Wow we were in the hospital at the same time if you were on 2N on Thursday. Thursdays are Scotty's treatment days!
Did you see they moved the Day Hospital. Scotty's is the last rm in the Day Hospital. His wall is also the outside wall right there at the entrance of LPCH. Big frosted windows next to the windows in Admitting.
I hope Ali has a wonderful time on all her planned trips. They sound wonderful. Have a great 4th of July!

Wow, how cool would that be if Ali got to go to the research lab and see the slides of her marrow!

When Marielle was diagnosed, they asked us if they could take a couple extra vials of blood, also for research. I agreed. Then I found out that they needed it right then, they couldn't even wait until later in the day when she would have a broviac in. So it meant another poke. I almost said no but somehow hoped that maybe the blood could help so I agreed, even though I hated having her poked again.

Will anything ever come of it? Who knows, but somehow I feel better because of it. (Not sure that's how Marielle feels, though.)

How very sad to read about the manager's child! Too many children! :(

Changing in all that change sure doesnt sound like it was fun........but what a great cause! :) I hope your school raises tons of money! Last week I received a letter from Logan school letting us know they are participating in a project called "Pasta for Pennies." It is a project to raise money for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society! It is probably quite similar to the "Pennies for Patients" since they are asking for spare change as well! :) I am so happy that Logan's school is participating in this event! :) I definitely had to go and scrounge all my change for that one! ;)

Congrats to Nolan on his award! That is awesome! I had to show Logan the picture of Nolan! As you know he is currently playing his first year of basketball! He thinks Nolan is the COOLEST PERSON :) :) and he loved his trophy! :)

How exciting to read that Ali's b-day is coming up as well as Ali-Fornia Day! :)

What a touching letter from your friend! Thank you so much for sharing it here with us. It brought tears to my eyes.
Oh, the mudslide (luckily) closed the highway east of us, and I had to drive west for radiation, so I was okay. The snow slowed things down a lot, though, and it took about an hour to get there. I'm loving it, though. The snow, I mean. It's coming down pretty good right now and we've got about 27 inches so far. :)

Hi Ali,
My name is Paul and I am a Team in Training volunteer determined to help raise the money and awareness to cure all these blood borne cancers. I became involved about 5 years ago when my dad was diagnosed with aml. This was just too ironic as he was an oncologist, hematologist that fought these diseases for his patients for 47 years. His passion became his fate. He was such a caring, compassiate man and I had to keep his spirit here still helping those fighting these cancers. THis is how I continue his work in some way. Thus, my involvement with Team in Training. I am currently participating in my 9th event. I ran the Dublin marathon in Ireland this past October which was quite emotional. I want you to know you now have the Michigan Team in Training group sending you lots of energy. Continued good health and enjoy school.

We have the dates on the calendar for the Relay for Life and plan to be there again this year. We had a lot of fun last year, but I hope this year it's a bit cooler.

Marielle still talks about how she "won" the race and got a medal for it. I asked her if she wanted to go to the Relay again and she said, "I will love to go again".

Samantha was in hospital around Valentine's and received a similar bag of goodies from a local Angels Work group. She may not be able to read yet, but she loved it all the same and was very anxiously watching me pack our stuff as we left the hospital to make sure I included her "Tines".

Hi Marey and Ali,

My name is Lisa and I wanted to share my story in hopes that it would provide support and hope to Ali and many other teens who are facing or who have faced leukemia. I was diagnosed in 1979 at the age of 15 (yes, I am 43). Back then there was little hope for a cure and limited treatments. I was one of the first to use methotrexate (sp?) and many other chemos that are still in use. Unfortunately, I did relapse 1 1/2 years after completing my treatment. Later I was told that the medical staff was shocked that I remained in remission for so long. I was put on the high dose methotrexate protocol (pretty much the same one that is used today) but my parents were told that there was little to no hope for a cure and they should prepare for my death. Needless to say, the doctors were wrong. Like I said, I am 43, married to my high school sweetheart and have 3 wonderful kids. If there are teens (or parents of kids) with ALL that would like to contact me, feel free. I believe that I survived for a reason (which is still unknown to me) but do feel that through my tradegy God has given my the gift of compassion and wants me to reach out to others. I will continue to pray for Ali and those kids who are suffering.

Wouldn't it be nice if hospital administrators cared as much about their "customers" as the doctors, nurses, technicians, and child life staff care about their patients and families! It would probably be enough if they just tried to do their jobs right.

I hope readers will heed your call for blood and platelet donations. Platelets take a little longer, but you can give them every two weeks and still give blood.

