always be a part of you and your memories. I will be praying for Garrett and his family and I will be praying for you, too. I love you Jacob and I am truly sorry that you have lost your best friend. Remember, Jay, that God gave you Garrett and his friendship is yours to keep forever. I hope to see you see when you guys come to Houston to visit. Take care and good luck with your scan. Be a good boy. Love Ms. Cyndi

Jacob, I just wanted to take a minute and send you a note letting you know that I am thinking about you over the lose of your best friend Garrett. I know words can take away the pain you must be feeling right now, nor can it take away feeling scared. It's all okay and know that God is right here with you and He will help you understand and get through this. Give your mom, dad and brothers all a hug for me and know that my thoughts and prayers are with each of you. I love you all. Love, Lida

Hey, Fahertys! It is vincristine that causes diabetes insipidis (spelling?). But, usually it occurs DURING treatment and not after, and Spencer's blood sugar is normal. Maybe it's just some weird after effect--I don't know. Spencer is going to go visit the pediatric urologist and probably have CT scans soon, but the chances of it being diabetes after treatment ends are few--I hope that makes you feel a little better. Who knows--maybe the boys are just trying to make up for all the dehydration they experienced while sick on chemo? :0) Hope y'all are doing well. Take care.

Hey Wendy and boys!

Do you think you need to update your journal?? (Just kidding) I know that it has been busy at your house and you have not had any time to relax. Wendy, thanks for going to dinner with me the other night. I just needed to get away from it all for a little bit. The boys had a great time playing and did very well. There were no fights!! Kyle still wants Josh to come over sometime soon. I was thinking about that house you were looking at and I would put a bid of 170,000. on it. It has been sitting for so long that they just might take that offer. There is another one down the other side of the street that has never been lived in and has been sitting for over two years, it has been a long time since I have been in it but I believe it has four or five bedrooms and a playroom. Hope you guys had a Happy New Year! From what I could tell there was a lot of fireworks coming from your neighborhood at 12:00 so I am sure you slept in today (right, just like I was able to). I have to go pick up my sister, Christine, and her kids at 4:45 today. I want you to meet her. She is the one that made your bracelet. Maybe we can all go shopping one day before Shawn leaves on his business trips. I'll try and call you later. HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! And let's pray that this year is better than last for everyone.

Let me know as soon as you can, maybe I can pick it up tomorrow after the Ride for the Roses thing. Meridith is going to be there at booth 43 so stop by and see her. We are going to be leaving by 6:45 am to make sure we get there by 7:30. Do you think we should leave earlier? I don't know if the other riders are going to be getting there at that time also, so we might think about leaving earlier than that so we don't run into traffic. Let me know. Thanks for checking in on Morgan! It's great to hear that you are almost done with treatment! So exciting . . . yet so scary!!! A few months after Morgan went off treatment, the fear and anxiety almost took me over. It's been a process of learning to take it one day (or one hour) at a time and be thankful for those hours that are good.
We continue to pray for Jacob's total health and for the whole family's recovery!!

Your weekends sound like ours! It just never stops, does it? I'm glad the boys are having fun though. And with Disney to look forward to - wahoo! I don't know if I mentioned it before or not, but when you are at Disney, if you go to guest relations on each of the boys birthdays and tell them it is their birthday, they will get a special birthday button. Each park has a different design. I had lots of people wishing me happy birthday last year when we were there. It might be kind of fun for the boys.

Hey guys,
Garrett had a great time at the house the other day and so did Kyle. Thank you for letting them play. I am sorry that I did not call you after Garrett's appointment, but I knew that if I did you would start crying and I could not handle that. Garrett's tumor has not shrunk. As you know, we will be going in the hospital for chemo. Dr. Wells said let's see how these drugs work and if they show shrinkage in 6 weeks we will stay with the 5-day chemos and not do the one day ones. I will call you later to tell you the rest, yes there is more. Garrett really wants to go with you guys to Disney! He keeps asking if he gets another Make A Wish trip since he was diagnosed again! I told him that you would have your hands full with all the boys (including Shawn) and that you guys should experience it yourselves, because I know that he would give up all the secrets to the rides. He said that that might be better but that he should be there to tell them if there is a scary part. He just won't give up. I can't believe that this is almost over for you guys. To be a "normal" family again seems hard to realize. We are so proud of Jacob and all of you. It has been a long and hard road to travel, but you have done it. Remember to schedule Jacobs end of treatment party. You might have to do that after you get back from Disney! I'll call you later on today. Great going Jacob!

