Hi. I am so happy that Tori is doing good. Her story is very inspiring and hopeful for me. I am 18 now and was diagnosed with synovial sarcoma when I was 13. I am currently 4 months and 10 days NED! Finally after relapsing 3 times I am getting somewhere. I guess Tori would be somewhere around my age, maybe you could find me on Facebook if you want. My name is Dominique Bigler. I hope all is well. <3 :)

I was diagnosed in 1985 when I was a senior in high school. I will be 42 this year. Keep your faith & continue to trust in God! God Bless You!!

Just wanted to say "hi" and that Kelly and I are thinking about you. Kelly said there was a bit of a buzz in school today, and that we should check caringbridge. Dawn, you are so good about posting developments and giving us updates about what is going on with Tori. Tori, I hope you hang in there yet one more time. I can't even begin to imagine all that you have had to endure. Please muster all the strength that you have and put it out there. You guys are one tough family! Take care, Jean

Hi Dawn and Tori,

I get nervous when I check these sites as I want it always to be good news. Like you said in a recent post - 10 friends and 9 are gone. So when I saw the first few lines today my heart sank. But the cancer free put me at ease. I know the current situation is not fun but so glad to hear the surgery went well and that you're doing better, Tori.

I'm coming home this weekend to visit - my 6th trip back this year. Bonnie, Jessie and I were back for the Hudson, WI relay in June. Bonnie doesn't get up as much so this was a special time. She may go up for Olivias's 3rd anniversary - hard to believe it has been 3 years - sometimes it seems like forever ago and other times it's like it was yesterday.

Trying to get at least closer to home - I am applying for positions in Bloomington, IL which would only be about a 6 hour drive home ... a cakewalk comapred to the 12.5 hours I have ahead of me tonight!

Take care and we are hoping things continue to go well. Say hi to Dr. Clohisy for us.

Hi Tori and Dawn,

I had a friend email me about Laura and went to her site to read the sad news ... but yet a smile crosses our face as we think of the "3 amigos" together again and possibly our Dear Father shaking his head wondering if he was truly ready for this! We hope Libby was there waiting for her as well!

From your site it looks like things were looking good after Thanksgiving ... hope that's still true. We had a great Christmas back in the Cities and Wisconsin. I'm driving back up in 2 weeks for the hockey tournament and see my kids ... and Libby. Hard to believe almost 3 years here in Colorado ... and we want to get home so badly.

Well, so sorry it was a sad event that got me writing. Wishing you all the best ... keep in touch and you are always welcomed to visit out here, plenty of room and we are pretty good guides!!

Hi Dawn and Tori, this is Olivia Simon's stepdad!

I was organizing our favorites and saw the link for Laura's site and went to it ... what a shock. Of course I next went to yours and was relieved to see things still going perfect for Tori. It has been a tough 2 years ... things are good, but we miss MN /WI so much. We've been home several times (me more often than Bonnie) but usually for just short weekends, along with the holidays ... 238 hours from now we'll be on a plane headed home! We've remained active with the Hudson WI Relay for Life, keeping Libby's team together. But have not kept up with our friends from the UofMn. Hard to believe it's already been 2 years, she would have been 17 this coming Friday - her golden birthday ... going to be tough for Bonnie. But we do focus on happy memories and that helps.

Wishing you continued success and our prayers continue to be for that to always be true.

Tori, you are one inspiring young lady. My son is 11 and was also diagnosed with Synovial Sarcoma 6 weeks ago. Two surgeries have taken place and so far things are looking good. You are an inspiration to me and I will hold your story close to my heart as it is helping me to deal with my son's cancer. My best to you and I will be checking back frequently to see any updates.

I am so sorry I missed hearing you on the radio. My daughter Lori said she heard you on the way to work and could hardly drive because of the tears. You are so inspiring to so many people. I love reading your guestbook and journals. Your life and the life of your family has been so blessed in the many gifts that God has given to all of you . Such talent! I pray that the blessings of good health continue and that your next test results are good so that you can spend all your energy on the great stuff that is going on in your life. The Ruegemer family all says hi to the MacDonald family! I wish I could hear a repeat of the radio program.

