Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma

In March of 2001.Sydney had woken up with a puffy eye..After weeks of doctor visits and percriptions a puffy eye soon turned into her eye pushing out of her eye socket.On March 22 Sydney was diagnoised with stage 1 Alveolar Rhabdomyosarcoma in the orbit of her left eye.


Sydney began treatment right away which consisted of 42 weeks of VAC w/ topotecan.along with 5 weeks of radiation to the left eye.Sydney ended treatment in January 2002.

Well its been a long time, Sydney is now 14yrs old now, its been 10 yrs since dx. I am so happy an blessed. She dosent like talking about when she was sick or not sure if she just dosent remember that much, which is probably a good thing.We still see oncology at CHOP, shes in whats called survivorship clinic.Blood counts and chest x rays is all thats done once a year.Last year she had a cataract removed and a lens replacement. What a diffrence that has made she went from only being able to see the giant E on the eye chart to 20/40 vision in her left eye. I just wanted to up date on her website and let new families going through what we have, we are out here and there are Survivors !
