Doyle’s Story

Site created on August 19, 2020

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

On August 12, Doyle Sager, Lead Pastor at First Baptist Church, Jefferson City, Mo, was diagnosed with lung cancer.

On August 17,  Doyle met with his oncologist. The lung cancer is stage 4 and has spread to the liver, bone, spleen, and two lymph nodes. Chemotherapy will begin soon, and biopsies taken to determine the exact approach to be used in containing the cancer.

Janet and Doyle are trusting God through this difficult time and invite you to pray with them and for them. Thank you does not begin to say how they feel about the outpouring of love and support their family has received. Please know Doyle and Janet are simply unable to respond to each expression of love, though each and every one of them is cherished greatly.

Journal entry by Tamara Everly

There have been some lovely articles and press releases about dad written since his passing.  I thought it would be good to share a few links with you in one location.  I have included the Jefferson City News Tribune article which posted today, his obituary with Freeman Mortuary/Funeral home, an article by Baptist News Global, a CBF a blog by executive coordinator Paul Baxley, a wonderful tribute to dad/reflective blog post written by two of his associate pastors for Baptist Women in Ministry, and a beautiful landing page set up by FBCJC (including information about services, a memorial set up in his name, etc.).
We are grieving deeply and there is much to do.  Each day, we put one foot in front of the other.  That is all we know to do for now.
Much love,
Tamara