Hullo Tori,
Just stopping by to say hi - it's been a while since I've signed your guest book but I've still been checking out your web site quite often for updates. I know you'll be having your scans this month and I know you'll get good results again!
Have you been watching American Idol lately? I missed tonight's show but otherwise I've been watching every night. I'm still not sure who I'd like to see win - but I do have a few favorites already. I think that blonde girl is awfully sweet, but I'm not so sure that her voice will be strong enough to get her to the end.
Take it easy and I hope to talk to you soon - Sharon in Brooklyn Park

Hey Tori,
I live in Andover MN and I stumbled across your page by another page. But I just wanted to say that I heard your story on the KS95 radiothon...and it blew me away. But also that...I have been going to Camp Courage for thirteen years. I go for the same session you do, I am just a lot older. I am seventeen years old...I have a blood disease. I think I met you this summer, were you with Tori Lyn Flahavan at the Carnival? Becaue I think that i went on that crazy go kart ride with you, and infinity and I can't remember the other girl. Well I will have to send you the picture. If I remember right...you had something painted on your cheek...well anyway I hope that you come again this year...because I will be counseling! Good Luck and hope to see u! Email me if you feel like it!

I haven't signed your book in a while but that doesn't mean I haven't been thinking about you! It sounds like you and your entire family are very busy! I hope you're not doing too much and making your knee hurt!?!
I think of you each time I watch American Idol. It's sure getting down to the nail-biting end, isn't it? I keep hoping for Carrie, but I think a couple of the others are pretty good too. I know the concert tickets will be going on sale soon but I don't think I'm going to go to this concert. Sigh, it's just never been the same since Clay's season! :)

Hi Tori,
you don't know me but I have met a relative of yours, Berta! She's the best, her and my daughter met at college this fall and Berta has spent a few weekends with us. Yesterday she was telling me your story and I was moved by it. Please know you have since gained another prayer warrior! I have a dear friend who has been at the children's hospital for the past month and a half with her 4 1/2 month old son who is loosing his battle with wilms tummor. Although it is almost certain he is loosing his earthly life, I know Jesus is right by his side ready to take him home. I am moved by the amount of courage and strength one gains when they need it, and it sounds like you are loaded with it! God will bless your life greatly! Keep fighting and living life to it's fullest. Some of us are 3 times your age and not been able to figure that one out yet! I will continue to pray for you and your family!

I am glad to hear that your knee is "ok". Frustrating that you have to have pain when you are so full of life and energy, ready to play ball. So when do you sing your solo and where?
It is so awesome to look at your site and see all the blessings that God has given to you and your family through all the hard things you have faced. You inspire me more than I can say. Everyone should have your faith and zest for life. Keep on with what you are doing. Living life to it's fullest!

Tori- I am so glad I got to meet you at Amy's wake Thursday night - We are so glad you were there for Amy. It was such a wonderful celebration - Amy was such a hero and inspiration to many of us. The funeral service was awesome and very moving - Amy must be so proud of her family and it was plain to see, you also, were a very important part of her life. Amy's dad did a beautiful eulogy. He was especially thankful for Amy's friends like you! I saw Sharon and Jodi at mass - and the little old lady in the green walker! I would have so loved to stay and visit with them - but needed to leave immediatly after the burial mass. Tori, I have not read all your story, but as soon as I find time I certainly will! Tori,
I'd like to tell you how happy I am your scans are clear. My daughter, Alexandra, has been battling osteosarcoma for 3 years now. Alex had her entire femur taken out and replaced with an extendable titanium rod. She works very hard at physical therapy, and she gets around with no crutches or cane. Alex has had two recent recurrances of the disease in the last seven months. She underwent two thoracotomies to remove two spots on her lungs. She is doing great right now. She gets rescanned on Nov. 16th. I ask that you please pray for her. She has an unbelievably positive outlook on life, and her faith is very strong. I have told her about you, and she prays for you too. Congratulations again, and God Bless You!

