Man it's been too long since I've been here. You know we live 4 hours from Poland and 2 weeks ago this past Friday I was there with my mom (my parents came to visit!!). I am not fluent by any means in German, but it seems so much easier than Polish. I don't need to be fluent, but it would be nice to speak a little when I go there shopping! :) Hey you should come visit and then we'll go shopping in Poland! LOL

Love you guys and miss you. When did Kharisma leave for Gary's parents? I couldn't do it! I hope you're doing ok with her gone. Email me sometime!! The pregnancy is going well, not sure if I told you but we are having a girl!

Love you guys

Hello wonderful Hargraves!
I have to confess that I have been spying on you...late at night when it's slow at work, I check in on this website to hear the latest Kharisma news. It always puts a smile on my face to see her growing up to be such a lovely, spunky little girl. I can hardly believe how big she is! I remember so clearly watching her crawl around the 2N clinic chasing balls and making friends.
I hope that you are all fairing well with Gary out to sea. I know that Kharisma keeps you busy, but that is a long 6 months all the same. As busy as you are, if you ever get the chance, drop me a line with some pictures and updates (leslie_choi@hotmail.com) . Especially if you won't be updating this site anymore!

Much love,
Leslie

What an awesome update!!! This is great! If it helps, Jackson's like what you described...he'll eat great and then one meal he won't. Tonight I made roast and normally the kid eats it until he can't eat anymore, tonight he completely refused to eat anything but the homemade bread! (Not that I completely blame him, but come on! LOL).

How wonderful that having the button removed really sounds like it's truly in the near future!

I love you and miss you

What a little spirit she has! I did the same thing to my teeth when I was about her age...it must be a sign of an adventurous sort! I guess she is giving you a lot more signs than just that one, though. I would laugh so hard if she said some of those things to me! I am excited for her to get her port out. It will be so nice for you not to have to be at the clinic every single month! I will write you more in an email. Miss you!

Love,
Leslie

WOW! It's so good to hear that you are doing so well. And Mom, congrats on deciding to take on a Foster Child. That is such a great idea to try this before adopting. I know nothing can take Logan's place, but bringing laughter and joy from another child into your home is wonderful. Plus it will give Kharisma a child to share her life with. I think it is a wonderful thing.
I think of you all often, and still keep you in our prayers.

Dear Kharisma,

So sorry to hear that your baby brother, Logan, has been in the hospital. It is so hard to eat right or do about anything else when your world as you know it is topsy-turvy. Am praying that you can get these eating problems straightened out in the very near future, and hopefully you won't need any more shots for a good, long while.

Hugs and prayers,

Sonia, I am sorry to hear the news.
It is amazing how some people can win the life lottery in spite of every ods and how some people don`t.I still remember how many hopes we had to find a match in the family for Chiara before findind out that noone did and that Giulia our best hope was exactly Chiara`s genetic opposite.
Do not get depressed though. You have in front of you Kharisma, a gorgeous, strong and God blessed proof that things can be fixed.

You're a wonderful mother and father and Logan is so blessed to have you both. He's so lucky to have such an amazing big sister, who's obviously so in love with him too!

Only God will give the strongest what they can handle.Only God knows when having children is over.Never ever let anyone tell you different. Each child with or without a disease is presious in His eyes.A child with a disease is a child to learn from.Keep them close.Your love is what is binding not what people think. Its all hogwash. They all should be supporting you and the Lord will handle them in His way.God Bless

Hi,
Gary, Sonia and Kharisma. We are so happy for you and all the families with the way things have gone we still have you in our minds and talk to Chuck and Yvonne on progress. We will make it over and see you all some time.
all the very best for the New Year and particularly for Kharisma. She really does look cute and full of personality. Ignore the rubbish on the size of Kharisma. Grace Daisy is 2 and a half years old and is still tiny in comparison with all the other kids around. Who gives a damn. they will be what they will be and loved just the same.

