Demetra's Web Page

On January 19, 1996 doctor’s removed 80% of Demetra’s small intestines in an emergency surgery which saved her life. Since that day Demetra has depended on enteral feeds & TPN for the nutrition she needs to survive. In those nine years Demetra has faced 7 surgeries, countless hospital stays and a long list of other symptoms common to her illness. Nevertheless, despite it all, she has blossomed into a beautiful young courageous woman. We ask family and friends to help us pray for the strength she needs to overcome this illness.

Wonder
by Natalie Merchant
album: Tigerlily (1995),
Live in Concert (1999)
Doctors have come from distant cities just to see me;
Stand over my bed, disbelieving what they're seeing.
They say I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation,
And as far as they see they can offer no explanation.

Newspapers ask intimate questions, want confessions;
They reach into my head to steal the glory of my story.
They say I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation,
And as far as they see they can offer no explanation.

Ooo, I believe: Fate smiled at Destiny,
Laughed as she came to my cradle:
"Know this child will be able,"
Laughed as my body she lifted,
"Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience, and with faith.
She'll make her way; she’ll make her way."

People see me; I'm a challenge to your balance;
I'm over your heads; how I confound you and astound you to know
I must be one of the wonders of God's own creation;
And as far as you see you can offer me no explanation.

Ooo, I believe: Fate smiled at Destiny,
Laughed as she came to my cradle:
"Know this child will be able,"
Laughed as she came to my mother,
“Know this child will not suffer,”
Laughed as my body she lifted,
"Know this child will be gifted
With love, with patience, and with faith.
She'll make her way; she’ll make her way."

“She’ll make her way.”

Journal

Hey everyone it's Demetra! I just wanted to give everyone a quick update and let you all know I am home. Bob and I drove home yesterday and it only took us 6 1/2 hours! When I got home my mommy had dinner ready for me but I still can't eat a lot of things and I can't eat too much. Maria came to see me for a little bit and so did Boz. It felt great to sleep in my own bed finally! I'm still sore, having a hard time getting around, and have a low energy level but that's to be exspected. I'll keep updating the page every other day or weekly depending on what I do or how i'm doing so keep checking in. Thanks everybody for your thoughts and prayers :-)
