Dear friends, students, alumni, staff, and faculty. We all know Casey. He has roamed our community for decades now; he knows the trails, the trees, the offices, the classrooms, and at one time or other I’m sure he has been in every space on campus. More importantly, Casey knows us. He has listened to us, shared stories with us, advised us, and helped many of us find our place at Warren Wilson. He has been here at joyous times and at difficult times and he has never hesitated to be here..to really BE HERE…and to remind us to think carefully about what we do here every day.
As some of you know, Casey, with his love Rebecca at his side, has struggled mightily against bladder cancer for months. It is now time for us to let Casey and Rebecca know how much we care about him. He has been in the hospital for the past few days receiving palliative radiation treatment to reduce the pain caused by tumors that have spread into his spine. On Friday, Rebecca (assisted by Hospice) will bring him home where he can be among friends and family and where he can watch his garden and be with his chickens and his duck, and where he can appreciate each day of his incredible life. Today, our thoughts and memories are powerful and Casey and Rebecca welcome you to visit at the hospital or at their home. Be aware that he is weak and may not have much energy to speak but he is eager to see everyone, especially his students with whom he has shared his life for nearly 25 years. Peace