Thanks for checking on us. We do the same with Jacob's page. Here's hoping for a peaceful, quiet weekend at BOTH of our households!

Hi Guys,

This is the first time I have written in your guestbook, I guess I am just a little slow.

Wendy, enjoy the salon tomorrow. You deserve some pampering so I hope this is a fun and relaxing outing for you.

I hope the boys are feeling better after having that bug, it wasn't much fun for my kiddos to have it either.

Talk to you all soon!

PS - Wendy, thanks for mentioning Allie, she has raised the awareness of childhood cancers and in her name alone close to $100,000 has been raised for research. One day they will find a cure!

Hey Guys! I hope Jeffrey is feeling better and I hope that none of you get that nasty bug. I could probably use it to lose a few pounds! I have not told Garrett about having a sleep-over yet just in case the bug gets around to the rest of you. If you guys are all right then I will let him know about it Saturday morning. I hope Josh will be able to stay the whole night. Garrett's teacher mentioned a new student that will be having chemo and she will be going to this student's home to teach her. She cannot give me any information as of yet, but I told her to go ahead and give this new student our information. All I know is that she is in 6th grade. So we may have another to join our group. I'll call you later to see how things are going. Say Hi to the kids for me!

Hey Guys! I hope your weekend went well. I am glad to hear that Jacob went to school on Friday, only one day after his chemo. It helps to feel like you are a "normal" kid. Sorry that we did not catch up with you but it might be for the better, we are still fighting colds and allergies. We had family pictures taken yesterday and had a lot of fun doing it. I think I have talked Kyle into letting Jeffrey "borrow" the Power Rangers games. He said he wanted to rent them to him, but I told him that Jeffrey does not get an allowance yet so he had no money to pay for it. Kyle said you should start giving him an allowance, and James too for being a good baby. Garrett's teacher comes by for the first time tomorrow so we will see how he handles it. Give a big hug to all the boys from us and we hope that we can see you soon!

Good morning guys!! I just wanted to say how happy Carmen, myself and the kids are that Jacob's scans came back clear. Apollo is so glad to be back and able to visit with Jacob everyday. Alexzandra got Mrs. Thane for her teacher and Apollo has an assortment of teachers for 6th grade. Alexzandra wanted Joshua to be in her class so badly however, I think that this might be a blessing in disguise that they have different teachers. :) You and I both know that the teacher would never get to teach between the both of them. Wendy,

Sorry, we had national night out tonight in our neighborhood, so we were at the park this evening. Now it's late and I don't want to call in case you are all sleeping. Spencer's appointment is for 8:45 tomorrow morning, so we will hopefully be out of there by 2:30, but you never know. We may just see you there after all. As for Mike's shirt, I got it at the Nike Outlet Store in the Outlet Mall in Utah while I was there. Does San Marcos have a Nike Outlet? I'll look around and see if I can find more shirts. There was something else in your message, but I can't remember what it was. If I don't see you tomorrow at the clinic, call me when you get home and we'll talk. We now share the same urologist bill issues, too, so we can vent about that while we're at it! :0) Hope you guys are all doing well. Take care.

Dear Jacob and Family,

I am here visiting from Connor Hunley's website. I have been praying for Connor for about a year. I live in Upstate New York, about fifteen miles north of Albany, and about fifteen miles south of Saratoga Springs. I am sorry to learn that Jacob has the same kind of cancer, as Connor.

I hope you were able to get to the Science Museum this afternoon. It is raining hard here, so it would not be a good day to travel.

I hope the new chemo does a good job in getting rid of the cancer in Jacob's body, so he can have a long and happy life.

God bless you all!

Hopefully not until Friday, but you are so sweet for thinking of him, we appreciate you guys a lot! Hope you all have a great time in Houston, if you go. Drive safely, and I'll try to call when we get back from our trip!

