Your fingerprints are on my heart.
Fingerprints that teach me about caring.
Fingerprints that teach me about love.
Fingerprints that teach me about courage.
Fingerprints that teach me about hope.
Fingerprints that bring me closer to my loved ones.
Fingerprints that bring me closer to myself.
In the time I cared for you my whole life changed-never to be the same again.
All this from tiny fingerprints that touch my heart.

THE WARRIOR
Gazing in the mirror,
I see a warrior’s face.
Fully clothed in armor,
No fear and no disgrace.
A tear it never offers,
A smile it always gives,
No sadness does it show,
But what a life it lives.
Needles going in
As blood is taken out,
But still no sign of pain,
No cries to make you doubt.
Each day you see this person,
And think that they’re so brave,
Each day you see us laughing,
The tears are ours to save.
So when you see our armor,
And think we’re calm and mild,
Remember this one thing,
The warrior is a child.

Wednesday, September 24, 2008 6:29 PM CDT Three years ago today Michael went to the movies and a birthday party afterward. He was supposed to be part of a fundraiser in NYC that evening. I attempted to bring him and he just didn't feel well so as we approached the tunnel I turned around and brought him home. He slept for a bit and woke up with a fever. We headed back to the tunnel into the city to urgent care not knowing there wouldn't be a return trip home for our sweet little boy.
I can't help but to write my feelings out today. I have relived the ride, the urgent care admit, the moaning and gasping for air . It was a side of Michael I had never seen before. The days ahead were unknown to us. Things worsened- Michael's smile and attitude changed. I do remember him feeling a little bit better on the nights that the Yankees were in the Championship. This week as the stadium closed and the last game was played another chapter has closed for our family. As Derek Jeter said in his speech "I hope that the memories that were made in this stadium and passed down will continue over to the new stadium" I don't know how easy that will be for us. The House that Ruth Built gave us more memories than anyone can ever imagine. It's hard to beleive sometimes that Michael met so many of the players past and present. He laughed with them, ate with them, stretched with them and even flew on their private jet.
I am so grateful that he had the opportunity to do all of that. But, I would trade it all in a heartbeat to have him back with us. So as the days lie ahead and we approach October 21st, think of Michael and all of the good things he enjoyed in life. Yes, it was definitely too short of a time spent here but so many good things came about for him that made him happy. I know he's smiling down on us :)
