i thought i would stop in to say hi and congradulations on the baby i am so happy that he is doing good. i read the update and that brought back some memories and i shared a tear or two but i am fine now. we still think of all the memories that was shared with all of you and lil evline she really did have a smile that was beautiful. she was your alls lil angel and she was precious to everyone. i look at her pictures evrytime that me and ronald comes to visit and it just doesnt seem real that she is in heaven now it was like only yesterday me and ronald came up there and cheryl would have her setting in her lap and she would smile at everyone that came through the door. she was truely a blessing. anyone could start out having a real bad day and just to go in the house at cheryls and see her would lighten the whole day. she was so beautiful. after me and ronald would leave to come home we would talk about how she smiled. i hope that you all are doing well and god bless each and everyone of you.

Congratulations!!! It is so nice to hear that the baby is here. Cheryl I am to having a very difficult time dealing with the loss of my baby Ashley. We wonder about just everything that we lived with them and the ways that each of these kids impacted us. It is really hard to have to let go, when you just don't want to because they are still very alive to you just in a different way. I just wish this was all a nightmare but this is our reality.
Evline will always be in my heart.
Cheryl, do you remember the pictures that you took of Ashley and Evline at the RM House? I know you tried emailing it to me but, I never got to access them. Is there any way that you can mail these pictures to me or email them agin??I would really love to have those pictures especially since that's all I have now is memories.

I am so sorry for your lost i cant find the right words to say but i know that your little angel is doing good now no more suffering and she is happy my papaw always said that when you lost a loved one don't cry and i know sometimes that is hard to do because this is a person that you love deep down in your hearts but she is happy and probably playing and i know that she is probably looking down on you all and watching over you. i read what you wrote and it tore my heart out knowing that she was young but i know that it is gonna take some time for all the hurt and pain to resolve. I know that the lord up above is taking care of her now and keeping her safe out of harms way it hurt alot of people knowing that she is gone but god called for his little guardian angel and he decided that she was the perfect one. we are all still praying for you all and we love you all.

Evline it is so hard to believe that you no longer are her with us. It was like yesterday when I finally got to meet you and actually hold atleast for a second. I will forever treasure that moment. Baby I know that you are in a better place because you are now living eternal life and free of all disease. My desires and wishes for you were totally the opposit but I guess that God only allows what he thinks is going to be best. All we can do is pray for understanding and acceptance to what is to come. Ashley will atleast get to have the picture of you two together and know that she too got to meet you like I did. I'm at a loss.... To be honest, I tire of reading these stories.. too many children losing their lives. Too many hurler babies going home too soon. I'm so sorry for the loss of your precious little Evline. We all have to struggle to find comfort in their pain-free, hurler-free world now because OUR pain is so great. It's going to be hard for a long time, but keep your faith and look for signs... ^^EVLINE^^ will let you know she's OK and that she's always with you. I can imagine my little ^^REESE^^ has already shown her the ropes in Heaven and has given mini-lessons on ways to bring you joy. God bless your family.. I will remember you all in my prayers. cheryl, i'm so sorry for your loss, i guess i cant really say anything to help ease your pain. all i want to say is when my granny died it hurt me deeply and i thought the world had ended but then i started thinking . i thought to my self i cant change the matter but now i got to work even harder if i want to see her again. so now i've been saved for 6months and still trying. because i always think to my self she's waiting for me and i'm waiting to see her so the only way to see her is to make it to heavan. i know in times like this it seems as if nothing can ease the pain except for god. if it wasnt for him i would have lost it. but he moved and i still miss her dearly but i know now she's in peace, she's happy no pain no sarrow, no more tears, and knowing she's with the master leaves me with that peace at mind. it took me awhile to get back to some of my same actions and not all have returned yet but but by the grace of god he gives me that peace of mind. i know i'm just 15years old but if you ever need a shoulder to cry on or need any thing or any help i want you to know i'm always here. i also want you to know that my prayers are with you and so is many of others prayers to. i cant count the times my mom has gave in prayer requests for evline, every time we would go to church she would always say remeber cheryl's grand baby it really needs the lord to move and to heal it. she would also give in a prayer request for you. well i'm gonna leave you with this simple prayer: " Lord we come to you today to ask you to help cheryl and her family lord , we know that you can reach down and give them that peace of mind and strenghten them lord we ask you today to help them with all our love and care we ask you lord to come by, amen" we love you cheryl.

