CREATE A PEPPER AT CHILI'S TO FIGHT CHILDHOOD CANCER!!!!

St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and Chili’s Grill & Bar® announced the kick-off of their fifth annual Create-A-Pepper to Fight Childhood Cancer campaign. Now through September 30, Chili’s restaurants around the country and, for the first time, in Puerto Rico, are marking National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month by inviting people to get creative and raise funds to help St. Jude find cures and save children with cancer and other catastrophic childhood diseases.
Guests at participating Chili’s restaurants can contribute to St. Jude in multiple ways:

- Make a donation to St. Jude and receive a Create-A-Pepper chili pepper coloring sheet designed for display at restaurants during the month.

- Purchase Create-A-Pepper T-shirts that can be customized with permanent marker.

- Buy a customized Create-A-Pepper key that can be cut for use at home or the office.

- Eat at Chili’s on Monday, Sept. 29, when Chili’s will donate 100 percent of profits from participating restaurant sales to St. Jude.

Visit www.createapepper.com and to make an online donation.

PASS IT AROUND!!!!

GET YOUR FRIENDS/FAMILY TOGETHER!!! TRUST ME ITS SUCH AN AMAZING CAUSE :)

Hip hop, hippety hop
My “Easter Bunny” went off to the shop,
He bought me an egg and lots of chocs
And packed them into a cardboard box.
Then he wrapped it with paper and shiny string
It really was such a pretty thing.
Disaster struck when I opened the door-
He slid across the parquet floor,
He went round the corner and past the stairs
And finished up in a pile of chairs.
Of the Easter goodies not a trace,
he’d thrown them into my fireplace!
So a warning before you go opening doors
Make sure your “Bunny” has non-slip paws!

Happy Easter

With lots of love,

Everyone at Post Pals

Thank you so much for congratulating Maria on the end of her treatment. You've traveled the chemo road with us and I'm so glad we've both come to the end. We couldn't have asked for better traveling companions Thank you again -- to you and your extended family too! -- for being such a great support to us.

Maria asked me on Thursday how her gallbladder buddy was doing :) I'm very happy to hear that Amanda's ferritin is nearly down to the level where you can stop those nightly infusions (it' SOOOO close!) Amanda will be med-free one of these days and it's looking like it'll be pretty soon!

Thank you so much for stopping by Maria's guestbook. We're lucky to have friends like you. :)

A PRAYER FOR CHRISTMAS

God Give Us eyes this Christmas
To see the Christmas Star.
And give us ears to hear the song
of angels from afar

And, with our eyes and ears attuned
for a message from above,
Let "Christmas Angels" speak to us
of hope and faith and love

Hope to light our pathway
When the way ahead is dark,
Hope to sing through stormy days,
with the sweetness of the lark

Faith to trust in things unseen
and know beyond all seeing
That it is in our Fathers love
We live and have our being

And love to break down barriers
of color, race and creed,
Love to see and understand
and help all those in need.

Lord, bless those we love this Christmas Day,be they near or far away Bless those good friends who mean so much and those with whom we're out of touch. We bring them all to You in prayer, and ask You to keep them in Your care.

Please know that you are thought of, in a very special way, not just this beautiful season but every day.

Just checking in, and sorry to hear about the disappointing news from the doctor. I've spent the last several months not being enamoured with our Clinic or our doctors, so maybe it's just the way things get when you aren't the sickest of the sick. Or maybe we're at the "fed up" point....

But I hope things get better soon and you can still enjoy the holiday season. Maybe 2005 is the year you get to put everything behind you.

Hey Amanda, welcome to the club of the GALLBLADDERLESS. I assume you've got the official club seal already (3 neat little incisions going across your stomach plus one in the bellybutton... of course the *silver* members often have just one big scar). Let me assure you, they will heal beautifully and life is going to be better now! No more unexpected belly pain and after a few months, you don't really need to worry about what you eat.

Lori Anne, I'm so sorry I didn't realize Amanda was having this surgery sooner. I knew she'd been having problems but didn't realize she was about to join "the club." Just goes to show you how out of the loop I've been, lol. What is it about summer that does that to people?