It sounds like you guys are doing great, just that eating thing but I'm sure that will come too. As much as she has overcome, she will this too. I think she is a perfect size and if all she has is being a little smaller than average as a complications I'm sure that would be wonderful, too. Kristan lost alot of weight right after her bmt, I think down to 19lb.s maybe even lower if I remember right, which is not much different than Kharisma. She had been up to 26 lb.s with fluid and the steroids. YOu should tell that lady you are just thankful she is alive and with you today and she should be greatful she has a healthy child. Maybe she'll get the picture.
I just wouldn't let it bother you, you're the fortunate one to have that precious girl.

Sonia,
Time to tell that corpsmen to shut up! :) In a nice and loving way of course and remind her that if her child had been through what Kharisma had been through she'd be THRILLED with her size and would not apperciate being told every week how "tiny" her daughter is.

Kharisma is beautiful and amazing and ALIVE...which is the greatest gift! I hope she had fun on her birthday. I know I signed the guestbook that day, but stupidly didn't send her birthday wishes...so here goes:

Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday to You
Happy Birthday, Dear Kharisma
Happy Birthday to You!!!

Okay, well, I don't care how little Kharisma is, she has got to be the cutest little one-year-old in the world. Oh...my...GOD!!! I cannot believe those pictures. Sonia, don't you listen to any of those people that tell you how tiny she is. You got yourself a little girl to hold in your arms and that's all that matters.
Dear Kharisma, I'm sorry I didn't sign your guestbook on your birthday, but I swear, I was honestly thinking about you. Happy Belated Birthday, sweet thing!!!

Hugs and kisses to you all, we love you so much and wish we could be with you.

Hello, not sure if you can break that habit. My son is nine and still grinds. I do know that if it becomes too severe of a problem as they get older, you can have the dentist fit the child for a guard. Hope you all have a Merry Christmas and that is filled with all the joy your heart can hold. God bless,

Dear Sonia;
Well, I know it's been an awfully long time since I've written you. Kharisma just grows more and more beautiful day by day. I know we want her to eat more and grow bigger and stronger, so just stick with it. I know it can be hard to make babies do things they don't want to do, and that's when they are not even sick!!! So I commend you on your strength and perseverance, Sonia. I think you sound like an excellent mother, and don't let anyone make you feel any different!!!

Congratulations on the tube being gone! Celebrate with a bubble bath!
I know it feels so wonderful like they are on their way to normalcy. Kristan did the same thing with losing weight but once she was about 7 months out she slowly put it back on, now she is an active toddler she is taking more off again. Just hang in there and push those calories if she will take them for you. It sounds like she is doing great. Once the cyclosporine is gone she will probably feel even more like eating.

Okay, it has been forever since I have been by and I am so sorry. I am Katia's Mom (3 year old with Leukemia AML). Since Katia relapsed we have been in the hospital (82 days today) so I don't get around Caringbridge too much. I just met another family here with a baby with Histiocytosis so I am going to give her Kharisma's webaddress so the Mom and Dad can come by the site. Love, Tracy

I feel terrible, it's been far too long since I checked in on you guys through here. I'm so sorry!! I'm so relieved you're safe and only had to be evacuted for a day.

I can't wait to see the new pictures of Kharisma! That nurse must have a HUGE baby. Jackson's 2 months old and is only 12lbs 9 oz and 23 inches....Sounds like Kharisma is closer to being more "average" than that nurses baby!!
I love reading about her food adventures and can't wait to hear that she's eating you out of house and home!

Hi Sonia and Kharisma,
I met you at the RMH in Cincinatti and ran across your website. I have been keeping up with your progress and am so thankful that Kharisma is doing so good. She is beautiful. My son Nicholas has FA and is also facing a BMT. He has a feeding tube too. Hang in there and do what you feel is best for her, the drs don't always know what is best for your daughter. You know her better than anyone else. I had to find the best "mixture" that Nicholas could tolerate for his continuous feeder. It is a long process but rewarding in the end. Kharisma give your mommy and daddy a big hug and let them know they are TOPS! Keep up the good work. Wishing you tons of Blessings and Joy from VA.