We were all praying to God for healing for Evline, and He provided the truest form of healing, life everlasting in a perfect place, with our Father. There is something very special about Evline, and I know she has touched so many people in her short time here on earth. She will be greatly missed. You are a very special grandmother and mother. Hi Cheryl. I know that you have alot on your shoulders right now. I only wish that I was their with you guys and give you all my support. It's promising to hear that Evline is doing better than they had expected. BUT remember ALWAYS STAY ALERT!!! Only you and GOD know this child. Keep that in mind. Thank you for mentioning us in your update. It made me feel very good.

I know that your Evline will eventually be fine. Just keep on praying and aLways remember that God makes no mistakes and that not everything in life is going to be the way that we want it to be. You know that although our children were chosen to have Hurler Syndrome we must keep in our mind that overall Duke has a very high survival rate with this syndrome and that we couldn't of had chosen any better place other than Duke.

Bless your heart. May God give you the strength that you may need and Evline the healing that only God can give without all these medicines. You know this is all possible. Keep the faith.

Just checking on Evline and praying for her to have things go better. My daughter Tatiana had similar problems when she had her transplant in the beginning. She turned around. The Dr's weren't really concerned. They kept saying that these were really common problems while going through BMT and that the kids always recovered. I am sure Evline will recover. Everything sounds just about right. I won't say "normal" because we all hated that word on 5200 (it covered so many unbelievable and awful things) They told us too that wbc should just about double each day (except at the beginning when they may rock back and fourth) and that is just what Andrew's did so Evline's sounds terrific. Andrew also had a reaction to the vit in the TPN. I remember how puffy he got and his baby teeth disappeared. Wow was I freaked!! Until another mother said the same thing had happen to her baby. It was just his gums getting puffy too and covering up his teeth. Whew! Hang in there, this is the worse part. Love, Anne

Cheryl, as for the ticket- do you think if you explained to the officer who wrote it the circumstance of your life and more importantly, Evline's life, that he/she might lessen the charge??? I don't know if it is even possible- but maybe it's worth a try? Where was the car parked? in front of the hospital or over in that little side area??? I can't believe they gave you a ticket!!!! I'm sorry.

May God Bless Evline as the transplant process begins!! Remember that Hurler kiddos are very tough! She will surprise you! When my friend's daughter had the sore bottom from the chemo stools, they had a cream in MN that I believe they actually called butt paste! Not sure what it was but it worked great! Maybe the folks at Duke might also have that available. I'll be checking back often. God Bless!

What we did for our daughter, Kaitlyn (transplanted 11-22-03)when her bottom got raw we used, destin mixed with nystain and a little vasoline mixed together and coated her bottom with it...We stopped using baby-wipes and just used warm water to clean her..Also I got a great tip from Mighty-Max mom and it was the oxygen tube in her room. After each diaper clean we cleaned her up and for about 5 minutes let the blow-by oxygen dry her bottom.It helped alot...Eating will come back eventually too.Take care...

Please make sure you feel one hundred percent comfortable with the Drs' proceeding with the BMT even though her O2 is still low. Ask alot of questions. There was a little girl in the BMT unit when my first daughter had her transplant and they couldn't quite figure out why her O2 kept dropping. She had that problem for almost a year. She pulled out of it and she is doing really good. Please keep positive and try not to be scared. Know that she is now in gods hands and you have done all you can. You are great parents and she is surely blessed to have you. Keeping you in my prayers always.

I am so excited to hear that things are underway. I remeber so well having Andrew's tonsiles and adnoids out and ear tubes in. He cried for about 2 weeks. I was all alone and thought I was going to loose my mind. We spent a lot of time in front of Duke chapel watching the divinity students play frizbe. They were such a nice group of "kids". I would "sneak" into the library down there, trying to keep Andrew quite so I could use their computers so I could have some contact with my friends back home. I congratulate you all for the decision that you have made.
Yes Dr.Kurtzberg and her team of Doctors in Duke are GREAT!!! My baby Ashley has Hurler too and had her transplant there in Jan. 23,2004. Ashley is now 128 days post transplant and is doing good. Ashley was also diagnosed at 8 months old and got her transplant exactly 2 months later so she was 10 months old. Evline will be fine. I wish you guys would have done that decion before but the good thing is that you made it. Yes a transplant has alot of complications but on the other hand our babies will die if we don't give them a chance. The reason why I didn't consider the ERT for my child was because I was told that it wouldn't really do much for the skeletel part and It had only been out for 5 years. So I went ahead with the transplant. I hope you guys can get Evline into transplant soon. Good luck.

Hi, Sophie had a Hickman line during her transplant and as it become displaced because she grew she currently has a Pic line. It is a worrying to begin with and bathtime are a little more stressful, but after a while you get used to it. As with all things both have good and bad points. The Hickman line comes out of the chest and I had to be careful to stop in going in the nappy and it was more a issue at bathtime. The Pic line out the arm so it was more arkward to get to and more restrictive during transfusions. To me the Pic line seems more fragile but now at home I can just bandage it up out of the way.