Anyway, Maria and I are counting down with your whole family for Amanda's end of treatment!!!!!!! You have been such great supporters of us in our chemo journey, we can't wait for you all to get to the finish line. Amanda has had such a rough time, but been so brave throughout it... You all have so much to be proud of. I am sorry to hear of the recent port issues. My fingers are crossed that it doesn't remain such an issue. Do you have any idea when she'll be able to get her port removed? Soon I hope! Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Lori-Anne. I'm sorry that Amanda has been having such a hard time recently. At least light is at the end of the tunnel-so near to the end of treatment. You advised me on Tino's low Hb level in April (ALL-Kids) and warned about iron levels- I cannot believe they let you get to this stage. Tino after four months was diagnosed and treated for parvovirus and his Hb is now perfect,it started effecting other cells too. Our Onc thought he was just sensitive to the drugs but warned that if he kept needing transfusions he would take him off treatment a year early rather than the painful injections and complications Amanda has suffered. She has been so brave and I hope that after Sept you can say goodbye to all these problems.

Hello...I got connectedintoyour site. I am a stay at home mom w/ five kids andI myself have cancer. I have been to the Netherlands three times for treatment. AS I was reading through the journal, I saw that you had a pimple on your knee and it got quite painful...and was pseudomonas. About a month ago, I had the same thing..I thought it was an ant bite ors omething...It got quite infected, like a boil. Anyway, it subsided some but then, a week ago it got infected looking and very raised. Then I scraped it on the bottom of the pool and it drained. I did see a dr. and he told me to take oral antibiotics. Ihaven't filled it yet, as it is healing nicely, but, I still wonder what it was or is. They never cultured me. I have low platelets and counts too. Anyway, I've never heard of anyone w/ this....and here you were. I am going to pray for you tonight as I go to sleep. I check on lots of caring bridge kids....know I'm thinking ofyou. Taj Brown Cedar Park tx

Hey Amanda :-)

I'm happy to hear that your surgery went well and that you're not in too much pain! That pain thing, though, you really should play it up for awhile, it could pay off HUGE in ice cream, clothes 'n' stuff. I just got out of the operating room just over an hour and a half ago myself...doing so well that I can sit down on the net and type!

It was great to see you and have you running about at the big 23rd Annual Ilgen Reunion. I was hoping to see some of your pics that you were snapping off over there. Your photography is really taking shape. The shot of your pal "Buddy" is a personal favorite. Isaac still has it in his bedroom.

Glad you and your family had a nice mini-vacation in Lancaster. I even heard through the grapevine that it was almost bicker/with bro & sis free! WOW!

Whew is right about your summer! No wonder your place always seems quiet! You are away! Would you like to see some real gall bladder stones before they zap yours? I have some that were removed over 30 years ago--from my mom. I am MUCH too young to remember, of course. LOL. I know the doctors are not allowed to let you keep yours these days, so I'll drop by. I'll call to find out when you will be "under the knife" so to speak. As a reward for Mom, we're going to schedule a date for The Notebook and dinner. I know what you mean about counting how many more times you need to do this, and how many more doses of that. I have it down to the exact days (55) and at the end of July it'll be done. You know how rare it is for us to sign your journal so you must be wondering by now, what's up! Well, we just wanted to commend you again for your angelic solo at church on Mother's Day! Both your selection ("ABOVE ALL")and presentation of it were awesome! If fact, they were beyond awesome, they were also ecstatic, and we will never be able to thank you enough for them! We are thankful that we were able to capture the moment on tape and hopeful that you are up to singing more solos sometime again for your Lord and the rest of us sometime in the future. Amanda "Smitty" Galer. I heard your solo in at Nannal & Pop-Pop's on a recording. Nice Job! You sounded almost like Michael W. Smith on his Worship project.

Lo, Thanks for the heartfelt writing. Your updates are always appreciated. It has been quite a journey for all who know Amanda. From my perspective it seems like a looooong time ago that she was diagnosed. I can't imagine the daily ups & downs that your family has had to deal with. Hi Lori Anne,
I'm glad Amandas counts are up again, they look pretty good. I was looking at her counts for the past few months and they have the same pattern as Tino's except his Hb lately has kept droppig. It looks to be the mercap not the DAPSONE(which can bring counts down as well) My onc has dropped tinos mp6 to 1/3 dosage to bring up the counts so I think you are doing the right thing bringing the dose up slightly. He says some kids are super sensitive and the slightest rise in mp will drop the counts.though I think for girls the drop is a good thing. Will continue to be with you during your journey.

Just checking out how things are going again because you are my "buddy" in the long term cough and sinus problem area.