Jacob,
I met your mom in Super Target the other day. I have a little boy named Blake. He is about your age, and has Hodgkins disease. The funny thing is talking to your mom we seem to have some friends in common. Blake is doing good right now so we have had a busy weekend. I hope we can meet you sometime soon. I have arranged for Blakes grandma and grpa to stay with him in the hospital next Thursday so that we can go to the candlelighters meeting. So we will deffinitely see you there. We are praying for you and all your friends on your buddy list. We are going to try and set up a list today. We would love to put you on it. Blake wants to know if you like Yugio? They are always looking for new people to duel. Hope to see you soon. Tell mom I will call her later today.
Hang in there; your new friends,
The Youngs

Hey Guys!
Thank you so much for taking and bringing Garrett home from Camp Discovery! I am sorry to realize that I have been misspelling Shawn's name on my website! Garrett is exhausted, he didn't even want to go to Grandma's house today with the others. He sat at home and played GameBoy and then took a shower and fell asleep in Caleigh's bed! I know you feel the same way I do, I am so glad to have him home! Next year Jacob and Garrett will be in the same group and will be able to do more together. Caleigh and Josh played a long time together, better watch out on that one! I just want you all to know that even though the circumstances are terrible, I am glad that I have gotten to know your family and I treasure all the phone calls and support. I have come to know your family well and am honored to be included in your circle of friends. We will always be here if you need us. Love all of you!!!

Camp Discovery! That sounds so fun! I'm so glad that Jacob is getting to go. I'm not so glad to hear that Shawn has to go to Chicago. I hate those trips! If you need anything while he's gone, please let me know! I know how it is to suddenly be a single parent--not a fun time. I hope the week goes smoothly for everyone.

Good luck tomorrow with Joshua. You guys need a serious break! I'm glad that you had a good time at Sea World. If Spencer's counts would ever come up, we would like to go one of these weekends soon. I think I need to get reminders on these Candlelighter's events. I was totally unaware of the Parent's Night out. We've got to get on the ball! We will be thinking of you tomorrow and hope everything goes well.

Hey guys! We had fun at the festival yesterday but boy was it hot! Let's see if we can trade boys one time this week before we leave. We go to the clinic tomorrow for Garrett's monthly check. It will seem weird going there since we have not been there in such a long time. You will know how I feel in few months and it will be a relief. The kids came home from the festival last night and had to put on their helmets right away and start riding! I am sure your J's did the same thing. I'll talk to you later about getting the boys together. Have a great day!

I will be taking care of your brothers in about a week, so that you can get undivided attention with your Mom and Dad, while doing your treatments. I also have 4 children. Hey Js, Shawn and Wendy! We had a great time this weekend and were glad that you could all make it! Garrett is still trying to figure out a way that Jacob could become his brother and Kyle Josh's. I told him that we could not trade kids but now he is also trying to figure out a way to trade Caleigh too! Sibling love is never too great! He even has started looking for houses that are for sale on our street saying you could move there and told me that he wanted to talk to our neighbors about trading their house for yours so you can move in next door. Sorry I missed you Wendy when I picked up Kyle but I wanted to let you know that Jacob was very well behaved and listened and did everything that was asked of him. He is a treasure. Caleigh says she wants you to have a girl so she has someone to play with. The pool is open in the afternoon now if you want to bring the boys for some swimming, just give me a call, my kids are always up to go to the pool! Take care and I will probably be talking to you later on in the day.

Just a short hello, and I wanted to let you know that you, Jacob and the rest of the family are constantly in our thoughts and prayers. I see Jacob walking by the house quite often and it reassures me that his spirit is strong and that God has him and your entire family in his arms. I know that God answers prayer and rest assured that he will provide for all of your needs. Please give Jacob a big hug from me. Take care of yourselves and continue to hold on the Gods unchanging hands.

Hey there Jacob,
Wow, have you gotten big! Do you remember preschool in San Marcos? Boy that was a really fun year about 4 years ago, you were 3 turning 4 and we had such a blast!
Well Jacob, I'm sure you have so many funny memories of school, but my favorite one of you is the name we all gave you, Gentle Giant. You always wanted to play, but didnt want anyone to get hurt. Your a gem, and I miss you sweetie. I hear you have a new brother, I bet he will be every bit as handsome as you are!
Does he like spider man too?
Tell your mom and dad and brothers "Hi" for me and maybe I will see you soon.
Love you,
Ms. Christine

Jacob and Family,

Just wanted to let you know that we are adding you to our ever-growing prayer list. Our 9 year old son, Connor, was diagnosed with rhabdo when he was six. He is getting ready to finish his treatment for the second time. His tumor was in his pelvic area, between his bladder, urethra and rectum. Feel free to email me if you ever have any questions, or just want to vent, I'M HERE! Take care, and we wish you nothing but the best!