Taking blood was a nightmare with Sophie so both were a blessing.

Hi, this is Trisha Athy. My son Aaron has a transplant for Hurlers in 2003. Aaron had a hickman in his chest for about 9 months. It was scary to get used to caring for it but after a while it became part of Aaron and it was just business as usual. I was even allowed to do blood draws on Aaron at home and take the specimens to the lab. It was a scary ordeal at first but you just learn to deal with it. I hope all goes well for Evline. To the blue dominus: I feel sorry for people like you. You should be thinking of other things to do besides running people down. Especially when they're going through so much. This is a little baby who hasn't done anything to anyone. She is precious to all of us. You should be real thankful if you have any kids they are healthy. But don't think for one minute that something can't happen, because it can. To you, to us, to anyone. We should help people not run them down. The last thing they need is to be accused of something like this. We are praying for you. I really don't think you understand what you have done. If you can't pray for us or the baby don't stand in judgement of something you know nothing about. Just for the record any money for her goes on her. This is my daughter and I raised my kids to respect, to care and to help others and not to stand in judgement of anyone. We know how people are by the way they act. Actions do speak louder than words. These people that are coming on her site are a lot of support for us. These are good kind people. We thank God for them everyday. We are only asking for prayers for her. The only thing that will help her is prayer. If the Lord doesn't move we may lose her. She is my great grand baby and she is very close to my heart. God will forgive you for this and so will we. We may not know you but God does. It is a very dangerous thing to fall into the hands of God and go against his people. So we are praying for you and we ask that other people pray for you also. And pray to God the next thing you write whether it be for Evline or anyone else pray it will be something nice. If you don't want to pray for all these sick then you can't help us. To the people who have wrote and said prayers we thank you and God will bless you. 've been follwing up on sice you first put up your page. I'am very happy to hear that Evline received her first ERT and had no breathing issues. I also have a baby girl name Ashley who was also diagnosed with Hurler on Nov. 17, 2003. Ashley already got her unrelated cord blood transplant in Duke University. And is doing very good. When I was pregnant and scared of giving birth everyone would tell me how after you see your wonderful sweet baby you would forget all of the pain of labor. Well I think the same is true for transplant. I thought the worst thing I would ever go through was the loss of my baby (to a misscarriage), but I dont think I could begin to imagine the pain you all are going through. I look at Evline and I see more than just a syndrome I see the gift of GOD and GOD has given you a beautiful gift, she is so very precious. Only GOD knows what is in store for her, and any one for that matter, but I see the love in the pictures and I will keep her in my thoughts, just remember even when you dont understand "WHY?" GOD does and all you can do is put it all in his hands. I hope to be able to come visit before to long because if I can hold her she will put a warmth in my heart that I could not explain. My name is Anne Himes and my son Andrew has Hurlers too. He had a unrelated cord blood transplant at Duke about 2 and 1/2 years ago. I am so glad that you were able to get Evline diagnosed so early. I am glad you kept pushing and that you got a good geneticist. Ours told us there was nothing to be done and we should just go home. Even after he found out we were planning to have a BMT, he advised against it. Boy was he wrong. Andrew is making all kinds of progress and is full of energy. The picture that is posted on the front page is the same day my Reese was supposed to turn two. He also was diagnosed with Hurler. August 1, 2002 at six months of age, the answers came pouring in... finally there was an explaination as to why he had scoliosis, kyphosis, hearing loss, the breathing issues, and the shape of his head. At the time, ERT had not been approved so we headed to Duke for a BMT. He did receive his BMT on December 5 and engrafted well. He was a success... until a virus attacked his lungs.. a virus he would not recover from. On March 10 2003, my little "Reesie Cup" went to heaven to be with our Lord. I miss him terribly but I'm glad he longer has to suffer from this terrible disease. He's visited me a few times in my dreams to let me know how well he's doing.

I still keep his caringbridge journal and I also still keep up with many other Hurler children. I pray for them everyday. I learned of Evline through Allison May's site. I will also mention your sweet child on Reese's and continue to check in and pray for her. I'll make sure Reese is aware of her and ask him to watch over her. She is adorable and reminds me of Reese. We have all been blessed with these special little people God has entrusted us with.

Cheryl, Thank you for your kind words on my Granddaughter's website. We are all in this together so I have added Evline's site to my favorites! Please know that this is a wonderful line of communication among all of us who have been affected by MPS1. You all will find lifelong friends amoung us with support when you so need it.