My daughter Pam has a brain tumor and has been fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My yougnest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Kharisma. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you musn't quit.(Just call on Jesus).
REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Hello,

I wanted to tell you that you are in my prayers and I hope all is well there. We, too have been down this bmt road; not a fun one to travel but atleast it will be worth it once she is doing better. I know how hard it is, put all faith in God; with Him all things are possible and we are true believers in Miracles. We were given several! Read: Matt.21; 18-21

Kristan had hlh and had a bmt Sept. 26, 2002. She is perfectly healthy now; I hope to give you and others hope!

Sonia,
I'm glad that Kharisma is still doing so well..I feel horrible for her that she has a gall stone..those are nasty little things. I had my gallbladder out right after I had Jacob and was so happy to get it out. I hope that the stone passes VERY quickly and Kharisma does not have to deal with that nasty thing. I can understand her lack of desire to eat with the gall stones....

I hope to see pictures of little Miss Kharisma soon! :) (hint-hint!!) so I can see her and just how big she really is! :)

Dear Baby Kharisma;
Sweet baby girl, I am praying so hard for you!!! I want for this all to go so "easy" for you. My son was born November 5, just a couple months before you, and alot of times when I look at him I think of you, for reasons I can't even explain. Sonia and Gary, life has thrown more at you than anyone should ever have to deal with, but know that although there is very little I can do for you, I am thinking of and praying for you all and Kharisma and angel Christopher.

Came by again to see if you had an update on how the bmt went and most important how Kharisma is doing. How did she handle the IVIG? I know there's probably no actual news as far as the BMT goes...knowing how it's a simple infusion...just that it's life being poured into her central line and going into her tiny body over the next few days until it reaches that perfect spot and hopefully engraftment will begin.
If there's no update by tomorrow...I'm calling you to find out how things are going!

We love you and I hope your mom made it down safely and you're able to get some extra rest during the day. I hope that Gary got on the road and is heading this way....

Sonia,
I'm so glad you got the dr to lower her fluids...I remember that happening to Jordyn as well once at Walter Reed...it's horrible isn't it? :(

I can't believe the transplant is tomorrow. It seems like it'd be such a huge event..but we both know how almost not an event it is in many ways. Do they know what time she'll be having her transplant at?

I'm glad she's done with chemo..and forever!! :) NO MORE CHEMO!! YEAH! She's an amazing little girl and you're an amazing mom! Sonia...I know you have NO choice in this..this is your life and you're dealing with it the best you can, because you have to. I admire you though. You're having to do so much on your own with very little support right now, I hope when Gary gets there you can get more rest (well I know at night you won't be..but during the day when she's not nursing every 2 hrs!)
I love you all so much and wish that I could be there with you.

You're always in my prayers and in my thoughts and never ever out of my heart.

Sonia,
Good to see that Kharisma's actual dr got to see her this weekend! As I read through the list of chemo's it must feel like deja'vu...I remember all of them. Jordyn never got the IVIG until AFTER her BMT and was released that's when one week we'd go to Walter Reed to get that and the next week her check up at Children's. It seems like a lifetime ago, but like yesterday all in the same.
My prayers are constantly with you and Kharisma. What WONDERFUL news about Gary!! YEAH! I hope everything will go smoothly for him and he can just get out there to you and Kharisma this weekend. Tell him if he wants or needs to he is more than welcome to stop here for some rest...please make sure he has our number. I am positive he will be more than anxious to get out there to the 2 of you, so we understand him not wanting to stop here...but our door is ALWAYS opened and we have a full bed for him to sleep in.

We love you all and miss you so much.

I'm here. Prayers are being sent.