There's also a shortage of platelets. There's the sweetest boy on the east coast who's platelet dependent and there aren't any to give him right now. I can't donate anymore (long story) but used to do it every two weeks! You get to relax and watch a movie in peace and quiet! Then get a snack afterwards! What more could you want?!

As if going through the whole being a parent of a child with cancer isn't enough, now, years later, you get to deal with messed up insurance crud. Sheesh!

Ok, I have to admit, when Marielle was first diagnosed, I found myself wanting to write cancer with a capital C. I guess because I felt it was such a huge presence in our life. But I fought that urge and now, take that, cancer, I also never want to capitalize the letter c in cancer.

So, what kind of new car did you get?

I am so sorry to read about the collections due to an error made by your insurance company! That is awful and I am sure a pain in the neck! I truly hope that this problem will be resolved soon!

We had a few bills go to collection but unfortunately it was our fault! This was at the beginning of my son's diagnosis! The bills were coming in like crazy and we just couldnt keep up and unfortunately a few made it to collection before we were able to pay them off! I was so upset and it was our fault so I can only imagine how you are feeling!

Marey...the unmitigated gall of these insurance companies...truly makes one wish some *unthinkable* acts of unpleasantries upon them!!! Im so glad the weather is warming up for ya'll! :) Wow~ I didnt know you lived in Utah! What part? I lived in Utah when I was a teenager- moved to Colorado when I was 19! I lived in Salt Lake City! I love Utah and always dreamed I would go back but it never happened! :) It's an absolutely beautiful state!

Wow! Ive got a lot of wows going on with this message! :) I just noticed that! :) Anyways, 17 points and countless rebounds! That is awesome! Sorry about the final score but it sure sounds like Nolans team played hard! Logan just started basketball a few weeks ago! It is just a blast watching him play! He still doesnt quite get the dribbling and has not scored as of yet *They have had two games so far* but he loves it and that is what is important! :)

I am the grandmother of Joshua Maligro who has AML. He and Harrison have the same ethnic mix. I am working hard to get more marrow drives and more education about the importance of cord blood donations. There is a place to donate cord blood free, however the OB/GYN will charge to do the extraction. We need DRs to not charge if this is going to the NDMP registry!!
Im am so happy to read a success story like your daughters.
To anyone reading:

Unfortunately, many of us are unfamiliar with bone marrow transplantation until we are pushed into it, if not by ourselves, then by a loved one. Hello, my name is Allie and I have been following Ali for quite some time now. I am saddened as well to hear of all the passing here on caring bridge. I didn't know Catie, but I had been following Baby D for a long time as well. I messaged them today sending my thoughts and prayers, but upset with myself for putting signing the gb after all that time until now. I decided that when I visit someone now, I will sign and say that I was there. So HERE I AM!!! I'm always so happy to here how well Ali is doing. You're family has been in my prayers for a long time too. I hope she is getting the most out of her college experience! I just graduated from college last May and regret not taking full advantage of all the social opportunities. There are days I wish I was back there, and there are days I am glad that I don't have to deal with it. I hope you are all off to a great start this year, it sounds like you are! A question about your valentines... I babysit for a little boy named Brady and he was in the hospital 3-4 weeks ago. He got Gillan Barrae syndrome. His body produced too many anti-bodies after having the flu and they attacked his nervous system leaving him partially paralyzed. He recieved platlets (only from caringbridge do I know what that means) and he is now home. He turns 3 in one month and has to learn to move all over again. He can sit up on his own and is starting to roll over too. It is scary to know that his little sister can do more than he can right now, but he certaintly is on the road to recovery. I know he doesn't have cancer, but I didn't know if your Cali Ali Valentines can be sent to him too? I know he loves getting mail. I'm glad I finally signed the family guestbook of Ali's. God Bless!

Hi All, I Am so glad to get back to my computer after not having it for 60 days, and to see that you all are doing sooooo well. We have as usual been soooo busy with the whole family!!! Sweet Little Madison has put soooo much excitement into an already incredible schedule I don't know how I always find only enough time left in my day to sit and realize how bad I want to "HOLD her TIGHT", but FL is not just a drive away, and I did get to spend 8 of her first 12 weeks with her!!!!!!!!! I just can't tell you the unbelievable LOVE and BLESSING it is to have a GRANDdaughter, especially when only 7 years ago we were told by doctors that we might not even have her mother more than another 2 weeks!!!! I know exactly what you mean when you say you just don't feel like you are doing enough for ohers as the world moves on while they are in such pain watching their children suffer and fight for their lives!!!!!WOW--so on Thurs this past week Arin(my 19 y/o) and I went and gave blood too!!!!! We just had Keri's Grandma diag'ed with Stage 4 B-Cell Lymphoma. She will be getting her 2nd round of chemo this Mon., from our VERY special hero, Dr. Don Stevens. He has given her the confidence at 80 to fight her disease with the same efforts Keri gave it 7 yrs ago. I think the fact that she got to hold Miss Madison(her 1st GREAT GRANDchild) over the Holidays made her realize what the fight was all about, in a very different way than she ever even had while Keri was fighting it!! I am soooo sorry about Baby Donovan and wish you all Loving comfort in the knowledge of the fact that he will soon get to go home to rest in peace with his eternal Father. Hope to type to you again soon and maybe send pics of Madison Lee Ann. She is an absolute BLESSING from God in MANY lives!!!!!!!!!

