I just wanted to take a moment to give a much overdue update on what has been a crazy, but blessed few months.
We have made multiple trips to Vandy for tests, evaluations and to meet with the transplant team. Initially the team wanted to get Caleb listed as soon as possible. That meant weaning him down to a low level of steroids, continuing the anti-rejection meds and getting him stronger physically. Caleb took on this last challenge with a vengeance and has worked his tail off the past few months to build strength. The hard work has paid off—he feels really good. The doctors at Vandy are very pleased with his progress, and while they assure us, we still are facing an uphill battle, they are comfortable giving us time. Transplanted lungs have a much shorter lifespan than other organs, so the longer we can wait before starting that clock, the better.
All that to say, we continue to make frequent trips to Nashville, do the physical and respiratory therapy that could possibly improve his lung function, and pray for God’s healing hands to perform a miracle.
Depending on your bracket, you may be enjoying March madness. However, in Kentucky it’s more accurately now “March Sadness”.
❤️ Joni