Sorry to hear about the hospital stay, but hospital stays are so much nicer when when you're not that sick. During some of those not-so-sick stays, I used the time as sort of a weight loss camp. That is, I didn't take any money so I couldn't buy donuts or other goodies and pretty much locked myself in the room.

Just a minute ago, Christine's new specialist, the sinus person, called to say Christine would be starting a new medication regimen which includes 14 days of the dreaded prednisone! I'm sure she'll love hearing that.

Hope the warmer weather brings good fortune all the way around.

So sorry to hear about all of your recent problems. We were just starting to get over the three month cough, and Christine returned from the hospital with a cold, which we all got. She's also started having some abdominal pain which hopefully will amount to nothing. It sucks on so many levels, but hopefully we can all hang in there until we can start having some normal times.

Sorry to hear about the admit. I'm doing my best to keep Christine out of the hospital with her five week cough and all. Just as it starts to go away, it seems to start up again. Currently, she can't hear very well because of congested ears. I keep reminding myself that it could be worse, but as I'm sure you know, this sucks too.

During the last couple of weeks, we added two more cats to our menagerie, bringing the total to eight. I think that's about all I can do, but every time I see a shelter advertisement, I want to come home with another pet. The kids, of course, don't mind.

Hope your hospital stay is a short one.

It has been a long time since you've had an audience with me. You and I must stay away from each other while my court is coughing and oozing gross fluids from their noses. We are in the process of feeding all the strays in the neighborhood. You must come over and see them. I hope all but one will follow you home. Dearest Amanda, Instead of a card this time, I decided to send you this note. I know things are tough right now, but try to look at them as a time of rest in your life. A time God gave you as a gift, and said, " Amanda, I want you to read, relax, do something good for yourself - you deserve it!" Someday, when you are grow and have kids screaming and needing their diapers changed, you will say " Hey God, it isn't funny! I need a break now!" So, rest up now for the busy years ahead of you. Sping is getting closer with each day. It will be here before you know it. Look back at your Hawaii photos today and remember the fun you had. Keep smiling! Fondly, Darlene

Hi Amanda! I came to your site from Kendrie's - and I just wanted to leave you a note to say hi and let you know I'm thinking of you!

That is exciting that you're going to do the 30-Hour Famine. The youth group at my church does that - and we did it when I was growing up too. Its a neat way to raise awareness for hunger! And its a lot of fun too - we always had a lot of fun stuff planned!!

I hope you have a GREAT week! God bless and *warm hugs*

Hello Amanda. We got your site from Kendrie's. It is good that you are feeling so much better; keep it up. Good luck on the fast; it is great that you want to help a great cause. My son, Tyson, is 5 and has ALL; I have trouble getting him to fast for hospital procedures. Good luck and we are thinking of you.

HI Amanda,

I'm so glad to hear that you are doing so much better. I love the picture of you with the dolphin. I haven't been here in awhile, but Dani is also back at school for the first time since last spring. We're so happy to be getting things back to "semi-normal". Dani really wants to see Cheaper by the Dozen too, so maybe this weekend. Take care and have a great time at school.

98% better sounds good to me. I am so glad Amanda has bounced back so well from that ugly infection. It really was the best of a bad situation that it occured during maintenance rather than intense chemo and you caught it as quickly as you did. Amanda has an angel (and a very vigilant mom) looking over her shoulder. I'm so happy she was able to go back to school. Maria is enjoying going half days so much and it doesn't seem to be too much of a drain on her. Have a great week/weekend!

Thanks for letting me link your page to Kendrie's. (I still love the photo of you swimming with the dolphins!) Have a great week, and continued best wishes!

Amand,
Just checking in. We know it all can be OH so tough at times. Not to fear about the homework babe, that will be there when you are feeling better. Even if the grades slip it really does not matter as much as your health. We all know when you get better the homework will get done and the grades will will be there.
Keep on fighting the fight.

Amanda, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm so glad to see that your ANC went up and you didn't have to have a bone marrow aspiration. Maria always likes those because of the sedation, but she's not especially fond of the hip pain afterwards. I enjoyed reading about your trip to Hawaii and am so glad you had such a wonderful time. I hope all is going well with school and you're having a wonderful week.

