CREATE A PEPPER AT CHILI'S TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER!!!!

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Chili’s Grill & Bar® announced the kick-off of their fifth annual Create-A-Pepper to Fight Childhood Cancer campaign. Now through September 30, Chili’s restaurants around the country and, for the first time, in Puerto Rico, are marking National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by inviting people to get creative and raise funds to help St. Jude find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
Guests at participating Chili’s restaurants can contribute to St. Jude in multiple ways:

- Make a donation to St. Jude and receive a Create-A-Pepper chili pepper coloring sheet designed for display at restaurants during the month.

- Purchase Create-A-Pepper T-shirts that can be customized with permanent marker.

- Buy a customized Create-A-Pepper key that can be cut for use at home or the office.

- Eat at Chili’s on Monday, Sept. 29, when Chili’s will donate 100 percent of profits from participating restaurant sales to St. Jude.

Visit www.createapepper.com and to make an online donation.

PASS IT AROUND!!!!

GET YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY TOGETHER!!! TRUST ME ITS SUCH AN AMAZING CAUSE :)

Just doing some 'googleing' and found you here.
I am a foster mom, whose 15 mt. old foster baby has just been diagnosed with CCSK. He is 3 days past his surgery and doing well.... but ... here we go... radiation/chemo. etc.
Unfortunately; I am only allowed to visit him; but his parents are with him all the time, which is wonderful. He has lived with us for 7 months.

Thanks for sharing your story.

I think it's so wonderful that you're doing an event for TNT. I am a TNT half-marathon alumnist and former mentor myself - (Maui '04, Anchorage '05, San Francisco '05) and I can't even BEGIN to tell you what an awesome and humbling experience it is to be at the starting line and know that every single one of those jerseys making up that sea of purple represents hope and the determination to find a cure. It will be one of the greatest expereinces your soul will ever know.

Dear Ben, Erica, Steve and Maggie- We are so very happy to hear that Ben is doing well. We can definately understand and relate. Our son Dustin is a very happy, healthy 3 yr. old boy. Last year (1 month before his 2nd birthday) he was diagnosed with CCKS. He had the same protocol as Ben. It was definately a "tough" 6 months, but our little guy was a champ, just like Ben. His last chemo was mid March, and he just got his port out in October (1 month before his 3 yr.old birthday) That was definately the BEST birthday present anyone can ask for! We go to get our check up scans and tests every 3 months, and know that everything is going to be great. We always felt that strength, optimism and support were the key factor to getting by. Dustin is our little hero! We pray for all of you and only wish you the best of luck! A wonderful side note is, that there was a recent story in the Long Island, New York newspaper: it was about a 12 yr.old boy who loved soccer and at the time wasnt allowed to play in junior highschool because he only had one kidney. TEN years ago, he was diagnosed with CCSK. The boy is 12 now, and doing wonderful, and is a healthy, happy child! I thought that was such an uplifting story because the treatment only advanced, and the prognosis is much better than 10 years ago!! (and yes, he just played in his first game 2 weeks ago) If you want to talk with me, please feel free to email me....we are thinking of you all!

I had originally planned to visit as many caringbridge sites as possible, and leave some encouraging words, prior to my daughters passing. Unfortunately her passing came sooner than we had expected, but longer than any of her doctors expected.

Another angel takes flight.

My daughter Pam had a brain tumor and was fighting the fight since November 4th, 2002, after the birth of her daughter (Casey Morgan). My youngest daughter, Karen, set up a caringbridge website for Pam. Karen's friends mother shared a prayer with us, that I would like to share with you and Ben. It's called DON'T QUIT:
Don't Quit -
When things go wrong, as they sometimes will, When the road you're trudging seems all uphill, When the funds are low and the debts are high, and you want to smile, but you have to sigh, When care is pressing you down a bit - Rest if you must, but do not quit. Life is queer with its twists and turns, As every one of us sometimes learns, And many a fellow turns about, When he might have won had he stuck it out. Don't give up though the pace seems slow - You may succeed with another blow. Often the goal is nearer than it seems to a faint and faltering man; Often the struggler has given up when he might have captured the victor's cup. And he learned too late when the night came down, How close he was to the golden crown. Success is failure turned inside out - The silver tint of the clouds of doubt, And you never can tell how close you are, It may be near when it seems afar, So stick to the fight when you're hardest hit, It's when things seem worst that you mustn’t quit.(Just call on Jesus).

