Simone, I'm on a committee with your father and he said you were five years free of cancer. What wonderful news. And I saw your photo and you are 21 and all grown up and very beautiful. I have a son who is 23 and a daughter who is 27. You father is a fine man and he is justly proud of you. I am so glad to hear your good news.

Hi Simone!!! I am training with TNT on your behalf for my first triathlon... I just read your website and am truly inspired more than words can say. The challenge of my training is nothing compared to the experiences you have gone through and that is what will keep me going on my hardest days. I am so glad to hear that you are feeling good right now and with all of our combined efforts, thoughts, and prayers I hope it continues that way. I look forward to meeting you, hopefully at the honoree dinner!! Stay strong and keep smiling!!

Aloha Simone: I have not received any emails or anything from you. I guess your mother doesn't want you to contact me. I am so sorry that your Mother feels she must keep you away from the other half of your family. Your Great-Grandmother left this earth from Leukemia and she came to me in a dream and said "I will never leave Simone's side." Your Grandfather and Step-Grandfather and I, your Grandmother, all are praying for you and seeing you regaining your health. Family is forever, Simone, and tell your Mother forgiveness for whatever grudge she is carrying heals the soul. Love from a distance, Grandmother Meg.

Hello Simone, I'm Jeremy's uncle Leonard and we've never met due to a rift in the family. Jeremy emailed this link to me so I am getting to know you for the first time. I personally know of one leukemia survivor and her story and I have heard of another survivor and his story from a doctor. I wish you a speedy recovery if that is possible.

Dearest little Simone: I am your grandmother. I had no idea that you were sick and only discovered it because I was thinking of your mother and all of the wonderful Christmas's we had as a family when your mother was a little girl. I am very sad that I never got to know you and only saw you once when you were three years old. You don't know me but I live in Hawaii in a lovely condominium across from the ocean. You have a step-grandfather and your real grandfather is also here as he and I have remained close friends throughout our lives. Please IM me or email me as I would so like to get to know you. All of my prayers will be with you as you fight to regain your health. Love from grandmother FlackDonovan

Hi Simone from London,
It's a while since we wrote to you but we hear about what 's happening from your Dad and enjoy reading about your progress -You have an amazing character to continue with so many things- even the driving- whilst you are having the chemo; and we love your sense of humour. I'm afraid we live too far away to come to your Sweet Sixteen, ( what is it, we don't have it in England) but we are looking forward to see you when you come with your parents and will show you London which looks particularly beautiful at the moment and has a lovely cafe atmosphere.

Have a good summer, you must be breaking up from school for the holidays soon,

love from all the Lamberts

Simone - I am one of the mentors for your TNT team. I was out of town when we had our potluck earlier in the season, so I did not get a chance to meet you. But i am glad to hear that you will be at the party tonight and i am looking forward to meeting you. I have gone to the website a couple times and it is beautiful.

I'm happy to hear that you are driving now and it seems to be going well. That's a big deal. Plus, you deserve it after all those years of riding in the backseat! That was harsh - we're going to have to talk to your mom about that...

I was thinking about you at Wildflower, and I know many others on the team were too. It helped me get through some tough hills, and hopefully knowing that we're out there helps you in some small way too. I actually had a pretty good race - I improved on my time from last year by quite a bit - but that wasn't that hard since it was 102 degrees last year!

Our "season" is over now but I know that yours will continue. Many of us will keep training and go on to other events and other TNT seasons, and we'll keep you in our thoughts and prayers.

See you at the party.
Bill

Hi Simone,
As I go through the e-mails now that I have more time after finishing the Wildflower course, I'd just like to convey that the weekend was incredible, the people from TNT were out there in force, and all the work everyone put in over the last 3 months from coaches to mentors, captains, honorees, friends, spouses, girlfriends/boyfriends, all seemed to pay off. I know I'll be back again to raise funds for TNT, race Wildflower next year, and improve on both my time and my funds raised. Shortly after starting the training with TNT in February, both my parents were diagnosed with differing forms of cancer - my dad with esophageal cancer, my mom with breast cancer. Although my dad's is much more advanced, and surgery is not an option now, they are both progressing well. My dad just had his first 6 weeks of chemo, and had a PET scan this week, which showed progress in reducing and stopping the spread of the tumor. The chemo has not had the effect the doctors were hoping for, but it's happening. He's now in for 6 more weeks of 5 days a week of radiation. Unfortunately, it looks like that will cancel his chance of going to the fishing trip some of us at work were planning next Friday - yes, I'm taking off work for this, but don't tell anyone, ok? And everyone seems to agree he looks very cool with his head shaved. My mom had surgery to remove the affected area, and will probably have some radiation in the near term, plus some inhibitors indefinitely, but the outlook is reasonably bright. Both are, I have to admit heartily, in very good spirits, which I'll say counts much towards their fighting and overcoming the cancer. So, let's just say that the motivation towards TNT, what it stands for, is there for me and will continue to be that way in the future. I'm looking forward to hearing more of your progress over the next few months. Take care.

