I have Myelodysplastic Syndrome. MDS is a rare blood cancer. This disease causes low blood counts in any or all of the three blood cells. Officially they have given me a prognosis of 9 - 18 months. I cannot and will not accept that. I need to be around to take my babies bullhead fishing!

I cannot defy the diagnosis, but I do plan to defy the verdict.

We had the whole family here this weekend. My sister flew out from Denver. Barry's brother and niece drove up from MO, and the rest of the family all drove over for the get together. We got in some boating, swimming, casino trip, and lots of good food.

Unfortunately Barry picked up some kind of bug and wasn't feeling the best. He coughed and had a very bad sore throat and his fever was up and down.

We go to Fairview on Monday. Barry will be admitted to begin the "big dog" chemotherapy. He will be taking two drugs, Ara-C, and Idarubecin. These are standard for AML (acute myeloid leukemia). We don't know much more than that, but I will update as we learn more. Thanks for checking in and keep the prayers going up for Barry. We love you all!
