Ashley Marie Byer

Welcome to Ashley's web page. It has been provided to keep our friends and family updated on the progress of our special little angel.
Ashley was born on August 23, 2000. Ashley was diagnosed on February 12, 2004 with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). She was 3 years old. She had 6 months of intense chemo and is now in her long term maintenance. Although we have had our ups and downs, she is doing very well. Thank you for your support and prayers.

In May 2005 Make a Wish sent Ashley to Disney to meet the Disney Princesses. She mostly wanted to meet Princess Jasmine.

On February 27, 2006 Ashley finished her treatment. She is in remission and doing great.

The Littlest Soldiers

The medals on our chests
Are port-a-caths for meds
Helmets won't stay on
'cause no hair is on our heads.
Our weapons of destruction
We take every day
We fight the battle within us
While we struggle on to play.
We fight with honor and courage
No marine could do as well
We are only little children
Living in this hell.
So bring on the medals
The Purple Hearts of Wars
The Gold Cross, The Silver Star
To place upon our scars.
For We are the Children of Cancer
No one has fought so hard
But every day we struggle on
Our life is our reward.

Special Child
by Sharon Harris

You weren't like other children,
And God was well aware,
You'd need a caring family,
With love enough to share.
And so He sent you to us,
And much to our surprise,
You haven't been a challenge,
But a blessing in disguise.
Your winning smiles and laughter,
The pleasures you impart,
Far outweigh your special needs,
And melt the coldest heart.
We're proud that we've been chosen,
To help you learn and grow,
The job that you have brought us,
Is more than you can know.
A precious gift from Heaven,
A treasure from above,
A child who's taught us many things,
But most of all- "Real Love

Hello again,

Wow, is it really already May. I can't believe how fast time is going. The girls are doing really well. Ashley has been doing really well in school. They are going on a field trip to Storybook Forest. She is really excited about that. She also signed up for cheerleading. She will start practices in the summer. She also said that she wants to try soccer. She has lost her 2 bottom teeth already and now her top 2 are loose. Other than that she has just been enjoying the nice wearher. She can't wait to put the pool back up. Ashley has been feeling really good too. She was complaining that her throat hurt, i called the dr and they said that if she didnt have a fever that she probably doesnt have strep. But we tested for it anyway just to make sure. Well, as it turns out she does have strep. But she has been taking some medication and is feeling better. She had her appointment in March at Children's. Dr. Ritchey said that she looks really good. All her blood counts were normal. We go back at the end of june.

Isabelle has been doing really good too. We are still working on the potty training but she is doing pretty good. She is loving playing outside too. I have been babysitting for a friend and Isabelle just loves him. He is 2 months old and Isabelle just loves to help with him. I will put a picture of the girls with him in the photo album.

Our Easter was pretty good. The girls loved the stuff that they got from the Easter bunny. We also tried to get Isabelle to give her binkies to the Easter bunny. I told her that he would leave her a special present. She thought that he would bring her new binkies. But we tried it anyway, and she refused to give them up. So we are still working on that.

Well, not too much has been going on here. We are just finally enjoying the nice weather. I will put up some new pictures. Thank you all for continuing to check in. We really appreciate everything.

Thanks again,
Kelly