Hi Dawn and Tori,
Isn't it exciting to not be updating about cancer and treatments and all the other stuff associated with sickness? It sounds like your household is on the go all the time with all the stuff going on. It's an exciting time, isn't it? I think and pray for you all the time. In church a couple of weeks ago, our pastor gave a special prayer thanking God for Tori's clear scans. I cried. Hullo Tori,
It sounds like things are hopping with you and your family!
I bet you did a great job on your speech about your violin. My son has done one or two speeches about his viola, too. Having a stringed instrument makes for a good topic since not too many kids know how they work and how hard they are to learn how to play! I'm still in awe of your learning to play a violin at your age! That's great!
It sounds like you are all into American Idol - so am I. I liked last season a teensy bit more than this season, but then I had a crush on Clay and that made last season more interesting for me! ;) I have always like LaToya for this season - I think she is the strongest singer who never hits any off notes. I thought John (red head) was a nice boy and it's too bad his stay turned into such a complicated, mean mess. But anyway, does your mom let you do any voting?
I hope you're continuing to do well - it must be so nice to not have any medical stuff going on for a while!
Take care, Sharon in Brooklyn Park :)

Praise God, from Whom all good things come! I am overjoyed to read of Tori's clear scans. You go, girl! You go and you just keep right on going and planning a great summer ahead. Our God is an awesome God! He has had you in His healing hands throughout your journey and I believe we have some very faith-driven doctors whom he has given His skill to that have really devoted their lives to treating and healing our kids. I know we are very grateful to Dr. Neglia, Dr. Orchard and Dr. Messinger (St. Paul Childrens) all for diagnosing, treating and caring for and about Bailey. Have a fun end of the school year, Tori. We'll still pray every morning and every night for you!

Your whole family is awesome!
I can't believe that Micah will be graduating this spring. I hope the boys can have another graet boys weekend this summer.

Hi Tori!
I am a friend of Krista and Keith Rush. I saw your mom posted a message on their website. You actually sound a lot like them. You are strong, brave, and very couragous! You are a beautiful girl and it sounds like you have a great future ahead of you as a dolphin trainer. I feel extremely lucky to encounter people like you in my life. You are a great inspiration to all of us!I will pray for you as you continue on this journey.

Hi Tori, I saw that your mom posted on Keith Rush's site. I work with his wife, Krista, in an elementary school. You sound like you are quite an amazing young lady. I am sure that your courage and determination, along with faith and prayer, are helping in your fight with Synovial Sarcoma. Keep up the good work- it sounds like you a great family support system and a lot of self-motivation. Good for YOU!! I will pray for you daily as I do for the Rush family. Good luck. Keep looking UP.

Great news that your concert went well! I bet you had a wonderful time! Also great news that you'll be doing patrol in 6th grade! My son did that at his school too, except for him it was in 5th grade because that's how high his school went. Ha, ha, did that even make sense? Being on patrol meant he got his picture in the yearbook more times than normal, maybe you'll have the same luck!?! :)
I hope you're still feeling great and that things are going well for you. Tell your mom hi for me!

Hullo again Tori!
I was thinking of you more than usual today, because I knew you had your big concert today. (I know the guestbook is going to say I wrote this on Sunday, but since I haven't gone to bed yet, to me it's still Saturday.) I know how fun those orchestra concerts are (remember my son plays the viola) and I would have loved to come hear you play but we had birthday plans for my dad today. I bet you did a super job!
I hope you're still doing really well and please tell your mom that no, my "procedure" was a failure and so don't expect to see any big changes next time you see me! ;) Oh, and hey you guys, I hope you get your makeover!!!! How could they possibly say no? I'm totally hooked on that show so I'd love to see it happen! I'll keep my fingers crossed that you hear back from them soon!

Hi hon. I just wanted to stop in so you wouldn't think I had forgotten about any of you. Things have been more than a little hectic around here lately, but we're all surviving. Samantha's in school as we speak, so I finally have a free chance to get caught up on some things I haven't been able to lately.

How is school and every other little thing? I'm hoping you're feeling better by now. Cold and flu season has been a real pain in the butt this year. We haven't had any flus come through our house {*knocking on wood*} but we have definitely had our share of colds. Samantha seems to be feeling a lot better, but I'm still trying to get rid of this nasty head cold that doesn't seem to want to give up.