Love, hugs and prayers,

Rhonda, Hunley, Connor's Mom

Dear Faherty Family,

I found Jacob's web site in the list of rhabdomyosarcoma children(acor ped-onc page).

My son Mitchell is in there too. Mitchell was diagnosed three years ago and doing great.

I just want you to know,we know first hand what you are and have been dealing with. But By the "grace of God" you will come through it!

Not sure where you are? Mitchell was treated at Texas Children's in Houston.

If you need someone to confir with sometimes, please let me know.We came accross very few children with the same diagnosis while we were in treatment.

God Bless you!
Thoughts and prayers,
Becky Martin

Wendy, You and I met at Tammy's house just before Jacob's diagnosis and Tammy was at my house when she received the call about Jacob. I had recently found out that we are pregnant and before we even started trying we had picked a boy name of Jacob! I am feeling connected to you even though I have never met Jacob. My daughter's school is doing a Math-a-thon to raise money for St. Jude's and I am working to get my son's homeschool group to do the same. Our family has yours in our prayers. Your faith is inspiring!

Wendy, Shawn, and the 4Js,
We can not begin to understand what you guys are going through, but know that you guys are constantly in our prayers. I hope it is of some comfort to you all to know that when he is here playing with Kendall they still manage to laugh and have a good time and we truly believe that will be the case for many years to come.

Jacob, you and the rest of the family have "The Big Guy" (God) on your side. The road will be rough for a little while, but then you'll come to the better part of the road that will lead you to the rest of your life. Enjoy the good days, and when the bad days come, turn to mom and dad, they'll always be there to help make it a little better.

Shawn/Wendy, both of you "will succeed" during this endeavor. You're strong and faithful people. When you do need a word of support or just to talk, you know how to find me. You know I love both of you as if you were my own children.

Hi Jacob and family,
It has been such a long time since I have seen any of you but that doesn't mean I haven't thought of you all from time to time. I am only sorry that it's at times like these that we are compelled to keep in touch. Please know that Jeff, the kids and I are praying for your family. We have witnessed so many of God's wonderful miracles and believe that God places things and events in our lives (some good, some difficult) to help us grow in strength, courage and love. Always keep this in mind and you will be blessed even through those times that seem so harsh. You have such a beautiful family but some how I lost count, please send more pictures, I will be checking this website often.
Love,
Jeff, Alicia, Joshua, Matthew and Laura

Hi Jacob,

I am so happy that I got to see you and your family. It has been a long time since we got a chance to visit. I can't believe how big you have gotten. Pretty soon you will be taller than your mom and me! I will try to come and visit again soon and bring Celia and Chris.

I am so glad that you are going to be able to go back to school. I know that you will be happy to be with all of your friends. If you have a chance and can email me let me know how things are going. Take care and be good. I love you. Give a hug to Mom, Dad, Joshua, Jeffrey and James for me.

Love,
Ms. Cyndi

I just want you all to know that Jason and I are praying for you. Our family went through this several years ago with my nephew who had leukemia. I know the fearful expectation that is always present, but remember God is looking to bless you all through this. I know for us there was a lot of asking why, but in the end God came through and our family was blessed by the way our friends helped and by God’s miracle. God work an incredible miracle and save Luis’ life and the only way it could have happed was by God’s grace and power! It has been 5+ years now and as time has gone so has the fear. Know that God will bring you all through this and know too that we are here to help!

You guys are so brave and stong right now. It was hard for me to deal with and he is not my blood although I feel a strong bond with all "my boys" on the street. I pray that this strength stays with you through this year. Jacob is a trooper and I am sure he will continue to be this way. you guys should not be afraid to ask for help or take advantage of anyone's offers right now wether it be a night out for just you and Shawn or whatever. You need to take care of yourself as well as the boys. Your game plan is good and I do believe this nightmare will end with a wonderful testimony for Jacob. And just remember God works in mysterious ways and one day we will have the anwser to all these things. :)