Cool prank you played on your doctor in July. Can I borrow that idea? Our prankster personalities is all in the name -- Amanda. I really hope your counts come up this week. I sympathize with you with your stomach pains...hope that gets better too. It looks like your Make A Wish was awesome. How much fun did you have? Hey Amanda! I just found your site today, so this is my first entry into your guestbook. I have to say, the lottery story definitely made me laugh. I also wanted to tell you that your puppy is absolutely adorable. Is she/he a bichon frise? I can't have a dog since I work too much and am not home enough. I do, however, have a bird named Cupid. He's quite cute, if I say so myself. Growing up, I also had hamsters. One named Marshmellow who was quite mean and hated being picked up. My second one was named Miss Mimi and she (although "she" turned out to be a "he" - LOL) LOVED being played with and pet. I remember my mom was never too pleased to have the "rodent" in her house, although my dad loved her. Anyway, I hope you're feeling well today and have a really nice Fourth of July. Enjoy the fireworks! And have fun at camp.

Hi Amanda, Glad you are home. Our hard drive went out on our computer so we weren't able to check up on you for several weeks. Then we lost your website because we lost all of our favorite list, but Kortney had it on her school computer so now we are back in business. I am guessing your dad is on vacation AGAIN as I see him mowing grass and doing other chores that need to be done. I hear lots of noise coming from that new hot tub so you all must be enjoying it. I like the little table and umbrella you put beside it. Kortney is babysitting for the John kids today and she took them to the town pool. I decided to go along. I think I was the OLDEST person there. Oh well!! Sorry you couldn't make it to Relay For Life, but let me tell you it was a muddy mess, but lots of good things happened there. Take care and I am sure we will see you around. Libby

Hey,Princess! Didn't get a chance to tell your mom the news from Watsontown Bible school last week. We started on Father's Day--evening. They always ask the children to share prayer requests with the teachers and then we pass them on to the person in charge. At the end of the night, we all bowed our heads and prayed. The prayer requests were named and guess who was on it!? YOU! Braden and I talked on the way home about how your name appeared....he, of course, requested prayers for you. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS you are in his prayers....even at Bible school. I think he hears messages better than anyone else in the house. Braden just seems to know when someone needs help. We are sorry you did not get home in time for the Relay, but given your low counts, the weather would not have been beneficial for your condition. We hope and pray for an uneventful summer for you....in terms of the cancer rearing its ugliness. Someone wrote that you'd be on the track for the survivors next year. I pray that Kelsey is holding your hand. What a picture that would be for us all!
A "hot" queen....

HI Amanda! I bet you think I have disappeared. I really haven't, and I am so sorry. Things have been so crazy at our house. I am sorry to hear that your legs are hurting you so bad. Amanda has alot of that after her Vincristine too. I hope that this week is a great one! I will check on you later. Hey, by the way I love your new photo! SO CUTE!!!

Hey princess! It's time to do some coasting or should I say soaking! That addition looks really smart! Thought I saw some smoke signals the last couple days--must have been the queen mum taking a soak! LOL like she has time for that. Hope the tub does you some good. No skinny dipping in this neighborhood with all the teenage boys we have hanging around! You and Kelsey will remain in prayers.

Amanda, a.k.a. "THE SUGAR QUEEN"

Hope you're feeling well today! It would be neat to see you accompany your brother to teen week at church tonight. Kyle said your hot tub is HOT! Your Mom seems a bit psyched about it too, even though the humidity and moisture in the new room is a bit overwhelming. ENJOY! and hang in there. I've been thinking a lot about you on my runs. Every time I hit a hill and my body is aching I know how you must feel. Hopefully your Uncle Craig & I can finish the Baltimore Marathon without any complications in honor of you and your courageous battle with that rotten disease that was stupid enough to try and mess with you. Keep the faith and that precious smile!

Hi Amanda -

Glad to hear you enjoyed the movies today with your grandparents. They sure are very special people, and they enjoy getting together, and going places with you. I know it makes you very happy, and it brings them great joy as well.

Glad to hear you are coming along so well, and now that the weather is getting better, you will be able to enjoy the outdoors more.

Although you don't know us, we are friends of your grandparents, who we met on the computer.

You are in our thoughts,

Hi Amanda! Just wanted to let you know it does get better after this. I just started maintenance at the end of May and I'm starting to feel better now. The double delayed was the worst. I needed 3 transfusions towards the end like you. But it does get better. My hair actually looks like yours in the first picture of your photo album right now. Keep your head up high and keep smiling-you have a great one! You're doing great!

Hi,
Just thought I'd check in and wish you a quick recovery so you feel well enough for more chemo -- how ironic! Christine missed almost the whole last half of school last year. This year she is graduating from eighth grade with two weeks left of field trips, ceremonies, and other projects. I am keeping my fingers crossed that we can avoid ending eighth grade in the hospital or confined to the house.