Well hon, I hope all is well with you and your family. Wishing every one of you a fantastic week!

Sending lots and lots of BIG hugs and MUCH love your way!!!

How is everything going over there in Eagan? I can't wait to see Tori's haircut..Tori, do you like it? I've cut my hair about three times already. An believe it or not, I've lost a lot of my curl but I think it might have something to do with the dry weather too maybe.. I'm looking foward to seeing you at the KS95 Radioathon!! We're going to have so much fun like we do every year... remember last year when we went out to eat at the rainforest cafe? I think you were there with us.. and Mitchie was there too! Mitch will deffinatley be remembered. I'm sorry to hear that you had strep..YUK, that's no fun is it? I'm glad that your feeling better now though. I've been really busy with work. Hey, I was so happy to see the picture of you and your violin teacher... I always wondered who it was that taught you to play so beautifully, like a Princess! I showed some people a picture of you and me for some reason that I forget right now and they said "Wow she could be your sister." Because of our dipples and dark hair. I think that's pretty cool. Anyway I"m so glad about your scans. Mine were about the same so I can live with that. I can't wait to see your hair cut. I"m sure it's cute. Your cute no matter what. okay doll face I have to run.

Hi Tori! We’re sorry you were sick but hope you are feeling better now! Glad you got to see the Ice Castle – it was on the news here and looks really neat. Aspen should get something like that going because we have plenty of snow and cold weather, that’s for sure! It’s coming down now… well, take care and keep in touch!

~*~*~*Tori*~*~*~

Hi sweetheart. How are you on this wonderful Wednesday? Doing great I hope!

That ice castle sounds absolutely amazing! I wish there was something like that around here. It must be beautiful to see. At first I thought you were talking about the movie 'Ice Castles.' Have you ever seen it? It's a really great movie, but I think I like what you saw even more.

How's your throat been feeling? Is that nasty strep finally gone? I don't think I've ever had strep throat, but I have a killer sore throat right now. It started to hurt last night before I went to bed and it just got worst when I woke up this morning. So I think that nasty head cold that's been circling around our house has finally settled on me. Samantha isn't feeling well either, so we're both acting like sick babies right now.

I hope your MRI results have come back excellent since you haven't heard anything about them. I'm sure they would call you if there was a problem, so don't mind me if I start celebrating your good news early.

I hope you and your family have a wonderful week, hon! Feel better soon if you're not already!

Sending lots and lots of BIG 'Get Well SOON' hugs and MUCH love your way!!!

Hi Tori,
It was one week ago today that I met you! Wow, time sure does fly! I've checked your site a few times to see if there were any updates and lo and behold, there's an update today!
Okay, I have to start out this entry with my "being jealous" again....You got to the Ice Palace 2 times???? I'm jealous! I never got there once! But it sure brought a smile to my face to read that you'd been there. It really did look like a cool (ha, ha..."cool") place to go. Did you see the blocks with the fish frozen in them? One was for real, and one was a "set up".
I'm sorry to hear you've been fighting strep but I'm hoping you're already feeling better. I bet you're still smiling that adorable smile because of the great news of your clear scans. How nice to get some great news like that and have a break from going to the hospital!
I hope things continue going well for you!!!

Hi Tori and Dawn,
Today at church (Mount Calvary, right down the street from you), we said a special prayer with the whole congregation praying for clear scans for you. You have prayers and good thoughts stretching from here to heaven. I hope you get to see some of your friends while you are down at the hospital for your appointments. All of you 'cancer kids' are so amazing! Keep it up. Take care,

Hi sweetheart. I apologize for not being able to stop by as often as I would like to see how you're doing. Things have been crazy around here lately. I've been enrolling Samantha in school {she starts on February 9th}, I've been planning two birthday parties that will be taking place on the same day {tomorrow} and all of us have been putting together a little Superbowl party for this Sunday. Phew! I'm surprised I've had a chance to sleep with all that's been keeping me busy.

