My poor Ryan can not catch a break. While I was at a picnic with the other kids, his feed bag leaked and then his tpn pump alarmed with 15min left to go. His line occluded and the inner membrane broke. We hustled to Riley and he went to the OR right away for a new line. Dr. B(Keely's doc) was finishing up a case and she came to the ER to attempt removing the clot. When she saw it bulge, she knew it had to be replaced. He had this line 7mos, 4 days(the longest so far). We were soo lucky on a Sunday night that an anesthesiologist was still there finishing a case. Otherwise, they would have put in a temp line and we would've waited till morning for the surgical crew to arrive. We made it home at 4a.m. today. He has a lot of scar tissue build-up and I think from what the doc said, access sites are becoming limited. Let's hope this line lasts till he is tpn-free. We did get the Bard CVL, and not a Cook product. I am excited about that. He is quite onry today with pain. His feeds of course are only pedialyte at 20mls/hr. I will attempt to introduce formula this afternoon. Thanks Lisa and Jen for my therapy sessions on the way to Riley!!!