Came by this morning to say hello........

Sounds like a frustrating time for Nolan and you.. aghhhhhh!

That happened to Danny just before Christmas someone

broke into his parked truck.

After along day at work and coaching, Danny and Erin went to a "Free" mid week movie

only to return to having stereo, cell phone and set of keys stolen and a broken window.

When Erin called Danny's cell number some guy answered it!!!!!!!!!!!! WE know how you feel.

The set of keys .....we're school property ( class room, gym etc) , once Danny reported that

the High school he teach's at had to have all those lock's changed aghhhhh............we called

and canceled that cell number ................. a hassle yes, but in the scheme of things no big deal....

We understand how you feel ..........on a happy note it's great to start a new year filled with

Hope, Health and Happiness. How very Blessed we are to have wonderful young adult kids who are

making a difference in this world..........

You discovered our web-site, and I just love your pictures! And I applied for Quilts of Love for my daughter Nicole also! Nicole, is 13yrs old, she has a twin sister, her name is Paige. Nicole was diag, less than 4 months ago with Osteo sarcoma tumor. Her surgery was very successful and we have a ways to go but doing everything possible to stay POSSITIVE and it doesn't seem to be easier, it gets even harder. Wow, so much stuff happening all at once. Yes, sometimes you just do have to take a deep breath and remember it could be so much worse.

She had a broviac, too.". She says that Ali is a big girl now. I hope it means Marielle is visualizing herself as a big girl, with leukemia all gone, too.

I'm so sorry about your crappy day... ugh! I'm so bummed for Nolan losing his Ipod. That really stinks. Hope the van's okay, too.
I'm just finishing a short round of dex here and it has made me feel so funky that I can really sympathize with all the steroid blast stories I've heard on so many caringbridge sites. I've been surprised to have a little appetite but I'm alternately moody and tearful and depressed, along with the everlasting fatigue. Ugh... Praying things are going better for all of us very soon. What a wonderful fundraiser, a fantastic response. It is probably too late to tell you but the Post Office delivers those Priority Mail boxes (in different sizes) to your door-step for free and the tape too. You can order them on-line. I did that a few years back and had them in two days. Oh well, at least you know they are free. So sorry that you had to catch that kid's cold :( especially when you are so busy but kudos to your helpers!! Merry Christmas and God bless your family.

Marey~ you have done so many things to support Childhood cancer. You are my biggest inspiration.....truly! I definitely understand your needing to take a break! I have just signed up for the Relay for Life! I have done the LTN for the last two years but this is my first Relay so I am not sure what to expect! If I have any questions, can I ask you? I hope you dont mind! :)

I think what you are doing for both Noah and Baby D is AWESOME! You are truly such an inspiration to me! The plates are GREAT! I love it!

I didnt even realize someone had to put a code in to leave a message on my son's cb page until you wrote about it in a message! How strange! I have no idea why they did that! Hmmm! I guess it's a good thing if it will help keep spammers away!

Wow, what cute plates and a great idea!! I completely understand about cutting back on the fundraising/awareness efforts....Doug and I have put TNT on hold too, training would mean Andrew couldnt participate in the things we have prayed for him to do (sports, birthday parties, etc.) Ali's successes are a great way to build awareness, reminding the world that these kids have dreams that deserve living.

Thank You so much for stopping by Scotty's website..we love meeting new friends! It is a small world isn't it? So Scotty is going to the same Day Hospital that Ali did? We love it, we love Scotty's nurses...the drive from Modesto is the worst part but I am use to it and will do whatever I need to for Scotty's treatment. You guys are amazing and the bike rides are way too cool! We just got Scotty the most awesome Bike trailer to ride in. Ali sounds like a very strong girl, I'm glad she is doing so well! and Nolan, if he doesn't have a girlfriend I know plenty here in the valley looking for a great guy like him!
