Collin was diagnosed with AML (M4) at the age of 7 months in July of 1999. At that time he went through six months of chemotherapy and remained in remission until August, 2002, when he relapsed in a most unusual way, with a chloroma (encapsulated tumor of leukemia cells) in his brain. He underwent surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, MN, to have the lime-sized tumor removed. On November 19, 2002, he received a bone marrow transplant using umbilical cord blood at Fairview University Hospital in Minneapolis, MN. He is doing well, so far the transplant has been successful and he remains in remission. It has been a long time since an update and thankfully nothing has changed with Collin's health - it is still great! He finished up third grade, played baseball on the White Sox team this spring and has started tae kwan do, which he loves. He had to pick a daily goal for his tae kwon do program and he chose to "jog" (turns into a "run" most of the time!)around the block for his which he has been faithfully doing. He earned his white belt and several stripes for his belt by meeting certain goals - he should be a yellow belt by the middle of August. Next weekend he and I will go to Boy Scout camp with his troop, something both of us are really looking forward to. He will also be playing flag football this fall so that will be something new. I've had people ask if Collin would be allowed to play contact sports because they knew of other kids who had cancer that could not so I asked Dr. Elliott at Collin's checkup. His reply was "Don't hold him back from anything!" so that is exactly what we will do! He and Keenan spend alot of time with their friends Tate & Dane - they all have Pokemon cards in binders which they discuss and trade. We are close to the pool so they swim frequently. It is proving to be a relaxing, low-key summer - for which we are very thankful!

Collin's biggest excitement this summer will be the honor of serving as ringbearer in the wedding of his buddy Kris next month. These two have a special bond that can only be shared by individuals who have experienced the same trial in life. We are extremely proud of Kris and all that he has accomplished and thankful for his being such a positive role model for all our boys, especially Collin. He will marry a very special young lady named Sarah and we are all very much looking forward to this very happy occassion!
