Lucas

A collage of Lucas lovingly created by the creative Angel Stacy

To be a star,
you must shine your own light,
follow your own path,
and don't worry about the darkness,
for that is when stars shine brightest!

~author unknown~

Welcome to Lucas' Web Page. Lucas, our third child, was diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (A.L.L.)on January 20th, 2004. As his name implies, Lucas is our bright light. He is a child who always keeps his face to the sunshine so that he doesn't have to see the shadows behind him. Please share in his journey from beginning to end; follow his daily adventures through his already wise eyes.

Feel free to leave a message of support; they are always appreciated.

September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month

During this month alone, about 125 children in Canada will be diagnosed with cancer.

Although seven out of the 10 of these children will survive, childhood cancer remains the single biggest cause of death (after accidents) in children over the age of one.

And for those children who survive, many will live with ongoing health related issues and discrimination.

Your support will someday make the difference. We will *Reach the Day* that childhood cancer is cured. *We Will Win.*

Here are some references to help you understand what the "normal" is for healthy children.
We speak of Lucas's blood test so often, we thought you might appreciate these.
WBC- white blood count 5.5-14.5
RBC- red blood count 3.9-5.3
Hemoglobin (found in red blood carries oxygen) 115-135
Platelet- Blood clotting 150-450
ANC (neutrophils)-immune system 1.260-8.680

Please leave a message for Lucas, he makes us check each day

Turn up the volume for our newest music choice. Lucas loves this one

We've had so many people offer to send Lucas police and firefighter patches for his collection. If you are still willing, please email us directly with Patches for Lucas clearly marked in the subject line, and we'll send off our mailing address.
