Sorry! I failed in my attempt to keep posting regularly. We have been busy each day with Mairissa's PT and massage therapies, school, and the other kids activities. The sore on Rissa's hip I mentioned in the last post didn't heal, and actually ended up leaving her bone exposed, so we currently find ourselves in Seattle, yet again, where she will be having surgery tomorrow (Wed). They will be shaving the bone down and creating enough room to allow the skin to be pulled together and surgically closed. This skin isn't really the healthiest because it is still recovering for the harsh effects of radiation. The worst part of it is we will miss Danny's birthday on Friday and possible Mollie's on Sunday. However, with all the things that could have gone wrong with Mairissa's hip surgery, this is one that can be taken care of pretty easily. Luckily she has been on an antibiotic for a few weeks so even though the bone is exposed, there is not infection. After surgery they will keep her on IV antibiotics as well. On our trip here a few weeks ago, Mairissa and I took a detour to Yakima to see Shayla (the beautful girl in the picture with Riss on the front of her journal). You would be amazed at this young lady, as well as her family, as they have dealt with her cancer. Shayla seems be a taller version of Mairissa, not only in looks, but also with her love for family, friends, sports, and a twinkle in her eye that tells you she is a fighter. Her sister Sadie and Quinn also have a lot in common, including their love for their best friends/sisters. I was able to have a great visit with her parents, whose friendship I cherish. If you want to know more about Shayla and what a remarkable person she is, visit her caringbridge (caringbridge.org/visit/shayla-la). FYI: Mairissa has posted pictures of the Relay for Life on photobucket.User name is mmpeoples. Password mairissa
