I'm so glad I found Micah's site. We had a baby who died at 4 months old with "only" 2 in the hospital. I could relate to that bone-crushing exhaustion. Adam had a 5 year old brother, Henry who is now almost 10! We adopted our daughter Nina 18 months after Adam's death. Susan, Thank you so much for registering Micah on the Friend's site. Thank you also for your incredible journal entry. I don't know if you knew, but i'm in my last semester of seminary to become a Lutheran pastor. For my essay to be approved for ordination, I used Luther's concept of the hidden God. After his daughter died, he also wrote at great length about the times when God seems hidden. It is in those times people wonder whether or not God is truly present. Luther wrote about how even during the darkest and loneliest moments of our lives, God is there, whether we feel God or not. I have always found that concept to be a tremendous comfort. Please know I am keeping your family in my prayers. Never hesitate to let me know if there is anything we at the Friend's site can do for you.

When my kids were younger I used to read the book "Kitty, My Rib" a fictionalization of the life of Kathryn Luther and her family. Luther used to call her that. I'd do fine until I got to the deaths of their two children, Luther's and finally Kathryn's. It's a wonderful book.

Noone thinks that it is time to get over a broken leg while it is still broken so how can you possibly mend your own heart. Only God can do that and only on his time. Still missing all of you a lot! Last year we walked in our local "Light the Night" walk for children with blood cancers for Micah. This year we walked for Braden. It brings back the sweetness of the love along with the obvious sadness. However, at the walk (which John and I walked whereas last year Emily walked with me) we bumped into a teacher who had had 4 cancer treatments and was heading off for a transplant! She had been our "partner" for a bone marrow donor drive back in Aug. '05. She looked very good and said that she had been told she would never find a match. Not only did they find a near perfect match, but she will be going into this at age 44 which the docs are comfortable with.

Wow Susan, I have not gone through the death of a child, but I do have some of the understanding and same feelings having a terminal child who has gone through transplant. Who has the mentality of a 10 - 14 month old baby yet she is almost 4. Her 2 year old sister treats her like her baby, knows somehow that she is not capable of the same things. It hurts as a parent and in that way I grieve for the child that she is not, but I still have her. I cannot imagine your pain at not being able to see your angels little face anymore.
Your message was very couragious and I couldn't agree more with what you are saying. Our total purpose in this World is Glorify God. You have been a shining light to many Doctors and other families.
Let yourself greive and you are doing great, I feel like a shell of the person that I used to be and I have not gone through all that you have.

I've seen so many go through losses and what I've seen is the first year is actually easier (if you can believe that) because for the most part you're still in shock and just hanging on and trying to get through each day. Once that year is over and the second one starts, it can hit full force that this is it. Your little one ISN'T ever coming back and with it depression can hit full force. Saying extra prayers for your family right now! And happy birthday, Matthew!!!!
Some of the passages in Isaiah sound like they came from the N.T. This is one of them. Still here praying!

It made me so happy to see that you were celebrating Micah's birthday. We will never, ever forget all of you. Simply put, we love you! And I know that puppy will too.
One of the first things Emily wanted to do was get a dog. Shortly after the doctors here told her it would be O.K. we were walking downtown after church when confronted with an adorable 1 year old beagle/sheltie mix with a sign around her neck. It said, "I need a home." Of course, she had some people with her, but we could barely focus on them. This adorable, fluffy tri-color dog with "mascara" around her big beautiful eyes was more than we could resist. We had a two syllable response, "Uh,oh." We went home and convinced John that she was perfect, and what a sweetheart she has been! So, congratulations!!!

Wow. Imagine being a 2 year old in Heaven! I know, we don't know how 'old' Micah is now that he is with the Lord, but can you imagine all the fun romping around?