How have you been? How is everyone in your family? Has your weather been as yucky as ours? I dread going out {on somedays} even to get our newspaper because it's so darn cold out there! I wish it were possible for snow to fall on 60 degree days. I could live with that!

Well hon, I wish you and everyone in your family the best possible weekend. May it be filled with happiness, fun and tons of love.

Sending lots and lots of BIG hugs and MUCH love your way!!!

Tori, we are praying for great results from your tests on the 3rd. Thanks Dawn for the note about Olivia - she's doing really well, only 8 more radiation sessions (so far uneventful) and then the transplant. Nervous time but very optimistic - I'll have to get an update out.

Take care you guys and lots of prayers and optimism sent your way!

Tori, Dawn and Family,

So glad to see you have an additional site so we can stay connected even better. Olivia is doing so well (as you can probably tell from the last update) and radiation is going very well. We are geared for 2/16 to start transplant. But like Laura's mom said on their site, our joy is tempered by Amy's news and just the fact these kids have to go through so much. But man are they inspirations!!

Looking forward to staying connected even more now!! Stay strong Tori!!! We all are praying!!

Hi Tori,

I received an e-mail with your CaringBridge web site. It was helpful for me to read and learn about why you are ill and to hear about the courage you have shown. I believe that one's attitude and hope makes a world of difference.

I have enjoyed getting to know you this year as a fifth grade student at Rahn School. Whenever I see you, I appreciate your smile and the kindness you show me and others. It is obvious to me that you have a big heart and lots to offer.

I've heard many comments from staff about what a special person you are and how your family has always been there for you. The spirit and attitude you and your family have will continue to make a world of difference.

It is very important to us at Rahn School that you know we want to make sure your school experiences are happy and rewarding. You are an important student at our school.

If I can ever be of help, don't hesitate to let me know.

I'll keep you in my thoughts!

Holiday advice
Heavenly Father, Help us remember that the person who cut us off in traffic last night is a single mother who worked nine hours that day and is rushing home to cook dinner, help with homework, do the laundry and spend a few precious moments with her children.
Help us to remember that the pierced, tattooed, disinterested young man who can't make change correctly is a worried 19-year-old college student, balancing his apprehension over final exams with his fear of not getting his student loans for next semester.
Remind us, Lord, that the scary looking man, begging for money in the same spot every day is a slave to addictions that we can only imagine in our worst nightmares.
Help us to remember that the old couple walking annoyingly slow through the store aisles and blocking our shopping progress are savoring this moment, knowing that, based on the biopsy report she got back last week, this will be the last year that they go shopping together.
Heavenly Father, remind us each day that, of all the gifts you give us, the greatest gift is LOVE. It is not enough to share that love with those we hold dear. Open our hearts not to just those who are close to us, but to ALL humanity. Let us be slow to judge and quick to forgive, show patience, empathy and love...

REMEMBER THE REASON FOR THE SEASON!!!

It's a secret... <hislove7772003@Yahoo.com>

Wrapping Paper

The story goes that some time ago a mother punished her 5 year old daughter for wasting a roll of expensive gold wrapping paper. Money was tight and she became even more upset when the child used the gold paper to decorate a box to put under the Christmas tree.
Nevertheless, the little girl brought the gift box to her mother the next morning and said, "This is for you, Mamma."
The mother was embarrassed by her earlier over reaction, but her anger flared again when she opened the box and found it was empty.
She spoke to her daughter in a harsh manner. "Don't you know, young lady, when you give someone a present there's supposed to be something inside the package?"
She had tears in her eyes and said, "Oh, Mamma, it's not empty! I blew kisses into it until it was full."
The mother was crushed. She fell on her knees and put her arms around her little girl, and she begged her forgiveness for her thoughtless anger.
An accident took the life of the child only a short time later, and it is told that the mother kept that gold box by her bed for all the years of her life. Whenever she was discouraged or faced difficult problems
she would open the box and take out an imaginary kiss and remember the love of the child who had put it there.
In a very real sense, each of us, as human beings, have been given a Golden box filled with unconditional love and kisses from our children, family, friends and God. There is no more precious possession anyone could hold.

"Friends are like angels who lift us to our feet, when our wings have trouble remembering how to fly."