It's been a while since I have signed. In case you've forgotten I was referred to your site by Christie and I've been keeping up with Kharisma since the beginning of all this. Although I've been reading up regularly I haven't been signing. My husband brings home the laptop for a couple of hours each day, uses it for 1 hr and 55 mins and then lets me have it for about 5 mins each day, which just gives me enough time to read up but not to sign. Just know that I am thinking of you all and of Kharisma and your sweet angel Christopher. I am praying for you all and am hoping that all goes perfectly. I will continue to keep up with you and know that I'm thinking of you always.

Hello my sweet angel girl. You are my joy, my happiness and my heart. I love looking into your eyes and seeing your smiles. You make everyday brighter and night more magical.
Each day I see so many amazing things you have learned to do. To here you laugh for the first time was an honor few got to share. To see that lower lip pop out just before you cry. You just amaze me!
I can only imagine what a handful you will be when you walk and talk. I am looking forward to chasing you around stores and arguing about what you WON'T wear to the mall.

I LOVE YOU MY ANGEL GIRL!!!!

Happy to read that Kharisma is doing well. Glad to hear the drs are smart enough not to start chemo when her ANC is so low, but am praying it goes up soon! I also pray that her spinal fluid remains free of disease, but to know they're keeping an eye on her. I will pray that a donor is found quickly and that they are more than willing to donate and be that perfect match and they give her 80 or more years to smile, laugh, and be a wild and crazy teenage girl, beautiful woman, lovely bride (which we know mom and dad will both cry over!) an amazing adult, and lovely older woman. That she will be able to educate others because of what she and her big brother went through.

It seems as though things are going very well, and I will keep praying that it just keeps getting better and better. Today I spoke at the Community Blood Bank (Topeka) annual luncheon, where they honor their large donators. After my speech, I was speaking with a man who has donated twice (bone marrow) and I spoke of Christopher and what he went through having to have 2 BMT's so close together.
We will never forget Christopher and we will continue to pray for Kharisma

Hi guys, thought I'd check before I got off to head to bed for the night to see if any updates. I'm glad your mom's there, Sonia. I hope you can get a much needed break. I can still remember those long hospital stays and just to take a small break to let your mind clear for a few moments can be such an amazing transformation.
I am praying that Kharisma will be released on Monday so all of you can go home and relax a little and get a decent nights sleep...the every 4 hr checks just disturbs all sleep.
I wish I could do more for you guys, I feel so very helpless to you so far away here in KS and you there in Ca. Please know I love you and will do anything and everything I can from my part of the country. I am asking for prayers all the time and hope that you will feel them and they will lift you up. Any news yet on Gary and the ship situation? The military can be wonderful and horrible all at the same time.

Keeping you in my prayers, thoughts, and heart.

Dear Gary and Sonia,
Christy told me of your situation with Kharisma. Please know you are in my prayers and the prayers of others I have passed your story on to. We serve such an awesome God. I pray that you feel His arms encircling each one of you. Be "joyful in hope, patient in affliction and faithful in prayer." Romans 12:12 If TriCare doesn't cooperate, please let me know. You can e-mail me or have Christy contact me. I have learned many tips (personally and professionally) to change their opinion.

Well it looks like I'm the honored one to be 1st to sign Kharisma's guestbook. There's so much I want to say...and trying to see the screen through the tears.
Kharisma, I had the special honor of knowing your big brother and being there when he went home to Heaven. I will NEVER forget that special little boy. When your Mommy told me that you were coming, I was so excited for all of you, as I know you couldn't be more loved! You're a VERY LUCKY little girl. I've seen your pictures and you're soooo very beautiful.
I'm praying for you and will not stop until the day your Mommy and Daddy come here to say, Kharisma is Healthy, Home, and happy!!!

I'm trying to figure out how we can get out to California to visit you and maybe help your mom and dad in any way I can.

We love you and we're here for you.