Simone,
Well, Wildflower weekend was an absolute blast! The weather was perfect, the race went well. It was even better on Sunday cheering in my teammates. I thought of you often, and you inspired me when going up the steepest hill, when I had to leave my body behind and just push. I know what you've been through, and it made my race look like a walk in the park!
Thank you again for being our team honoree. It meant a lot to me, and inspired the team to raise >$100,000 for the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society!
I look forward to your news updates. Let me know when you'll be at CHO and I'll show you some of the race highlights!

I am so impressed by the permit. At 49 and 43 respectively, neither Dan nor I have one. We go everywhere by foot, bus, taxi, train and plane. And have an extensive range of suitcases on four wheels. But I think you may be showing me the way. It is quite hard to have a mid-life crisis without contemplating buying a convertible.

Hi Simone! How are you doing? I hope you're enjoying the beautiful sunshine. How long will you be in New York? What a fun city to visit. I'm sure you have a long list of what you want to do. I have a brother who lives there, and I remember visiting him when I was 15 for a tour of the city. I have a day off from work today, as do the students for International Women's Day. Isn't that a great day to celebrate! I'm sure you'd agree. Tomorrow is the team's first open water swim. I think a lot of people are nervous. Then in just one week we go to our training weekend at wildflower so everyone can see the course. I'll call you and your mom this weekend. I thought maybe we could get together next week to make a poster or bake cookies that I could bring to the weekend to help inspire and cheer on the participants. I know that you are really busy, so it's just an idea. Have a great day!
Take Care, Mary (team in training!) <mmachens@sbcglobal.net>

Dear simone,
Everytime I see you at school and say hi, I am amazed that you are so strong and able to make it through. Especially those crowded hallways ya know! I am so proud of you, plus I look up to your courage. You looked so cute in the outfit with the "smile"( i think it said) shirt and skirt, plus your hair is longer, wavy and perfect! It also make me smile when you wore the "Thing 1" sweat shirt, it was really cute! I read your updates as much as possible. Hope to see you at school again! Love Tesha

Hi Simone,
Jeremy does a lot of our legal work, or should I say he does his best to keep us out of trouble with our contracts! He gave me this web address and I read through your journal, and was very moved by it.. I told my family (including two teenagers)about it and it really helps put things in perspective for us. We will pray for your full recovery. Keep hanging in there, kid!!!

Hi Simone,

My name is Jim Silver, I'm 47 and an ALL survivor. I understand what you've been going through. I live in San Ramon, and was treated at John Muir hospital from Sept 86 to Nov 89, starting when I was 29 years old. Hang in there. I'd be happy to swap emails or talk with you anytime. We're lucky to have so many people that care about our disease and helping find a cure and better treatments.

Big hugs!

Jim

Hi simone,I have never met you before my name is Laila and I am doing a triathlon in may for team in training and you are one of my groups honorees. I was looking through your website and you seem to have an amazing life. My best friend Katie Lieberman was diagnosed with APL this past december and has been at childrens hospital in oakland. Looking at your pictures i think she was in the same room as you. Well having you be our groups honoree is amazing and I am happy to be training and raising money for you. Im sure you have stayed strong through your diagnoses and admire the strength that it takes...

dear simone, i met you when you were just a baby living in an apartment in the richmond district in san francisco- remember me??!! i recieved a fax from your dad getting back in touch since our wild days in high school. i am so sorry to hear about your illness. i, too, unfortunately, have had health problems so i understand how much it sucks. it felt very surreal to me and i was convinced that i would wake up from my nightmare to return to my real world. ah well. that was then. well, i wish you a speedy recovery. i will email/talk to your dad and reconnect with him. i like the beard look!

It seems to me that this is an anniversary to note and actually celebrate. Without a diagnosis a year ago by a superb hospital and amazing health care, the superb and amazing Simone you are today and have proved yourself to be for 365 days might not be here. And it has been a privilege and an honour to be on the email list this year -to revel, vicariously, in the love and courage you and your family have shown. Good for you !!
