Jordan's Page

Emma, Ben and Me playing in the backyard on Easter

Journal

Sunday, July 13, 2008 2:05 PM CDT

Hello everyone! Sorry it's been so long again. I am really bad about updating when life is pretty normal. Jordan is doing just fine. Her back is pretty much all healed and she's back to business as usual. She and Ben both just started the new school year last Monday. She's in third grade this year and Ben's in first grade now. I'm actually finding it easier to keep up with stuff around the house now that they are both in school for the full day.

We are still waiting for the insurance approval for Jordan's hearing aids. I should know their answer this week, so we can move forward with getting them ordered. I really hope she does well with them. My big challenge right now is making sure she gets the color she really wants, since she'll be stuck with them for a long time. She is saying she wants red, which really surprises us, since her favorite color has always been purple. I keep asking her if she's sure and she's sticking with it, so it looks like she will have red hearing aids! She's very excited about getting them, because she knows other kids in her class who wear them, too. I just hope they help with her speech and language skills.

Ben is reading like crazy now. It all comes pretty easy to him, which is good but also hard to watch, since Jordan has such a hard time. So far she doesn't seem to mind that he's younger and reading better. I just dread when the time comes that she realizes her younger brother is passing her by. I never want her to feel cheated by life, even though sometimes that's how I feel for her.

Ben is also really into video games now. The Wii game Ben 10: Protector if Earth is his current favorite. He has already beaten the game, but he likes to go back through the levels again. He has also beaten Super Mario Galaxy, although he didn't totally complete each galaxy. He is still working on going back and getting all of the stars. He is getting really tall lately, and staying super skinny. He's already 47 inches tall and only weighs 45lbs.

The kids have also started swimming lessons again. They really love the water. Ben is swimming underwater more and really getting good at holding his breath. Jordan does pretty well too, but gets a little more nervous than Ben about trying new things. I have been taking Emma in the water, too and she really loves it. She will kick her feet when I ask her to, but she doesn't like it when I try to get her to float on her back.

Speaking of Emma, she is growing like a weed. She is 19 months old now and running all over the place. She is saying new words every day and according to the pediatrician is ahead of the curve in her language skills, since she's putting multiple words together. Of course, her most commonly used words are Mommy, No, and Hey!! :) She also loves to say Hi to everyone wherever we go and as she does she waves this little beauty queen wave, and when she says goodbye she likes to blow kisses. She is growing pretty similar to the way Ben did, she's now in the 90th percentile for height and the 25-50th for weight. She's getting to be tall and thin. She's 33 1/2 inches tall and 23 lbs. She's into the 24mos to 2T shirts and dresses, but still the 18mo shorts. It's lucky they make toddler pants with adjustable waistbands now, she's going to need them this fall/winter.

Jordan's next endocrinology appointment will be Thursday. Since starting the growth hormone shots in December '05 she has grown just about a foot! She's actually a bit above average height for her age! A big change from the 10th percentile that she had dropped to before starting the GH.

Well, there's not really anything else to report for now. I'll keep you all posted on the hearing aids.

Thanks for checking in, we really appreciate all of the prayers and good wishes, we know that you all have played a huge part in Jordan's recovery and continued good health.

Love,

Angela