I would also like to share a saying that was on the card my wife Diane picked out, and we bought for Pam:

If you were a star
That wasn’t expected back
In the universe
For a thousand years,
I’d wait.

If you were the sky
And everyone went inside
When you got sad
And started to rain,
I’d stay.

And if you were a peach
And the world decided to get rid of all peaches,
I’d pick you up,
Put you in my pocket…

AND KEEP YOU.

Prayers have scientifically been proven to work.

REMEMBER NEVER GIVE UP THE FIGHT. You are in our prayers. GOD bless you all.

Hey Ben and family,

Glad to hear the de-portation went well, Patrick doesn't like the IV's either but get's over them very quickly after all the sticking is done. He just had shot's too, for his four year old check-up. He didn't like them either but got over them very quickly. He did tell his little cousin that "Them shot's didn't hurt a little bit, THEY HURT ALOT!!" Hey we all know they don't feel good, but sometimes we have to have them.
Glad to hear that everything so far is good, will check back soon for results of the scan on the 11th.
Patrick just had ultrasound of abdomin and chest and everything there is good. He doesn't have to go back to HEM/ONC doctor until February 2004. The last week of this month will be 2 years post-therapy.
Will check back soon,
Love to all of you,

Ben, you look great! All that hair. Sophia can't wait until she has hair. She touches her fuzzy head all the time and puts stickers all over it just to add some weight to it. We are so glad that you're doing well. Sophia had to have her broviac line removed because of a bacteria infection. It was scary. She now has a picc line in her arm and that's where she's going to get the rest of her chemo treatments. She's feeling much better. Only 3 more chemo rounds left. We can't wait! Hope you're having a wonderful summer! :)

Hello to everyone of you. I just found out about Bens website.can't tell you how this has touched my heart. I keep you all in my thoughts and in my prayers. I'm so glad you had a wonderful well deserved vacation. I've kept up with Ben thru Deanah and you've all been in my prayers daily. Cancer is such a horrible and mean diease. Hey Maggie & Ben,
My name is Kimberli and my son Patrick was diagnosed with Clear Cell Sarcoma of the Kidney, Stage II in February 2001. We have just passed our 2 year mark and everything so far is clear, Patrick just had a MRI and CAT SCAN in Janurary.
I know what you mean about the port coming out, Patrick had his out in August 2002 and he now has to have a IV, he cries just a little bit until they get it in but otherwise does great, he don't and never has minded the finger pricks, I guess with everything these children go through a finger prick is nothing.
I wish you good health and luck. Visit Patrick's web page caringbridge.com/sc/patrickmichaelsmith.
Will write again soon.

Hey, whats up Ben? Sounds like you're doing great....except for that part about your mom saying you ate 20 fish sticks! If you keep eating that many you are going to start growing fins and gills.
I don't think I am going to be able to make it to Amarillo for the holidays so your in charge of keeping your mom, Jenny, and Oui-Oui in line. Tell everyone I said "hi" and have a great Christmas!!!

I am a teacher at Tascosa High School and your Mom keeps my computer lab going for all of the Rebels that spend time in my classroom. I am so glad you have your own website so that I can check your progress. Sounds like you are a brave and sweet boy. Also, I liked the photos of you and Erica.

Hi Benosaurus !
A tyrannosaurus rex was a mighty fierce dinosaur that could lick about anything in his path. That's why I'd like to call you Benosaurus, if that's okay with you. You're licking this cancer in a mighty fierce way and I love to hear the stories about you being so big and brave. Keep up the good work and we're looking forward to the next installation of " As Benosaurus Wins "
Love, Mrs. White
P.S. Even though I haven't met you , I can sign love because I'm a Grandma and Grandmas have LOOOOOOOOOOOOOTS of love to give out. @:-)) Love, Mrs. White

Ben.
I know that your Mom and Dad are seeing you grow up much too quickly, but they are able to see through you a reflection of themselves & the great "stuff" (character) that you are made of. What a joy for them to know your tremendous courage.
May God Bless you and give you strength all through your life. Praise his name, as each day is a gift to us for our service to others.
a friend...........Gary

Ben,
I know that you are growing up much faster than your Mom and Dad would like, but they are seeing your remarkable courage as a reflection of themselves and the great "stuff" (character) you are made of.
God Bless you and grant you direction throughout your life. Remember to give thanks for each day. Pray for us as we have for you.