Amanda, if you're ever bored or into email, you might want to drop Christine a note. She's into animals, animals, and more animals, and even virtual animals on the internet. She likes Sailor Moon, Sponge Bob, the Game Show Network, reading books, and painting. Her email is butterflybabe515@hotmail.com. Did I mention she likes butterflies? She's a pretty quiet person, but likes exchanging emails.

Oh yuck, zero ANC. We are there too. I will be thinking of Amanda and hoping she doesn't get an infection. We are also on the "break week" in the middle of DI, but I don't think Maria will be starting the second half on Monday either. Hi Amanda, I am so glad to hear things are continuing to go well for you. You know Maria has a really hard time sleeping while she is on steroids too. They are such a pain aren't they? Do you get weird food cravings with them? Last week Maria decided she needed to eat pizza with jalapeno peppers on it. I think she at about 4 slices without stopping. I can't handle 3 bites without a lot of water!! Have a great time at camp this summer. You are going to have such a wonderful time.. you will be strong and healthy by then, and not having to go to the hospital all the time for chemo!

Hey Amanda, can you believe you are finished with another phase of chemo?!!!! I am so proud of you! I hope you sail through this final delayed intensification. Maria will probably start hers (DI #1) on the 21st so we will be just a few days behind you. I hope as you are reading this you are sipping on a can of boost or eating a snack. Way to go (or is it weigh to go?) on the 4 lbs! I know how exciting that can be. Your hair looks red to me - I know you can't always tell from pictures tho. But I know it will be beautiful no matter what color it is. I hope things continue to go well for you. Keep smiling that gorgeous smile of yours.

Hi Amanda! I am so impressed that you were able to take out that nasty tube yourself - way to go girlfriend! I too, will give you many pounds to add to your body! Lent begins today and I have to get rid of my weight gained during chemo - different chemo, different results - ugh!!! So glad to hear the good news and your continued spunk and sledding. You are my hero! So many times when I faced treatments of some type, I would think - If Amanda can do this, so can I!!!! Keep up the great work and wonderful smile. XOXO

Alrighty Amanda, lets hang onto those pounds! We are doing the "no NG tube chant" for you. Do you think we could figure out some way to get the doctors to take 10lbs from me and give them to you? :) I hope you are feeling good this week. Maria says interim maintenance is much better than the other phases of treatment.

Hey, LOL! Trying to get caught up on your progress since I accidentally deleted your web site info! Did you ever see Rudolf? Remember what Mrs. Claus says to Santa when she's trying to get him ready for Christmas? "Eat, Papa, eat!!" Just 2 pounds to avoid the dreaded tube! We'll keep you in our prayers.

Hi Amanda -

Glad to hear you are doing so well. That is just great!

We used to live in Pennsylvania, not far from you, and this year we moved to Florida. I know you enjoy the snow, it is alot of fun at your age, but we are too old to play in the snow, or shovel it. But I remember at your age, I loved it too.

We live in Florida, and I keep in contact with your grandparents, they are very special people, and we have become good friends.

Well take care, you are in our thoughts.

Fondly, Bev and Mel

Hi, Amanda! This is coming from Minnesota! Believe it or not, you have had much more snow this winter than we have. I am an old friend of your Grandma Gayler. I have known her over 20 years. You are lucky to have such wonderful grand-parents! It is good to see you doing so well--keep up the good work. OH--I have a grand son the same age as you and he has red hair too! Nancy

I guess you now qualify for "Queen Mum" being all bent over. Whoever heard of a princess hunched over like a little old lady? I imagine you are standing tall this week. I was hoping for more snow on Thursday, but it looks like the storm will miss us. The little bit of snow on Monday wiped out the field trip my class was supposed to take. Never fear, we teachers like to get out of the classroom, too. We got the trip rescheduled. We're going to tap a maple sugar tree. Perhaps you would enjoy a maple milkshake. Mmmm mmmm good...oh, that's Campbell's soup. LOL Keep up your spirits and your mom's too. Thanks for being a source of strength to us all.

Amanda, I'm so glad to hear your neuropsych testing went well. Maria will be having that done soon also but, like you, I don't think there will be any problems. :) I hope you had a wonderful Valentine's Day and that your blood counts are high enough to start interim maintenance II soon.
